Fighting Fate2,882 words~15 min read

I shifted restlessly something was disturbing the darkness it seemed to fade and wilt away. Something moved towards me and I stood backing away as a huge wolf made its way towards me. "You need to wake up, this darkness will claim our soul. It already has a strong grip on you if you fall to far under it will keep you from ever waking up." The wolf stopped a few feet away from me and slowly recognition dawned on me. This was the wolf half of my soul. "Wake up, there is more we must do before we are allowed to rest, one challenge is not the end of our trails." When the wolf finished speaking she/I disappeared back into the darkness.

Ice cold water stung my face and drenched my body. I felt as though I had been plunged into a frozen pond in the middle of winter. I gasped and sat up gulping for air, light and color pouring in. Around me making an image. The last curls of darkness slithered away reluctantly and slowly my consciousness came back to me. Corrigan was standing in front of me holding an empty bucket, a smile stretched over her face. Azarias was standing against the wall. I could see him straining to stay where he was and not come closer. "Well look at that it worked." Corrigan said. She tossed the bucket at Azarias with a smirk. Seems like he didn't think water would be of help. "Um, how is it you can be here and not be ripped to pieces?" I asked Corrigan. Werewolves we never allowed into a vampire coven no matter there relationship. I was an exception because I was seen as part of the coven because I was the Coven Master's Consort, or rather consort to be. "Look around" Corrigan told me. I did what she said and glance around. Wherever I was I wasn't at the Manor or the Compound. I was in an expensive looking two story house. I was on a large brown leather couch, which was now soaking wet as well, in the middle of the living room. The hardwood floor was also wet and if someone didn't clean it up soon it would be ruined. Oddly the house seemed familiar but my head was still to fogged over to place it. "Did it work?" A voice for another room called. I recognized the voice immediately and turned to see the source walking into the room. Her long blonde hair was pulled up into a ponytail that mirrored Corrigan's. She was wearing a light green tank top the showed off the birthmark on her right shoulder. Thing one thing that held my attention though were her midnight blue eyes that still made me want to melt just a little. "Gwynn" I breathed. Gwynn was carrying a couple of towels which she dropped when she saw I was awake. She hurled herself at me and knocked me back down onto the couch. "What the hell Kye!" She yelled at me. She continued to smoother me and successful stopped any conversation from taking place for a few minutes. When she finally crawled off me she had tears in her eyes. "Gwynn what's wrong?" I asked concerned and confused. She slapped me across the face before answering...loudly."What's wrong!? You really don't know? You have answered a single text from me or Samantha in months. Why thought something happened to you. Than tonight you show up at my house in a coma being carried around by some stick up her ass pissy vampire. Who takes over my house and than this grumpy ripe you head off werewolf shows up. You tell me Kye, what the hell is wrong!"

I turned to look at Corrigan for help but she was just watching with an amused expression on her face. She apparently liked Gwynn's description of her. I looked at Azarias but he was of zero help as well. My gaze finally settled on a shadow in the corner of the room not far from Azarias. Tess was well hidden and she watched the whole thing with her normal look of indifference. I looked back at Gwynn who was pouting at me waiting for an answer. "Sorry about not texting...I ah I -" Gwynn cut me off. "You what? Lost your phone? Or you had better things to do than talk to two silly humans? Who care about you and were worried about you?" She demanded. "That's not it ok Gwynn!" I stood up from the couch and started pacing around the room. "Things got complicated and I just-" I stopped but Gwynn finished the sentence for me. "You just started cutting people off." I looked at her and saw the truth to her words in her eyes. "I didn't know how to handle things and I didn't want other mixed up in it." I said. "When you don't know what to do that is when you turn to your friends for help not separate yourself from them, you brainless wolf." She told me. "She has a point." Corrigan spoke up. I turned to glare at her, now she speaks. I just looked at them silently for a minute, overly aware of the vampires I the room. I really didn't need them knowing everything about me. "Fine your both right, happy?" Gwynn grabbed the towels she dropped and started cleaning up the water that had splashed the floor. "I won't be happy until you tell me what the hell has been going on." Gwynn said.

