Eleanor's foot tapped nervously as she was sitting on the couch, waiting for Gilbert's arrival. The clock ticked slowly in the corner, reading "6:08" he was already 8 minutes late, not making a good first impression on her father.

A knock on the door made her leap up, she raced towards the door and swung it open. An out of breath and curly haired Gilbert stood smiling before her, with a bouquet of bright flowers in each of his hands.

"My apologies for being late Mr and Mrs Parks, I was waiting fro the florist to finish these bouquets." Gilbert bowed slightly as he handed a bouquet to each Eleanor and her mother.

"Oh Gilbert, thank you for these! Their lovely." Laura grinned and slipped them into an empty vase.

Eleanor gave Gilbert a small kiss on the cheek before handing the flowers to her mother to go put in a vase as well.

Mr Parks rose from his seat, his large muscular build (and average beer gut) made it's way over to Gilbert. The young boy seemed to coward slightly before clearing his throat and sticking his hand out.

"I'm Gilbert Blythe sir, son of John Blythe." Gilbert stated in a proper well posh accent.

Henry eyed the boy before reaching his hand out and taking the boys, he gave it a firm handshake before nodding towards the couch.

"Eleanor go get us some whiskey from the cabinet, get the top shelf stuff. None of that cheap shit Alvin likes." Henry grumbled as he flopped down onto the couch.

"Yes father." Eleanor nodded before turning away and walking over to the liquor cabinet in the corner of the living room.

She gently poured two glasses and made sure to water Gilbert's down slightly with some water and ice cubes. He was not a big drinker, and she knew he would appreciate the watered down whiskey.

Henry was roaring with laughter as Eleanor turned back around with the two glasses in her hands. She gently sat the two glasses down before them, she pulled out a pack of cigars and set them down with a box of matches.

"Good, now go help your mother with dinner." Henry shooed her off.

"Yes sir, can I get you two anything else while I"m here?" She asked through gritted teeth.

"No girl, go." Henry grumbled before lighting up a cigar and taking a swig from his whiskey.

Eleanor narrowed her eyes at her father before spinning around and starting for the kitchen. Where her mother was setting up the table with the nice china as Alvin was helping pour drinks.

"How is it going? Does he like Gilbert?" Alvin asked as Eleanor gently stirred the pot of mashed potatoes.

"I can't tell, he was laughing at something he said, so I suppose he doesn't mind him." Eleanor shrugged.

"That's a relief." Laura let out a shake sigh before flopping down into one of the dinner chairs.

"He wanted me to come help with dinner." Eleanor stated as she admired all of the steaming and bubbling pots on the stove.

"Well...get out the forks then."

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"So Gilbert, what are you planning on doing to keep up my daughter's high spending skills?" Henry chuckled as he took a bite of his large steak.

Eleanor was watching the plate of food infront of her as her hand was tightly wrapped around her fork, so hard that her knuckles were bright white.

"Well sir, I'm planning on working in the medical field. Being a doctor, to be exact." Gilbert coughed slightly.

"I see...that'll be a good money making profession. I hope that you can keep up the luxury life that my daughter is living in at the moment. I don't know what she would do without me and my money." Henry chuckled.

"I would get a job, father." Eleanor hissed.

"A woman? Working?" Laura stifled a laugh softly.

"Yes mother, working. A woman should have the right to work and have her own money if she chooses, she shouldn't have to rely on a man to keep her afloat." Eleanor stated plainly as she stabbed a potato with her fork and chewed harshly.

"How barbaric! You and that damn feminist shit! I don't want to hear you speak for the rest of dinner with that mess, you hear?" Henry grumbled.

"I hear you loud and clear." Eleanor scoffed.

Gilbert glanced at her from beside him, she looked like steam was about to roll from her ears at any given second. He gently placed his hand on her bouncing knee, she barely stole a glance at him before easing up slightly.

"So...Alvin...how is studies? I fully expect you want to go to college yes?" Henry asked as he took a swig of his whiskey.

"Yes father. I'm planning on attending a college in Sweden." Alvin said plainly.

"I see...and what about you Eleanor? I expect your going to bare Gilbert children first thing out of  school?" Henry asked.

"No, I'm attending college. I'm going to be a nurse, right beside Gilbert. We'll have children when the time is right." Eleanor smirked as her mother softly gasped.

"Damn it Eleanor! You've upset your mother!" Henry growled as he watched Laura sniffle slightly.

"And that's my fault how? I was simply telling you what I was doing out of school! Why should you two be the bearer of my life, I don't even know if I want kids!" Eleanor roared as she slammed her fork down and stood up, knocking her chair back.

"Why can't you just be normal for once? You must always make a scene when a guest is over, not everything is about you!" Henry yelled as he stood as well.

By now, Harvey and Laura were both crying as Alvin tried to calm them down.

