...........................................
The grand court of Punjab was alive with festivity.
Baisakhi celebration filled with sound of different music instruments.
Courtiers and nobles sat in an arc, their eyes fixed on the center of the hall where... a young dancer was preparing to perform.
Shubman gill.. the crown prince of Punjab, leaned against his seat.
He had little interest in the entertainment usually arranged in the court. .. viewing it as a mere distraction from his royal duties.
But tonight, something felt different....
The young dancer stepped forward the ghunghroo on his feet jingling softly with each movement.
Clad in a flowing white kurta with a crimson dupatta draped over his waist.
As the tabla began its rhythm, the dancer's feet finds it's own perfect rhythm... each step echoing with the sound of his ghunghroo.
Its seems like Shubman's eyes were fixed on the young boy.
He couldn't look away....not at all
The dancer moved with a grace.
his expressions shifting seamlessly between joy... sorrow.. and longing...
Shubman watched from his seat, his sharp jawline clenched as he tried to focus on the performance.
As a whole, but his eyes betrayed him....
They kept returning to the young man with almond-shaped eyes and a mischievous smile.
Shubman *whispered to himself*
"Yeh... yeh kaun hai? Kyun lagta.. hai jaise yeh poori mehfil iske aas paas ghoom rahi hai?"
The performance ended.... Ishan bowed gracefully and left with the other courtesans.
But for Shubman, the sound of his ghunghroo stayed, echoing long after the music had stopped.
That night, the palace was silent, but Shubman's mind was anything but.
Lying in his grand chamber
he stared at the ceiling.
Shubman : uski ghunghroo ki awaz.. Abhi bhi mujhe sunai de rhi hai.. Uski woh ada jaise ki sara sansar uske ankho meh basta ho.. Aur uski woh muskuraahat...
He sat up abruptly, his chest tight. Sleep was a distant thought.
Unable to resist the pull of his restless heart...
Shubman : uska Naam kya hai..? Maine uske pahli baar dekha hai...
He said to himself and look at the wild opened window.. Outside all was still.. Leaves were moving in rhyme.
Shubman get out of his bed walk towards window.. The cold air hits his face.
He walk towards garden...
As Shubman wandered aimlessly, the faint sound of ghunghroo reached his ears again.
His heart skipped a beat.
"Kya yeh.. wahi awaaz hai? Ya mera mann ka khel?"
"sayd mujhe wapas jana chahiye.."
As he turn to move he heard that sound again... And this time he was sure.
He followed the sound.
The melody of the anklets grew louder as he approached the ancient neem tree in the farthest corner of the garden.
There, bathed in moonlight, was the dancer.
Ishan... He moved like a dream, his ghunghroo jingling softy with every step.
His arms swayed gracefully.
His movements was uninhibited.
Shubman hid behind a piller, watching silently.
Ishan : kya raatein hamesha itni sukoon bhari hoti hain?
Shubman couldn't help but smile at the innocence in his voice.
Gathering his courage, he stepped forward.
Shubman : Toh tum raatein aise hi guzaarte ho?
Ishan spun around, startled, his ghunghroos jingling sharply.
Ishan: Aur Rajkumar raaton ko yu hi dusron ko daraate hain?
*he asked playfully*
Shubman : Mera iraada darane ka nahi tha...Bas yeh jaana tha ki itni raat ko kaun nach raha hai
Ishan : Rajkumar ko hum jaise chhoti zindagi wale logon ki aadatein kyun samajhni hain?
Shubman : Shaayad isliye kyunki woh 'chhoti zindagi' wale log mere nind chheen rahe hain
*Ishan look at him with curiosity*
Ishan: nind chheen liye? Toh unhe wapas le lo, Rajkumar.
Shubman : Tum wapas karne doge?
The air between them grew still, heavy with unspoken words.
Ishan tilted his head, the mischief returning to his eyes.
Ishan: nind kabhi wapas diye jaate hain? Woh toh bas aur sapne ban jaate hain.
Shubman : Nahi, main... bas puch raha tha. Tum... kaun ho?"
Ishan : Ek aam insaan, jo sirf niritya karna jaanta hai. Aap ko kya farq padta hai?
Shubman: (softly, almost to himself)
Farq padta hai...
Ishan:
Raat kaafi ho chuki hai, rajkumar. Aapko wapas mahal mein jaana chahiye. Kahi raat ki sardi lag na jaaye.
Shubman: (still staring, his voice quiet) Main tumhara naam bhi nahi jaanta.
Ishan: (grinning as he stepped back) Naam toh zarurat padne par pata chal hi jaayega. Abhi ke liye, bas itna samajh lijiye..
Shubman didn't respond.
He stood there, watching as Ishan picked up his ghunghroos, tied them back around his ankles, and prepared to leave.