I grabbed another towel and started to help her. " let's see I had my first shift. I am a beta wolf by the way. Than I became Andrea's sworn Servari, and my dad came back to visit." I told her the simplified version. "Why did your dad come back and how do the vampires for in?" She asked. She looked up at me and i met her blue eyes. "My dad came back because I kinda got engaged you could say." A look of shock crossed her face and she turned to look at Tess, Gwynn's scent became laced with a harsh smell that I was pretty sure was jealousy. A blush crept over my face when I realized she thought I was engaged to Tess, Gwynn was the only person other than Corrigan who knew I was gay. "He is the leader of a local coven." I said quickly." Gwynn's gaze came back and landed on me. I didn't understand the look on her face at all and than she did something I really didn't expect. Gwynn burst out laughing. 'What the Hell!' "Oh this is perfect, I can't wait until I tell Samantha about this!" She got out between laughs. "What is so funny!" I demanded. Gwynn sobered up a bit but not much.  "Samantha and I have been researching and learning more about the different supernatural communities since we became friends with you. So I know what a Servari is and I also know the kind of environment a vampire Coven is, Mistress." Gwynn was able to finish her sentence before another round of laughing took her. "Gwynn," Corrigan said. Gwynn turned her attention to the steady werewolf. "I understand why it may seem funny and under different circumstances I would be laughing over this as well, but Kye was glossed over some things in her summary that make this situation not funny but dire and possibly even deadly." Her words broke Gwynn's good mood and she turned her now worried eyes back to me.

"Excuse me, I am sorry to interrupt the...reunion but the sun will be rising soon and I must return to the Manor. Kylie, with permission from Raiza you are to return to the pack. Tess will be with you for the duration of your stay." With that Azarias disappeared from the room. I looked at Corrigan. "I'm going back to the compound? Why?" She sighed and sat down on the now dry sofa. "Kye, do you know why you collapsed?" She asked me. I thought about it for a minute. Technically I wasn't bonded to Azarias yet through the mate bond but another bond existed between us, one of promise. I had sworn that I would accept his mark when I became of age. This to many was as good as a mate bond because it bound me and Azarias together. It was why Tess saw me as Azarias consort already and called me Mistress. The bond didn't change the fact that I didn't trust the vampires and did everything I could to avoid them. I had also been avoiding the pack mainly because it hurt to see Andrea with her future mate or to be around the others and have them talk about it. When I was around Aspen I could see the pity in her eyes. Being with the pack was just as bad as being with the Coven, and I had been cutting myself off from everyone as a result. There were lone wolves out there but a wolf who grew up with the pack bond and was a dedicated part of the pack could never become a lone wolf. Werewolves had more of a connection to their pack members than normal wolves and they needed the pack more. I needed my pack and I had been hiding from it because I couldn't stand being there.

"I have an idea of why I collapsed, so I am going to be forced to stay with the pack until I get over it?" I asked. Corrigan shook her head and sat down next to me. "Kye, we are giving you a choice to make. One that is completely up to you. Despite everything Azarias truly cares for you and when he finally understood, for the most part, what it is you gave up and the choice you made he regretted forcing you into a corner. He asked me to get Andrea to take back her order and have the bond between you broken. Sadly we can't do that." Corrigan stopped here for a moment and turned to look at Gwynn. "Why can't the bond be broken?" She asked Corrigan. "Kye is a Sevari and her Alpha ordered her to do something, there is no taking back an order. We obey the Alpha's command. We swear our lives to them and in return they are completely responsible for our actions. It is way true commands rarely happen between an Alphas and their Sevari." Corrigan explained to her. "What choice is it that I have to make Corrigan?" I asked impatient. Corrigan turned her gaze back on me. "You need a pack and if you don't have one you will die, slowly. No one wants that to happen Kye.-" I stood up and glared down at her. "I have a pack!" Corrigan stood up from the floor and placed her hand on my shoulder. "Do you really, Kye? You were born into the NightShade pack and grew up there. You have family there. Than you lost your memories and you started over in a new pack, your fathers unit in the army. You thrived there and were happy until law demanded you return for your first shift. When you did you met your old pack your old family and you received your old memories, but did you really ever become apart of the pack again?" She asked me. "I am your friend and others would count themselves as your friends but tell me Kye how close are you to anyone in the pack?"

