Chapter 148
Julia couldnât comprehend why the Lauriers not only didnât get furious but they also doted on Lily when, in fact, Shannon was supposed to be engaged to Loid in the first place.
âMrs. Goldberg, you and your family may leave if there isnât anything else. Loid is still sleeping, and I wouldnât want anyone to disturb him.â Melanie peered at Julia coldly. She sat down with a shuttered expression.
Stefan had been silent. Given the Martinez familyâs status, he didnât see the need to engage in a conversation with them.
âWeâll take our leave then,â Joha said, nodding politely at Melanie. She left promptly with her family.
None of the Martinezes managed to speak except for Julia
Withdrawing her gaze after they left, Melanie snorted, âTheir nerve to brag about their measly schemes in front of me! Never once did they treat Lilly well. Yet, now theyâre trying to use her name to gain an investment from us. That is some wishful thinking!
Stefan peeled an orange for her and chimed in, âDonât get yourself worked up. Even Lily isnât affected.â
âHow do you know sheâs unaffected?â Melanie scowled at him. âSheâs used to masking herself with indifference, but deep down sheâs still very fragile. As her motherâinâlaw, T wonât let anyone take advantage of her!â
Stefan remained silent and shook his head. Seemingly lost in thought, Melanie suddenly jerked her head up and exclaimed solemnly, âIâve decided!â
âWhat have you decided?â Stefan glanced at her, wondering what tricks she had up her sleeve now.
âIâm going to host a banquet to publicly announce my daughterâinâlawâs identity!â
Melanie was resolute. She immediately whisked her phone out, but Stefan stopped her just as she was about to inform her acqu
acquaintances in Bridgeport.
Flabbergasted, Stefan said, âYou should host a banquet at the right time. Whatâs the point of hosting a banquet now when Loid hasnât recovered yet?â
Loadâs eyes suddenly few open Rousing from sleep, he said, âJust do as Mom says. Host a banquetâ
He hadnât fallen into a deep slumber since people had been talking in his ward. He just couldnât be bothered to open his eyes since Lily wasnât around.
Melanie chortled. âSee? Even Loid supports my decision.â
Eventually, Stefan was convinced. âDo as you wish.â
âItâs not as daunting as you think, Lily mentioned the poison in Loidâs system will be completely resolved in ten days. Most of his injuries wouldâve been recovered by then. We should seize the opportunity to host the banquet then.
Winking at Loid, Melanie continued, âIâm not just doing this for Lilyâitâs for Loidâs sake as well. Given her superb medical skiâs, Thet sheâll have lots of suitors if we donât keep ber. What if someone wins her over instead?â
Stefan pondered for a moment and nodded. âThat makes sense.
âSo, we must quickly reveal Lilyâs identity. Even if someone wants to pursue her, theyâd have to consider whether they could afford to offend the Laurier family,â Melanie looked smug, marveling at her own brilliance
âYouâre right!â Loid nodded.
Lily was truly stubborn, so heâd have to hold her close to him. Otherwise, she would elude him once he let his guard down. Heâd suffer a great less then.