Ishan: Rajkumar, raat ab bhi lambi hai. So jaaiye. Sapne dekhne ka kaam hum jaise logon pe chhodiye.
Before Shubman could say anything... Ishan disappeared into the shadows.
leaving behind the faint jingle of his anklets.
The prince stood under the neem tree for a long time.
staring at the empty space where Ishan had danced.
His chest felt heavier, his heart quieter.
For the first time in his life, Shubman Gill felt like he had lost control of something he didn't even know he possessed.
And it all began with the echo of ghunghroos.....
The days passed, but for Shubman... time seemed to move slower than ever.
His thoughts lingered on the mysterious dancer whose ghunghroo had stolen his peace.
The prince of Punjab was restless, his heart whispering a truth he dared not admit.
One evening, while pacing in his private chamber, Shubman looked into the mirror.
His royal attire reflected power, precious jewels symbolized responsibility.
But behind the facade, his eyes betrayed the storm within.
Shubman : (to himself)
Main kya kar raha hoon? Ek rajkumar hoon...Main ek raja banne wala hu, apne logon ke liye jeena hai. Par yeh dil... yeh toh kisi aur ke saath jeena chahta hai...
He exhaled deeply, his fingers gripping the edge of the table.
Shubman: (softly)
"woh kyun baar-baar mere sapno mein aata hai? Kyun lagta hai jaise bina uske sab kuch adhoora hai?"
That night, Shubman wrapped a shawl around himself and stepped out of his chamber once again.
His feet instinctively led him to the neem tree
Under the neem tree, Ishan danced with his usual grace, his movements as free as the wind.
This time, however, there was a certain melancholy in his rhythm, as if his heart was burdened with unspoken words.
Shubman stood in the shadows, watching him silently until the dance ended.
Ishan : rajkumar... Ap fir aagye? Ap koi aur kaam nhi hai?!
Shubman: (grinning slightly)
"Kaam toh hai, mere pair mujhe tumhare pass ghiche leaye"
Ishan : Samajhte hain aap ki yeh itna aasaan nahi hai? Agar koi dekh lega toh kya sochenge? Ek rajkumar ko raat ko iss tarah akele chalna shobha deta
Shubman: (stepping closer, his tone playful)
Toh kya karun? Tum din ke waqt milte nahi ho, aur yeh dil tumse door reh nahi paata.
Ishan : Dil? Rajkumar ke paas bhi dil hota hai kya? Mujhe toh laga aap log bas kanoon aur dharma ke liye jeete ho
Shubman : Dil tab tak chup rehta hai jab tak woh kisi se milta nahi, jo uska hakdar ho.
Ishan : Shubman... yeh sab... galat hai. Aap ek rajkumar ho. Apka dil kisi veshya (courtesan) ke liye nahi dhadakna chahiye.
Shubman : Galat kya hai, Ishan? Jo dil se mehsoos hota hai, woh galat kaise ho sakta hai? Tumne mujhe ek alag duniya dikhayi hai, jo iss rajgaddi se alag hai. Main apne dil ki baat maanta hoon.
Ishan: (looking down, his voice trembling)
Par yeh duniya humare dil ki baat nahi samjhegi.
Shubman: (lifting his chin gently)
Toh hum apni duniya khud banaenge.
The sincerity in Shubman's voice made Ishan's heart skip a beat.
For a moment, they stood there, the world around them fading into silence.
Shubman: (smiling, changing the mood)
Waise, tumhe dekh kar ek baat sochi hai."
Ishan : Kya?
Shubman:
Kya tum mere saath dance karoge?
Ishan: (laughing softly)
Rajkumar aur dance? Yeh toh naya hai.
Shubman: (grinning)
Naya ho ya purana, tumhare saath sab kuch sahi lagta hai.
With hesitation but a smile, Ishan took his hand.
Under the neem tree, the prince and the courtesan's son danced.
The ghunghroo chimed softly as Shubman clumsily tried to follow Ishan's lead, making Ishan laugh.
Ishan: (teasing)
Rajkumar, aapke pair niritya ke liye nahi bane.
Shubman: (mock pouting)
Toh kya karun? Tumhare saath toh sirf haarne ka mann karta hai.
Their laughter faded into silence as they came closer.
Shubman's hand rested gently on Ishan's waist, his other brushing a stray strand of hair from Ishan's face.
Shubman: (whispering)
Tumse mil kar lagta hai, zindagi ke sab sawalon ka jawab tum ho.
Ishan pulled back slightly, his eyes filled with both fear and love.
Ishan: (whispering)
Shubman... yeh raat hamesha ke liye nahi hai.
Shubman: (holding his gaze)
Par yeh mohabbat hamesha ke liye hai.