I looked away from Corrigan's probing gaze. Was she right? Was my pack not truly my pack? I thought of Skye and Ryan, Sadie and Aspen, Ember and Andrea, and the others I met and got to know during my brief return to the pack. They had easily accepted me and treated me as part of the pack but I had never really got to know any of them, not even Andrea. "I...care about them. I wouldn't have made my oath to Andrea if I didn't want to be apart if the pack." I said. "Kye, you will always be apart of the pack we are you family but that is not my question. Are we apart of your pack? Every wolf is apart of a pack but every wolf also has their own pack, a pack of people they rely on for support, people they trust above anything else." Corrigan said. "That would be you and -" I looked up and my gaze rested on Tess. She was an annoying, indifferent pain in my ass but in the three months I knew her I could always rely on her I if I needed help. "One person isn't enough Kye, especially since we rarely get a chance to speak. So you have a choice but first know this if you accept the bond with Azarias and you are freer to do what you want. Andrea's order was just to for a mate bond with him once you do that you are free. Azarias won't hold you to anything. Keep this in mind when you make your choice. Kye, you need to choice between the pack and the coven or a third option is joining the army like your father and putting off this choice until you are ready to make the choice." Corrigan said.

"What do you mean I need to chose between the pack and the coven?" I asked. "It means if you pick the pack, despite your bond with Azarias, you will be solely part of the pack. If you chose the coven than you will become a full member of the coven, or you can chose the army and wait to make this choice. If you never want to make the choice than you can stay in the army for as long as you want. Whatever chose you make Kye just chose the place where you will find a pack, people who can keep you from falling back into the darkness. You have already visited that darkness too many times, if you return there again there is no guarantee you will awaken."

I sat on the couch for a long time after Corrigan left. Gwynn tried to get me to do something and take my mind of the choice Corrigan had placed in front of me. 'Why was it even a hard choice to make? Why would I ever chose to be apart of the coven?' Still I should have been happy to return to the pack yet I hesitated. Why? Was I really so pathetic I didn't want to return because of Andrea or was there another reason? Than there was the third choice of joining the army. Ironically that had been my plan when I first returned to the pack. Suffer out my five years as an adolescent wolf and then escape the confines of pack life by joining the army. 'How had my life made a complete 180 degree turn.?' I had a big enough choice to make and still there was another choice should I finish the mate bond with Azarias or ignore it for five years until I couldn't put it off any more?

Gwynn's house was silent it was 3 pm and she was sleeping in her attic room. Tess had disappeared somewhere to sleep out the day, leaving me to my solitude. Corrigan's had told me I could stay at Gwynn's house for exactly one week. My decision should be made by then or sooner. Tess would stay with me for that week because until I made my decision I was still a ward of both the Pack and the Coven. I would never be ride of Azarias no matter what choice I made, so no matter what they said the coven would cling to me like a nightmare.

I stood up from the couch annoyed by the circular thoughts going round my head. I was sick and tired of just sitting idly by as things happened around me. 'They thought these were my only choices? Maybe there were others they just couldn't see.' I walked silently across the living room floor and made my way to the front door. I passed the staircase that lead upstairs and a memory bloomed of the last time I was in this house. I was in the middle of a sleep over with Gwynn when she had suddenly kissed me. I recalled the warmth of her body pressed up against mine. The scent of her desire and the way she moved against me. I had never realized until than that she had feelings for me. I hadn't known what to do and before I could do anything Andrea had started pounding on the front door. In the end I never really had a conversation with her about it. I just let her think it could never happen. I stopped and looked up at the stairs for a moment before I turned around and walked out the front door.
