Chapter 188
âGo ahead.â John glanced at Lily and hesitated for a moment, but he didnât reject her request.
She was the one that brought Class 18 to the top. He didnât have a reason not to let her take the call. That was a privilege she rightfully deserved.
Lily went to the washroom. She turned on a voice changer before she took the call. âSpeak.â
âThe Weiss family will be auctioning the Crimson Leaf on Saturday. When are you coming to Bridgeport? Iâll go get you.â Elliotâs voice was a little cold.
Lily frowned. âWhy so sudden?â
Saturday? That was in two more days.
âThis is the latest information. A while ago, someone went to the Weiss Residence and tried to take the Crimson Leaf from them. They didnât want to hold on to it anymore, so they decided to auction it off.â
âUnderstood. Iâll head to Bridgeport tomorrow.â
Lily hung up and went to the principalâs office.
âMr. Woodley.â Lily walked into the office and greeted Joseph politely.
Joseph got up frantically and said, âCome. Take a seat.â
Lily nodded and sat down across from Joseph.
âWhy have you come to me at this hour? Is something wrong?â Joseph asked gently as he poured out a glass of water for Lily.
Lily had been a student of Ember Creek High School for over two months. Before that, she had only come to the principalâs office once, which was during the first day of school.
âI want to take a few days off school,â Lily said slowly.
âYou only need to speak to your homeroom teacher about it. Thereâs no need to talk to me about that, right?â Joseph asked in confusion.
âThereâs another thing I want to talk about.â Lily pursed her lips in hesitation.
Joseph looked at her and said, âJust tell me if you need anything. Iâll help you however I can.â
Lily had never asked him for any favors before. It was probably something quite tricky for her to come to him and ask.
Lily lowered her head in thought for a moment. Then, she said, âYouâve mentioned before that the head of the Weiss family owes you a favor, right?â
âThatâs right.â Joseph nodded. âThatâs something that happened over a decade ago. Why are you bringing it up now?â
âThe Weiss family is having an auction for the Crimson Leaf tomorrow. Can you please call in the favor and ask them what the starting bid for the Crimson Leaf is?â
Josephâs expression turned solemn. âYouâre taking time off from school to participate in the auction in Bridgeport?â
âYeah.â Lily nodded.
âLily, I can help you with anything else, but I canât do anything for you when it comes to this.â
Joseph fell silent for a while before adding, âThis is the only Crimson Leaf in the world. Itâs not only those people in Bridgeport that are after it. Even people from the Hidden Families have their eyes on it.â
After another pause, he said, âI can tell you right now that even if the Weiss family tells you the starting bid right now, the final price will still be way higher, you know?â
Lily frowned as she tapped her fingers on the table. âSo you mean this incident is linked to the Hidden Families?â
âThatâs right. The public only knows that the Weiss family is trying to auction off the Crimson Leaf because theyâre having cash flow issues.
âWhat they donât know is that the Hidden Families have been interested in the Crimson Leaf for quite some time. They basically strongâarmed the Weiss family into auctioning the Crimson Leaf.â
Joseph took a sip and said with a grim expression, âThe Weiss family wants everything to be handled publicly. That way, the Hidden Families will vie for the Crimson Leaf among themselves.
âSo, itâs not that I donât want to help you. I canât. This matter isnât just about the Weiss family.â
Joseph stood up and patted Lily on the shoulder. âYou may not know this yet, but the Four Great Families are in turmoil right now.â Hidden Families.
They are also not under the control of the
âSo, the hidden families want to help bring less prominent families into power. Things are very messy in Bridgeport. You shouldnât go if you donât need to go.â Lily stayed silent for a bit before saying, âI understand. Thanks, Mr. Woodley.â
