Ch. 4

Fighting Fate2,582 words~13 min read

I flopped on the bed and laid down. There was nothing else I could do. Viviana played her games and there was no stopping her. Despite her personality she was the Epsilon for the U.S., the most dominate Alpha in the country and had a place on the supernatural council. Unfortunately for most people they didn't understand how to handle Viviana when they met her for the first time and were steamrolled over by her. Luckily, I had experience dealing with Viviana and I had a past with her. I knew exactly what I had gotten myself into when I came here, at least I hoped hat was true.

There was no telling when Viviana would be back and I knew there was no way to break out of this room. I turned over and pulled the think, warm comforter on top of myself. Settling back into the wide bed I let myself unwind and fall asleep.

****

When I woke up I was no longer in the bed I was in a hard wooden chair, tied down. My wrists were tied together behind my back, and my legs were tied to the chair. The binds were made very thin but they were silver. They could have been easily broken by a human, for a werewolf however it would be impossible. Cliché as it was silver weakened most supernaturals and no one was sure why. "Viviana!" I called into the dark room. I wasn't blindfolded but the room was so dark a blindfold wouldn't have made a difference. "Your awake," she said. Her finger tips brushed the back of my neck and I jumped. "What the hell?" I asked. "Oh, relax Kye, I'm just having some fun. Besides my pack would be suspicious if I didn't thoroughly interrogate you." She said. Her fingers trailed down my arms, raising goosebumps across my back. "Most of your pack should remember me. Try another reason." I snapped. "Hmmm....is curiosity an acceptable reason for you?" She asked. "No! Now let me go." I told her. "That's no fun, you just woke up. Let me play for a little bit." She whined. "Get over your-" I was cut off when the ceiling exploded. I couldn't see what happened but there was a loud thump coming from above. Than the sound of wood breaking. A bit of light came streaming in from the whole in the ceiling. It wasn't a lot because it was night and also the dust from the explosion blocked out some of it. In front of us was a large piece of the ceiling and standing atop it was a vampire. Her eyes were glowing red and her fangs were extended. Viviana quickly cut my bonds, she must have had wire cutters nearby. I stood up and moved in front of Viviana. She may not have been my Alpha but as the most dominate Alpha all wolves owed alive cue to her, so long as they were under the rule of the government and council. My duty was to protect her from any threat, and I would gladly even if I died. I owed that and so much more to her.

"Leave now!" I  told the vampire. "Not until I got what I came for." A familiar voice said. "Which is what exactly?" Viviana asked from behind me. "The girl." The vampire replied. She stepped closer and I was able to make out her face through the shifting dust. The first thing I recognized was the glint of silver that sparked by her nostril. "Tess?" I asked. 'What the hell was she doing here?' Tess took another step closer. "Kye, do you know her?" Viviana asked me. "She was or is the vampire that Azarais assigned to protect me." I explained. "Is this true?" Viviana asked Tess. "It is" she replied indifferently as always. "Than tell me Tess why would you trespass onto my territory and attack me?" Viviana asked. "You were going to torturing her!" She said. "Oh? Was I? I don't recall any plans whatsoever to torture her."

"Don't lie! I could smell her skin being burned by the silver!" Tess said. "How did you smell that? How did you get so far in my compound in such little time?" Viviana demanded. "Enough of this nonsense, give me Kye and I will leave." Tess replied. "It is not nonsense it is important, and I have no control over whether Kye stays or goes the choice is hers." Viviana said. "Kye, would you like to leave with you vampire friend here?" I looked up at Viviana there was a glint in her eye. It was the same look she always got when she discovered a new play toy. "I'm not leaving until I get what I came here for." I told both her and Tess. "Why would you stay, she was going to harm you!" Tess said. "Tess, before you go breaking into werewolf territories learn about them first. This is Viviana Ayers, Epsilon of the U.S and known sadist." I said. Behind me Viviana started laughing, Tess said nothing. "What is so funny?" I asked Viviana. "Me a sadist, oh that's a good one. I'm not a sadist. I just like toying with people." She said. "Uh uh whatever you say." I replied. Viviana came up behind me and pulled me into her. Her mouth came down close to my ear. "Now, Kye what should we do with you lovely friend?" She asked. Tess stood watching the whole exchange, no emotion on her face. 'Why did she follow me? This just made things more complicated!' "Hmm?" Viviana said. Her lips touched my neck and she started trailing them down the my back. "Knock it off Viviana! This isn't the time to be playing around." I scolded. "Your right first we need to do something about the vampire who looks as if she hasn't fed in two months." Viviana said in an unusually serious tone. "I've fed." Tess said in defense. "How many times?" Viviana asked. "...Once."

"None of my wolves will allow her to fed from them. The only coven nearby won't share their donors because they have a bit of a spat with Azarais. There is only on solution I can see." Viviana said. "What?" Tess asked. Viviana raised her hand to the side of my neck and before I could protest she made a long gash across my neck. Blood quickly began to pool and pour out. The red in Tess's eyes became darker and she disappeared. Only to reappear before me. I was trapped between Viviana and Tess. Viviana held me in place as Tess lowered her mouth to my neck. She struck like a cobra, her fangs piercing my neck again making a wound that would be slower to heal. More blood pooled out and a haze took over. Vampire fangs had a drug on them that caused their prey to become compliant. The haze had just finished settling over me when Viviana started playing with me. Right before Tess had stuck I knew she was going to use this for her own benefit. Sadly despite knowing what was going on my body didn't listen to me and I became her obedient little toy. Once Tess had her fill of my blood, she would be hungry in a different way, and I would be a toy to both.

