"Ah, Y/n I presume?" Ms. Finley, your teacher, asked as you walked into the classroom.

"Oh uh yes ma'am."  You said as she smiled at you.

"Put your bag down here and sit three desks down." She said as she pointed to where you had to sit your bag down at and where you would be seated, you nodded and obliged.

As you sat down, more children flooded the room and began to sit down. After everyone was settled, class was ready and about to start. That was, before a kid rushed inside.

"Ms. Finley! I'm so sorry! Am I late?" The boy asked as he sat his bag down, the teacher just chuckled.

"You made it just in time. Please take a seat." She said as he looked around the room.

You weren't paying much attention, you were reading a book that you had brought with you to pass the time before class started for the day. You had never liked reading until early this year, but you asked your mom and dad and they agreed to buy you more books.

"Yes ma'am but um..where exactly do I sit?" He asked.

"You can sit behind Y/n, Y/n! Raise your hand please." She said, without looking up from your book you raised a hand as the boy who was standing up front was now sitting behind you.

"Okay, now that everyone is settled, let's begin class." She said.

~~~
"Okay everyone, go enjoy your time outside." She said, all the students rushed out the door and outside except you. You grabbed your book and were about to join the rest of the kids before Ms. Finley had stopped you.
"Y/n? Can you spare a moment?" She asked as you turned around, she walked up to you with a concerned smile.
"Y/n, I would appreciate it if you didn't bring this with you." She said, pointing at the book in your hands.
"I won't get it dirty or ruined I promis-"
"No, what I mean is you should play with the other students. You haven't said one word or raised your hand once since the school day began. You've barely even looked up from your book. Please." She said.
You rubbed the book slightly as you looked at the ground, not saying a word. What could you say? You certainly did not want to give up your book for some kids that you didn't even like, nor want to talk to.
She sighed and looked at you.
"Y/n, I heard some your teacher from last year that you weren't very social at all. I'd like to help you change that, please put the book down." She said to you.
"Yes ma'am.." You said, you walked over to your desk and went to place the book back down.
"Thank you." She said as she turned around towards her seat, an idea hit you.
You clutched the book tightly in your hands and ran out of the door and outside without her realizing that you had taken it. After you made it outside, feeling victorious, you decided to sit down under a nearby tree.
"Time to read this, who needs to talk to them anyways?" You said to yourself as you flipped through the pages, finding where you had previously left off.
"Ha! You both are very funny, but may I please get that back? It truly is my favorite book." Someone said nearby you, you sighed and shut the book as you placed it down. You were quite curious to figure out what was happening, and to stop the ruckus that was bothering your book reading.
"I think i'll keep it! Only stupid people read this stuff!" A different voice had said, after reading that you walked over to the scene.
To your surprise it the boy from this morning and two other boys, though, you knew the other two. They had bullied and messed with you last year, their names were William and Joseph.
The boy had stood up, only to be knocked down again by William. You could see a few dirt marks and scratches on him.
"Yeah! We're going to keep it." The other boy, Joseph, said.
"Please, I would appreciate it if you give that back." The boy said, adjusting his glasses. His eyebrows furrowed and his smile faltering.
"William, Joseph. Go away, won't you?" You said to them as you stood behind the boy.
"What are you? His girlfriend?" William said, making Joseph laugh his ass off.
'Not even that funny'  You thought.
"No, I don't even know his name but you guys are getting on my nerves. I don't think you want to get hurt or in trouble on your first day, do you?" You asked him.
"What are you going to do?" He asked as you looked over to the boy who was sitting on the ground, you saw that he had another, hard covered, book beside him.
"May I borrow this for a second?" You asked him.
"Huh? Oh yes you can but what for-"
You took the book and slammed it down onto William's head as hard as you could.
"OW! THAT HURT! Take your stupid book back, I don't even want it anymore." William said as he threw the book down and rushed away, with joseph following behind him.
You picked up the book that they had taken, along with the one you had borrowed. You glanced at them to see that they were by the same author of the book you had been reading.
"Here, and are you okay?" You asked as you handed him his books and helped him back onto his feet.
"Yes, i'll be alright. Thank you. Your name is Y/n, correct?" He asked, brushing himself off.
"Oh yeah, uh sorry I never caught your name." You said as he held out a hand for you to shake.
"Alastor, Alastor Leblanc. A pleasure to meet you!" He said, shaking your hand.
"You sit behind me, don't you?" You asked.
"Yup! Hey I have a great idea!" He said, letting go of your hand.
"And what's that?"
"We should definitely be friends!" He said, cheerfully.
"I don't have any friends right now and you like the same author as me sooo alright!" You agreed, you and him laughed until you heard the bell ring. signaling that it was time to come back in.
"Lets go, I don't wanna be late."  You said with a smile as you took his hand and rushed over to the door with him alongside you.
"Oh, aha! Right!" He said as you walked inside the building.
~~~

"I had a great time at school with you today, maybe we could have fun like this again some other time?" He asked. The school day was now over and you and him were about to part ways.

