ShubmanâÂÂs life was far from normal these days.
It had been a month.. one whole month.. since he had last seen Ishan, and things had only gone downhill.
At first, he had managed. Sure, he missed the chaotic energy that came with Ishan, the random voice notes full of nonsense, and the late-night rants about food cravings.
But he had convinced himself it was fine. Bas thoda time aur, phir milega.
But then, out of nowhere, things started to spiral.
People online had turned against him overnight, spreading hateful rumors about, his personal life, his character...things that werenâÂÂt even true.
At first, he ignored it.
"Be strong, Shubu. Main hoon na," IshanâÂÂs voice echoed in his head.
He held onto that. He tried to believe it.
But every passing day made it harder.
The weight of those words, those baseless accusations, started pressing on his chest.
His cricket suffered.
His mind wasnâÂÂt in the game.
The frustration built up, the fear crept in.
He didnâÂÂt even realize when it started affecting his performance, until today
An important match.
A chance to prove himself.
A chance to shut everyone up.
He failed.
10 runs. Out. Just like that.
And the worst part? He didnâÂÂt even feel angry.
JustâÂÂŚ hollow.
So when he returned to his room that night, shoulders slumped, eyes empty, he had no energy left
He didnâÂÂt even bother turning on the lights properly
He just wanted to collapse on the bed and disappear.
But then
"SURPRISEEEE!"
Shubman blinked.
The lights flicked on fully, and there he was.. standing in the middle of the room, hands in the air like a total idiot. Ishan.
For a second, Shubman just stared.
He was supposed to feel something, right? Shock? Happiness? Relief?
Nothing came.
IshanâÂÂs excited smile faltered a little.
Ishan : Arre? Kya yaar, yeh kya reaction hai? At least pretend to be happy!!
Ishan : Maine itni mehnat ki tujhe surprise dene ke liye. Bilkul emotionless aadmi hai tu.
But Shubman still didnâÂÂt say anything.
DidnâÂÂt laugh.
DidnâÂÂt react.
Instead
He ran to Ishan.
Before Ishan could even process what was happening, Shubman threw himself at him.
Arms tight around IshanâÂÂs waist, face buried in his shoulder, and
He broke.
A choked sound left his throat.
His fingers clutched IshanâÂÂs hoodie like his life depended on it.
And then, suddenly...he was crying.
Ishan froze.
His eyes widened.
Ishan : Shubi
He whispered, hands automatically coming up to hold him.
Ishan :Are you.. ? Wait, tu ro raha hai?
Shubman didnâÂÂt reply.
He just held on tighter.
IshanâÂÂs heart clenched. Shubman never cried.
Never broke down like this. He always acted like he had everything under control.
But right nowâÂÂŚ he was shaking.
Ishan didnâÂÂt even hesitate. His arms wrapped around Shubman, pulling him impossibly closer, hand going to the back of his head, holding him.
Ishan :Main yahan hoon na, ShubiâÂÂŚ sab theek hai, bas. Chod sab kuch.
And just like that... Shubman let himself fall apart.
Ishan didnâÂÂt move.
He just stood there, arms wrapped tightly around Shubman, holding him like he was something fragile like if he let go, Shubman would shatter.
Shubman, on the other hand, wasnâÂÂt even trying to hide it anymore.
He was exhausted. A
The past month had drained him, and now that Ishan was here, the dam had finally broken.
He was still gripping IshanâÂÂs hoodie like his life depended on it, still hiding his face in IshanâÂÂs shoulder, and still crying.
Ishan exhaled softly, rubbing slow circles on ShubmanâÂÂs back.
Ishan : Bas, Shubi. Itna stress lene ka nahi re.
Ishan : Sab theek hai, main hoon na.
Shubman just shook his head, pressing himself further into IshanâÂÂs warmth.
Shubman : Nahi hai theek. Kuch bhi nahi theek hai, Ishu.
Ishan frowned, his hold tightening.