***

When I woke up I had a dull headache and I wasn't sure what had happened. I felt really warm despite the uncomfortableness of the hard wood floor. I opened my eyes and looked around. I was in one of Viviana's chambers, the rooms where she took lovers or enemies or anyone who caught her fancy, and played with them. There was a huge hole in the ceiling and I could make out the first few rays of dawn. Next to me on either side was Viviana and...Tess? Memories from last night played through my mind and my cheeks began to heat. 'What the hell Viviana! I was going to kill her. Next time she wanted to get someone drugged by a vampire she could offer herself up on a silver plater.' I extracted myself from between them. I made my way to the door and froze. I turned back to look at the hole in the ceiling. It wouldn't take long for the sun to finish rising and when it did Tess would have absolutely no protection form the deadly rays. "Fuck!" I went back over to her her and began to try and wake her up. She was dead to the world however, like most vampires were after feeding so close to dawn. I turned to Viviana instead. "Wha?" She asked sleepily. "Wake up or you new little undead toy is going to be crispy next time you wanna play with her." I said. "Kye?what is it?" She said. "Wake up before I kick your naked ass out into the snow!" I said. Viviana sat up and  looked around. She looked like an owl who was awoken from the middle of a nap. "I'm awake ok? Now what?" She said grumpily. I pointed at Tess and than at the hole in the ceiling. "Oh! We should probably move her." Viviana said. "Really?" I asked annoyed. Viviana got up and walked over to a wall she hit something and a section of the wall moved. On the other side was a cell fully equipped with flogs and manacles and other sadistic toys. "Not a sadist?" I asked. "What? They're just for decoration!" She said in defense. "Sure" I said.

Together we were able to move Tess from the floor and onto the bed in the small torture chamber. Viviana locked the cell before she shut the door. "Just I case she wakes up before we let her out? I don't want another hole in my playroom." I shook my head and sat down on the ground. "What are you doing?" She asked. "I'll keep an eye on her." I said. "She'll be fine no one will find her and no light can get in that room. Come on let's go get breakfast. You lost a lot of blood last night and it wasn't exactly restful afterwards." Viviana told me. "I'll be fine." I said stubbornly. "Kye, are you pouting? Don't be mad at me...please?" She said. "Viviana, just go eat something." I said. "Nope, I'm not leaving until you do!" She said. She sat down on the other side of the wall. "What are you five?" I asked. She didn't respond. I sighed in frustration and leaned back against the wall. Slowly I started to fall asleep.

A loud crashing noise woke me up. Viviana was standing by the cell door talking to Tess. Tess however didn't seem to be listening. "Let me out you flea bitten dog?" She yelled. Her eyes were crimson and her fangs were out. I have never seen Tess so pissed. Viviana was standing in front of the cell dangling the key just out of Tess' reach. 'What the hell did Viviana do now?' I stood up and made my way over to the cell. "What the hell is going on?" I asked annoyed by both their antics. Viviana turned around a guilty look flashing across her face. Tess halted her yelling and her eyes turned back to their normal blue. "Well?" I demanded. "The she-wolf won't let me out of this blasted cage!" Tess grumbled. "Well I can't very well have an uninvited guest walking around in the heart of my compound now, can I?" Viviana asked sweetly. "No you can't...however you don't need to be teasing her with the key." I sighed. Viviana was more of a child then the cubs. I grabbed the keys from Viviana and she gave them up without a fight. Turning to look at Tess my glare faded. "Care to explain your presence here?" I asked her. Tess sighed and took a seat in the cage. "After you left I wanted to track you down and bring you back. Master and Raiza decided it would be better however just to let you do as you pleased for now at least." She said. Viviana had to interrupt  before she could finish explaining. "If that's the case why are you trespassing on my territory? I could understand if you had been sent after Kye and I would make allowances but if that's not the case than I -" Viviana broke off when I pinched her arm...hard. She shot me a look but kept her mouth shut. Tess continued as though Viviana said nothing. "A few days after you left odd things started happening around town....at the compound and the manor." This time I interrupted "odd things?" Tess nodded. "Things moving or disappearing , at first it wasn't anything that bad but than one day a chair broke out of no where and a large splinter went flying straight towards master. On of his guards intercepted...it was aimed right at his heart. Similar things apparently happened at the compound to. Corrigan was still alive though when I left but I haven't heard anything from them since I left." I froze. Tess was still talking but I didn't hear a word of it.  What did she mean that Corrigan was still alive last she heard? Why wouldn't Corrigan be alive? "What the hell happened to Corrigan? Tess tell me what is going on back at home!" I demanded. Tess froze and whatever she was say died on her lips. She took in my appearance and she must have noticed how upset I was. "We believe we are being haunted by a poltergeist, Mistress." Tess said. "Oh dear, that is not good at all." Viviana said.

That was the understatement of the year. A poltergeist was a ghost of a supernatural and unlike human. Ghosts they could still move things. They were completely unsubstantial and therefore retaliation was nearly impossible. The only solution to an upset poltergeist was an exorcism which wasn't always possible because it called for the blood of a living descendent. Sometimes reasoning with the poltergeist worked and sometimes if they couldn't exorcise it they could bind it which kept it from moving things. A binding however would only last a few years and if the poltergeist was still mad by than I could be very bad because no one knew for sure when a binding would wear off. My fathers unit only ever had to deal with one poltergeist in all the years her had served but they were lucky and had identified the poltergeist and found a living descendent. Identifying a spirit was always problem because very few people had the ability to see spirits and they were never forthcoming with their name...or talking at all.

"So why are you chasing after me? Poltergeist are dangerous you need the army's help not mine." I stated. "I'm sorry Mistress, but it is the belief of both the coven and the pack that the poltergeist is the spirit of your mother. It has been ordered by both the pack and the coven that I find you and bring you back so that an exorcism may be preformed."