"I know that you imbecile! But not everything is about you and what you decide to do with MY life! Can't you just be happy for me for once?" Eleanor let out a shake sigh.

"I'll be happy when you grow up to be the daughter we always wanted. But for now, you're nothing but a disappointment." Henry grumbled as he flopped back into his chair.

Gilbert glanced over at Eleanor, watching as her chest rose and fall in a shaking mess. Tears were rolling down her cheeks and onto her dress, she scoffed and quickly turned and started for the stairs.

"I'll show you, I'll show all of you how much of a disappointment Eleanor Parks can be." she stated before stomping up the stairs.

----------------------------------------------------------------

As soon as the sound of a slamming door was heard upstairs, Gilbert arose from his seat.

"Have a seat boy, no need to get all worried about her. She does this at least once a week." Henry waved him off.

"I-I'm gonna check on her." Gilbert stated.

"I'm sure she's fine." Laura sniffled slightly as he racked the rest of her food off into a compost bin in the corner of the kitchen.

Gilbert glanced at Alvin, he nodded slightly which sent Gilbert starting for the stairs.

He slowly walked up them as he listened for Eleanor, suspecting to hear sniffling or sobs. Only to not hear a thing at all.

"Eleanor?" he whispered, knocking softly on her door.

He slowly creaked the door open, covering his eyes as he waited for Eleanor's "okay" to come in, only for it to not come.

"Eleanor I'm moving my hand now." he stated.

His hand slowly fell from his eyes, his eyes grew used to the darkness as the moonlight shown through the open window.

The lace curtains were blowing softly in the window as it was cracked fully open. His eyes widened as he admired the room around it, it was a mess. Clothes were scattered everywhere, a mirror was shattered on the ground with a drawer sitting idly on the bed.

The dress that Eleanor was wearing at dinner was lying on the ground, along with the rest of her dressing clothes. Meaning she probably changed into pants, leaving her stuff along the floor.

"Eleanor? Eleanor are you in here?" he asked.

No response.

"Tsk Tsk!" the sound sounds of Eleanor's voice was heard.

Gilbert rushed over to the window, sticking his head out of the window as he narrowed his eyes towards the stable near the back of the Park's estate.

Eleanor was snapping the reigns of her horse's reigns, he let out a loud "neigh" before bucking slightly and starting off.

"Eleanor!" Gilbert yelled.

She glanced back at him, the bottom half of her face was covered in what looked like a cloth. She gently blew a kiss before turned back and snapped the reigns again, the horse took off in a fast sprint as she hopped along with him.

Gilbert couldn't think of what to do as he watched his gilfriend ride away on a horse. She hadn't even told him where she was off too as she raced away, the sight of her slowly leaving his horizon.

He fell backwards and flopped onto the floor, staring at his hands before resting his head in them.

"Gilbert? Where's Eleanor?" Alvin's voice made the boy jump.

"She left." he said plainly, still staring at his hands.

"She left? Where did she go? Gilbert where did she go?" Alvin asked as he raced towards the window, narrowing his eyes to try and find her.

"I-I don't know! She just got on her horse and left!" Gilbert sighed.

"Why didn't you try to stop her? She could get hurt!" Alvin yelled.

His eyes narrowed towards the dresser drawer as he raced towards it, flipping through newspaper clippings and letters before he pulled out a small iron item.

"She didn't take the pocket knife...she took her dagger. Shit! She's not coming back on her own Gilbert, we have to find her." Alvin sighed as he collapsed onto her bed.

"How do you expect we do that?" Gilbert asked.

"Anyway we can, she's not as strong as she thinks. She can't do this alone." Alvin sighed and stoup, reaching a hand out towards Gilbert.

The boy looked at the out stretched hand before clasping onto it and hoisting himself up. The two boys nodded before taking off down the stairs, only to see the other half of the family laughing about something.

"Care for a drink boys?" Henry asked as he held up the half empty bottle of whiskey.

"Eleanor is gone, we're going to find her." Alvin stated.

Laura gasped as Henry rolled his eyes before chugging the rest of his whiskey.

"She does this all the time, she'll be back in the morning, begging for forgiveness. Just leave it boys." Henry shrugged and poured himself more drink.

"She didn't take the knife, she took the dagger." Alvin sighed.

Henry coughed slightly before thinking, he shrugged once against before going back to his drink.

Alvin scoffed before walking over to the door, Gilbert quickly followed before the two hurried out and towards the stables.

"You know you're going to have to tell me about this "dagger" right? Because I'm lost." Gilbert chuckled.

"I'll tell you on the way, I have a thought of where she went." Alvin stated as he pulled out two sets of reigns and tossed one to Gilbert.

He nodded and quickly laced up a horse before climbing on, Alvin was waiting for him before the two took off in the direction Gilbert pointed in.

"We'll bring her home." Gilbert thought aloud.
