Later that day, Ishan decided to commit a crime of his own one that was far more dangerous than any of Shubmanâs mafia dealings:
'Wearing a tight black shirt.'
It was innocent enough, really.
He just wanted to look cute for once.
(Not that he wasnât always cute-
he was. Obviously.)
But today, he had plans to meet an old friend from college, Riyan, who was visiting after years.
Ishan pranced around the mansion, adjusting his hair, humming a song under his breath, completely oblivious to the pair of sharp eyes burning holes into the back of his head.
Shubman was watching from the living room, his jaw clenched, arms crossed, eyes narrowed like a predator who just spotted his prey trying to escape.
And Ishan? Clueless.
Shubman : Where are you going, sweetheart?
Shubman asked, his voice smooth but dangerously low.
Ishan : Oh! Riyan is in town. You remember him, right? We were in the same college.
Shubmanâs eye twitched.
Riyan.
The name sounded like a threat.
Ishan : Weâre just having coffee. Itâs been ages! Iâm so excited. He used to help me with math. Such a sweetheart, really-
Shubman stood up.
Shubman : Sweetheart?
Ishan : Yeah, I mean friendly sweetheart. Not like, you sweetheart. Obviously.
Shubmanâs jaw tightened.
Shubman : Obviously.
Ishan didnât notice the dark cloud forming around his mafia husband.
Ishan : Heâs waiting downstairs. Iâll be back soon!
He grabbed his phone and headed toward the door.
Big mistake.
Before he could even touch the handle, Shubmanâs hand shot out, gripping his wrist.
Ishan turned, surprised.
Ishan : Huh?
Shubman : Iâll come with you.
Ishan : Why? Itâs just coffee.
Shubman didnât let go.
Shubman : Exactly. Just coffee.
His eyes darkened, a sharp contrast to his calm voice.
Ishan : Are you⦠okay?
Shubman leaned closer, his grip tightening slightly.
Shubman : Iâm fine. Are you? Because you seem to have forgotten youâre married.
Ishan gasped, offended.
Ishan : OH PLEASE. Iâm not running off to elope with Riyan.
Shubman:Â Youâd never get the chance.
Ishan : Are you... wait.. are you JEALOUS?!!
Shubman scoffed, dropping his hand.
Shubman : Donât be ridiculous.
Ishan grinned, sensing weakness.
Ishan : YOU ARE JEALOUS!
Shubman : I am not.
Ishan : You SO are
Shubman : Am not.
Ishan : ARE TOO
Shubman rolled his eyes, walking back to the couch like he didnât care.
Shubman : Go. Have your coffee.
Ishan : Youâre mad.
Shubman : Iâm not.
Ishan : Youâre MAD.
Shubman picked up a book, flipping it open aggressively.
Shubman : Not mad...
Ishan smirked, walking backward toward the door.
Ishan : Okayyy, Iâll just go then-
Before he could turn the knob, Shubmanâs voice snapped like a whip:
Shubman : Come back in an hour.
Ishan : Or what?
Shubman didnât even look up.
Shubman : Or Iâll come find you. And trust me, sweetheart...
he finally glanced up, eyes dark and sharp.
Shubman : you wonât like my version of coffee.
Ishan gulped.
Ishan : ON SECOND THOUGHT
he blurted, spinning around,
Ishan : I DONâT EVEN LIKE COFFEE.
Shubman smirked.
And after some minutes.
Ishan stomped back into the living room, dramatically standing front of the couch beside Shubmana with a loud sigh.
Ishan : i canceled the coffee
he announced, like he deserved a medal.
Shubman didnât even look up from his book.
Shubman : Good.
Ishan : GOOD? Thatâs all you have to say? I just sacrificed my social life because my husband is an overgrown, possessive coconut!!!
Shubman : A coconut?
Ishan : Yes
Ishan : Hard on the outside, no emotions, and full of ugh- COCONUTNESS!!
Shubman slowly turned his head, eyebrow raised.
Shubman : Coconutness isnât even a word.
Ishan : Shut up
Ishan growled, slumping against the armrest with a dramatic sigh, muttering under his breath,
Ishan : Jealous psychoâ¦
Shubmanâs lip twitched slightly, but he kept his cool.
Shubman : Iâm not jealous.
Ishan : YOU. ARE. JEALOUS.
Shubman : I am not.
Ishan : You so are
Ishan poked his arm.
Ishan : Your face literally turns into a grumpy emoji whenever someone breathes near me.
Shubman set his book down slowly, his patience thinning.
Shubman : Do you enjoy provoking me?
Ishan : Oh, absolutely.
In a flash, Shubman leaned over, pinning Ishan against the couch with one hand on the armrest and the other gripping Ishanâs jaw gently, tilting his face up.
Ishanâs breath hitched.
Butterflies?
No. A whole zoo.
Shubman : You think itâs funny?"
Ishan swallowed hard, eyes wide.
Ishan : A little bit--
Before he could finish, Shubmanâs lips crashed onto his, hot and demanding, stealing the words (and possibly his soul) right out of his mouth.
Ishan squirmed, trying to pretend he wasnât melting inside, but Shubmanâs hand slid to his waist, pulling him closer until their bodies were flush.
When Shubman finally pulled back, his lips just a whisper away from Ishanâs, he smirked.
Shubman : Still funny?
Ishan : Huh?
Shubman chuckled softly, brushing his thumb over Ishanâs flushed cheek.
Shubman : Exactly.
Ishan regained his sass within seconds.
Ishan : You think you can kiss me to win an argument?
Shubman leaned in again, voice a low purr.
Shubman : Itâs working, isnât it?
Ishan opened his mouth to argue but-
Shubman kissed him again.
Unfair.
When they finally pulled apart, Ishan was breathless.
Ishan : Y-Youâre impossible
Shubman smirked, leaning back casually.
Shubman : And yet, you canceled your coffee for me.
Ishan grabbed a pillow and hit him with it.
Ishan : JEALOUS PSYCHO
Shubman caught the pillow mid-air, laughing softly
Shubman : Your jealous psycho.
And Ishan well
He couldnât argue with that.
