Chapter 23
Lilyâs tolerance toward the Martinez family stemmed from their connection to Jason Martinez. However, this didnât mean she would endure their behavior indefinitely. =)
Her grandmother was the one person she wouldnât tolerate anyone messing with If anyone dared to lay a finger on her, she would make them regret ever being born no matter who they were!
Upstairs, Melanie insisted that Loid take off his clothes for inspection.
To her astonishment, she discovered that all the lumps on his body were gone. She was speechless.
Melanieâs eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at Loid. âWâWhatâs going on here? Whoâs the famous doctor who cured you?
Loid dressed slowly, glancing ar Melanie with a hint of a smile as he said, âYour future daughterâinâLaw.â
Melanie exclaimed with a voice filled with disbelief. âThatâs impossible!â
Lily was just a 19âyearâold young lady who hadnât even graduated from college. How could she possibly cure Loidâs illness?
Moreover, it wasnât an ordinary illnessâit was poisoning
Countless renowned doctors had failed to find an antidote, so how could a young girl like Lily figureit out?
After realizing that Leid wasnât jong, Melanie took a deep breath. Her brows furrowed in contemplation. âIsnât this little girl just a simple country bumpkin?
âNo,â Loid replied. He hadnât made any particular effort to investigate Lily. His knowledge of Lily was mostly based on the information Daniel had gathered upon discovering that the Martinez family intended to arrange her marriage with Loid. However, the details he had were only superficial
Lilyâs identity had been carefully concealed by someone with impressive skills.
Even with Danielâs abilities, it seemed impossible for him to have missed the fact that Lily was Shadowbaneâs apprentice.
While Lilyâs background needed further investigation, Loid refrained from asking Daniel to look into it.
He wasnât interested in prying into certain aspects of her life. Despite her hostility, there wasnât any malice behind it, so he believed there was no need for him to investigate. Melanieâs expression turned serious. âThen why did she save you? Was it premeditated?â.
âI donât know,â Loid said as he raised his eyes to look at Melanie. âI thought you really liked her.â
âYes, I do,â Melanie admitted her fondness for Lily without hesitation. âSheâs genuine and unpretentious. Iâm very pleased with her.â
In Melanieâs social circle, everyone seemed eager to please her. It was rare to find someone who could disregard her status and engage in genuine conversation.
However, Lily was different since her arrival, Lily had displayed no effort to please Melanie and consistently maintained a calm demeanor. Despite her polite tone, Melanie sensed an underlying impatience in Lily.
As Lilyâs future motherâinâlaw, Melanie was immediately drawn to Lilyâs straightforwardness and lack of pretense. Melanie concluded from this alone that Lily did not behave like those wealthy young women who were always scheming to please others for personal gain.
âWhile I adore her, I canât help but worry if youâve somehow offended her and sheâs come seeking revenge.â
Melanie was not one to overlook things. Despite her fondness for Lily, her sonâs wellâbeing remained her top priority.
Melanie had unwavering confidence in Loidâs captivating looks. She knew that most women couldnât resist his charm. To Melanieâs surprise, Lily proved to be an exception
From the moment Lily arrived, Melanie noticed she hadnât glanced at Loid once. Shannon, on the other hand, couldnât resist glancing at him every now and then.
Loid narrowed his eyes and said, âItâs possible.â
âWhat should we do now? Melanie panicked
âSheâs my lancéeâ Loid smirked.
Upon hearing this, Melanie chuckled âWell played â
A flancfe could eventually become a legal
