âI love her,â replied Samuel icily. âThatâs enough.â
âI think you donât realize how grave your mistake was back then!â yelled Christopher furiously. âYouâll make her unhappy if you keep forcing her against her wishes.â
âGot it. Thanks for your reminder.â Samuel ended the call and drove away.
Christopher frowned. What did he understand?
Christopher stopped his car outside where Kathleen was staying before calling her.
However, the call didnât get through.
Glancing at the time, he saw that it was already eleven at night.
Sheâs probably asleep. After all, sheâs the main chef now. Iâll just let her sleep. She must be exhausted!
Christopherâs heart ached.
At that moment, a woman stood in front of his car and knocked on his car window.
Christopher rolled the windows down. âAstrid?â
âCan I get into the car?â asked Astrid softly.
After thinking about it, he nodded.
Astrid sat beside the driverâs seat and said after a short pause, âOh no! I forgot that this is your fiancéeâs seat now.â
Christopher said grimly, âItâs fine.â
Delighted, Astrid closed the car door.
âWhat do you want, Astrid?â demanded Christopher unhappily. âYou canât keep making things difficult for Kathleen.â
âIâm sorry. Iâm just struggling to get over it,â apologized Astrid. âI simply want to know what kind of woman you like.â
âI donât like someone whoâs like you,â replied Christopher coldly. âIâm just being polite to you out of courtesy for your grandfather. I hope you do whatâs best for yourself.â
âI know. Do you think that I can do anything to her?â asked Astrid indignantly. âLook at what she had done to me! Why donât you tell your fiancée off and ask her to be nicer to me?â
âI wonât interfere in how sheâs treating you,â rejected Christopher curtly.
Astrid hesitated. âChristopher, I know you hate me and think Iâm deliberately making things difficult for Kathleen. But I have no choice.â
âWhat do you mean?â Christopher frowned.
âWould you believe me if I say my grandfatherâs collaborating with Samuel? He hinted to my grandfather that I should come back and stir up trouble,â revealed Astrid. âIf I refuse, Samuel would stop collaborating with my grandfather. Iâm left with no choice.â
âAre you saying that Samuel instructed you to do this?â Christopher frowned.
âYeah! He wants me to separate both of you so that he has an opportunity to intervene.â Astrid pleaded, âIâm so sorry, Christopher. I donât want to do this either. But my grandfatherâs old, and I donât want him to work too hard.â
Christopher said coldly, âIf Samuelâs using this to threaten you, Iâll think of a solution. Iâll talk to your grandfather and tell him that Morris Group can collaborate with him instead, so he doesnât need to worry. Meanwhile, you should stop bullying Kathleen.â
âThatâs great! I have nothing to fear if youâre backing me up.â Astrid grinned.
Christopher said solemnly, âGo out. Iâll handle the rest.â
âOkay.â Astrid nodded and was about to leave the car.
âHuh?â She raised her hands and placed them on Christopherâs collar. Smiling, she remarked, âYour collar is ruffled.â
Christopher shoved her hands away. âIâll tidy it myself.â
Not feeling embarrassed, Astrid laughed. âQuickly pick your fiancée up! If sheâs taking care of you, you wonât be so clueless that you donât even know your collarâs up.â
Christopher gave no response. Only then did Astrid finally get out of the car.
Christopher frowned. Iâve underestimated how vicious Samuel is. Heâs gone overboard!
The moment Astrid left the car and turned around, a cold smirk formed on her lips.
Christopherâs becoming more and more charismatic. Iâll never give up. Kathleenâs just another b*tch who was previously married. She doesnât deserve Christopher!
When Kathleen woke up the next day, her head felt extremely heavy.
When she took her temperature, she realized that it was 38.7 degrees Celsius.
âAre you awake, Kathleen?â Astrid knocked on the door.
âCome in,â she replied.
Astrid pushed the door open and entered. Smiling, she asked, âArenât you going to wake up?
Everyoneâs waiting for you. Itâs not good to keep everyone waiting, right?â
âPlease tell them that I have a high fever, so I canât go down and cook,â said Kathleen weakly.
âNo way!â Surprised, Astrid raised her hand to touch Kathleenâs forehead.
Kathleen dodged it. âThank you.â
âAll right, then.â Astrid nodded, got up, and let.
After that, Kathleen stood up from her bed and took out some fever medicine from her luggage.
She gulped a pill down with some warm water.
Still, she had a huge headache and felt extremely uncomfortable.
She crawled back to the bed and wrapped the blanket around herself tightly.
After a while, Nancy entered. âAre you having a fever, Kathleen?â
âItâs 37.8 degrees Celsius.â Kathleen snuggled in the blanket and said in a nasal tone, âNancy, Iâm afraid that I canât cook today.â
Nancy placed her hand on Kathleenâs forehead and frowned. âRest well! Donât worry about whatâs happening downstairs. Have you taken some medicine?â
Kathleen nodded. âYeah.â
âGood. Have a good rest. Iâll bring some porridge over to you later. Lie down now!â said Nancy.
âOkay.â Kathleen lay back down, and Nancy left after tucking her in.
When she arrived downstairs, she told Steve, âShe really has a fever.â
âThatâs right! 37.8 degrees Celsius is really high!â remarked Astrid snarkily.
âWhat should we do?â John looked at Steve. âWhoâs going to cook?â
âKathleenâs really exhausted recently. Sheâs the only one commanding the entire kitchen,â
commented Nancy meaningfully. âWhy isnât the production team giving us someone more reliable?â
Astrid said nonchalantly, âWhy donât we ask Mila to come back? Just tell Kathleen to make a call.
She still has the energy to make a call even if she has a 37.8 degrees Celsius fever, right?â
Nancy shot an unhappy glance at Astrid. âDo you know what an average human beingâs temperature is? Why do you keep saying that itâs 37.8 degrees Celsius in such a snarky tone?â
âI didnât say anything mean, right, Ms. Nancy?â replied Astrid.
âDonât call me that! Iâm your age,â snapped Nancy in annoyance. âWeâre both adults, so stop speaking like a child. Itâs as if youâre dumb! Everyoneâs thinking of a solution, so why are you saying something so unrealistic?â
Astrid bit her lips in indignance. âNancy, I didnât say anything much! Also, none of us know how to cook. Whoâd expect that Kathleen would fall sick the moment I come?â
âAnyone can fall sick.â John shot a displeased glare at Astrid. âHey, if youâre still in love with Christopher, why donât you look for him privately? Weâre still filming a show. What are you trying to do?â
Biting her lip, Astrid remained silent with a pitiful look.
The atmosphere in the kitchen was extremely tense.
John exclaimed in frustration, âWhatâs going on? What kind of guest did they invite? Sheâs so b*tchy! If we rebuke her, itâs like weâre being unreasonable!â
