You say you want to write, You tell yourself that today is the day,
But still, you choose to go spend the evening with your friends,
The two essayâs and three poems you have due in the morning,
Plays on the back of your mind, you havenât even started, have you?
You tell yourself, you will only stay for half an hour,
But thatâs soon forgotten. Instead, you lose track of time,
And before you know it, many hours have gone by,
Just so you could post it all on Instagram,
All meaningless memories that will amount to nothing in the end.
You know this, yet you choose to stay,
Is it to keep your image up?
Or is it to impress those girls you call friends?
You stay out well into the night,
You know youâll spend the rest of the night writing, playing catch up,
All because you couldnât say no to your âfriendsâ.
You say you only need a little inspiration,
So you take a weekend, to go on a âwriting retreatâ,
But instead, you choose to spend the day with your father,
That same father, you claim is dead to you.
I watch as you throw away your potential, bit by bit,
You could do so much, get so much accomplished,
If only you took it seriously, if only you chose to ignore these distractions.
What you need is to be locked in a quiet place, with no distractions,
I can give you that, a space so quiet and isolated from any kind of distraction,
You would, without a doubt, be able to produce a piece of work so amazing,
You just have to sit down and put your beautiful mind to it.