Ishan : Kya ho gaya? Bata mujhe.
For a few moments, there was only silence.
ShubmanâÂÂs breaths were shaky, his body still trembling slightly.
But then..
Shubman : Sab mujhe hate kar rahe hain.
His voice was barely above a whisper.
Ishan : Kya?
Shubman _ Online. LogâÂÂŚ theyâÂÂre saying things. Fake things. About me.
His voice cracked at the end.
IshanâÂÂs brows furrowed.
He had been so caught up with planning this surprise that he hadnâÂÂt even checked his phone properly today.
But before he could ask more, Shubman pulled back just enough to look at him, his teary eyes filled with something else.. something darker.
Fear.
Shubman : Aur mujhe sabse zyada kis baat ka darr lag raha hai pata hai?
IshanâÂÂs heart clenched.
Ishan : Kya?
Shubman sucked in a breath. His grip on Ishan tightened again as he whispered
Shubman : Mujhe darr lag raha hai ki tu bhi mujhe chhod dega.
Ishan stopped breathing.
Shubman : Jab tu yeh sab sunegaâÂÂŚ jab tu bhi sochega ki main waise hi hoon jaise log bol rahe hainâÂÂŚ toh tu bhi chala jayega, na?
His voice was so quiet, so broken.
For the first time in his life, Ishan didnâÂÂt have a sarcastic reply.
His brain blanked for a second. Did Shubman really think that?
Ishan felt something sharp twist inside his chest.
Yeh banda pagal hai kya? He almost wanted to smack him.
Instead, he grabbed ShubmanâÂÂs face, cupping his cheeks firmly.
Ishan : Tu sach mein pagal hai.
Shubman : Kya-
Ishan : Shut up.
IshanâÂÂs voice was firm.
Ishan : Tu idiot hai. Bewakoof hai.
Shubman just stared at him, slightly dazed.
Ishan sighed and shook his head
Ishan : Main tujhe chhod dunga? Seriously, Shubi?
His voice softened, thumb brushing against ShubmanâÂÂs cheek.
Ishan : Main kahin nahi jaa raha.
ShubmanâÂÂs lower lip trembled slightly.
Ishan pulled him closer, pressing their foreheads together.
Ishan : Sun, log kya bol rahe hain usse koi farq nahi padta, samjha? Yeh duniya ki sabse bada bakwas hai. Main tujhe tere game se, tere records se, ya tere naam se nahi pyaar karta. Main tujheâÂÂŚ
ishan : Main tujhe tujhse pyaar karta hoon, samjha?
ShubmanâÂÂs breath hitched.
Ishan : Tu Shubman Gill hai, mera Shubu. Aur tu chahe zero banaye ya century, chahe log kuch bhi bakwas kare, chahe duniya idhar se udhar ho jaye.. main tere saath hoon. Hamesha.
Shubman choked out a small laugh, even as fresh tears rolled down his face.
Ishan : Ab chal, letâÂÂs get comfortable. Bahut ho gaya rona dhona.
Before Shubman could protest, Ishan pulled him down, making him rest his head on his lap.
Shubman instantly melted.
His comfort place.
Ishan smiled, fingers threading through ShubmanâÂÂs soft hair, patting his head gently.
Ishan : Bas, ab chill kar. Tu na overthink bohot karta hai, pagal.
Shubman hummed softly, eyes fluttering shut as he finally let himself breathe.
Ishan : Aur haan, tu agar firse mujhe chhodne wali bakwas karega na, toh kasam se maar padegi.
Shubman let out a small chuckle, voice drowsy, but full of something warm.
Shubman :Samajh gaya, Ishu.
Ishan : Good. Ab so ja, meri roti hui billi.
Shubman :ĂÂ Ishu-
Ishan :Shhh
Ishan whispered, patting his head again.
Ishan :Bas, so ja. Main yahan hoon.
And for the first time in a long, long time
Shubman slept peacefully.