"I think that's a good idea, besides that's what friends do right? That's what we are now." You said with a giggle.

"Of course, also may I walk you home? I'm sure my mother wouldn't mind." He asked you.

"Only if you're okay with it." You said as he grabbed your hand.

"Great! Lead the way." He said as you giggled a little bit before starting to walk and lead the like he said. As you and him walked away from the school he decided to make small talk.

"So, you like to read too?" He asked you, your hand still in his.

"Well, not up until recently. I guess it's a new hobby." You answered.

"Oh, I see. I started reading at some point last year and I found it really fun." He said as you and him made it to your neighborhood, he stopped when you made it to the entrance.

"Huh? Why'd you stop?" You asked.

"This is your neighborhood?" He asked you.

"Yes, why do you ask?"

"This is my neighborhood too." He said with a small laugh as your eyes widened, a smile forming on your face.

You never had many friends, most of the other kids either bullied you or tried their best to ignore you, which was easy because you were relatively quiet. You never had much friends, especially one that lived in the same neighborhood as you.

"No way.." You said.

"Yup! Let's go." He said to you as you and him continued walking until you had made it to your house.

The thing is, he had lived on the same street as you too. You lived at house 31, with him living at house 39. So only a few houses down from you. You and him were very happy to find this out, seeing as though you both had never had friends who lived so close. Your father was at work when you made it home but your mother was ecstatic to see that you had already made a new friend, especially one with such good manners like Alastor. She even invited him to stay for dinner, which he had accepted.

"You know, i'm actually glad that I was teased today." Alastor said, sitting next to you on the couch. You lifted a brow to his remark.

"What I mean is, we might not have been friends if I wasnt. So, i'm glad that I was. I was able to make friends with you." He said with a smile.

"Good point, i'm also happy that I got to hit William" You said, to which you and Alastor laughed at. The laughter died down when your mother called for you and him.

"Coming mom! We're on our way." You said as you hopped up off of the couched and walked over to the dining room.

~~~
"Thank you for dinner Mrs. L/n" Alastor said, standing in the doorframe of the front door with his back turned to the outside so he could face you and your mother.
"Of course please, come back anytime Alastor. You're always welcome here." She said as she turned around and walked away.
"We should do this again sometime, maybe at your house?" You asked as his happy smile faded a little.
"My house might not be the best fit for somewhere to play at." He said, you could tell that there was a bigger reason why but you didn't want to pry.
"That's alright then, there's a lake nearby. What if we went over there this weekend?" You asked as his smile returned.
"Mhm! I'd love to." He said as he gave you a small hug, a bright pink dusted your cheeks before he pulled away and ran off.
"I'll see you tomorrow Y/n! Goodnight!" He yelled, happily before continuing home. You gave a small wave with a smile before you shut the door.
(Alastor's Pov)
I was walking home, after I said my goodbye's I tried to speed up my walking.
"Hopefully father isn't home this evening." I said to myself, it was quite dark out now. Hopefully my mother isn't too worried as well.
As I made it to the door, before it had even opened I could hear yelling. Which was definitely my fathers for sure. This certainly was not good, and it wasn't hard to tell by just his voice he was in a bad mood, and most likely drunk. The door was unlocked to I opened the door and stepped in.
"Please dear, he's home..do not yell." My mother said with tears falling from her eyes, this was always a hard sight for me to see. And exactly why I didn't want Y/n coming over. My father turned around to look at me as I shut the front door.
"Where were you? Who said you could be out?" He yelled at me, dear god how I hated this man. With every part of me, I wish he was gone, dead.
"I was having dinner at a friends house." I answered.
"Who said that you could?" He asked with visible anger towards me, I didn't do anything wrong though.
"I-" I tried to reply but was soon cut off.
"I did, please let the boy go to his room. He has school tomorrow." She said, with tears still falling.
"You whore, what did you do while no one was home huh?" He yelled at my mother.
"Mom-"
"Please darling, go to your room." She said.
