As soon as Lily finished speaking, an oppressive silence fell over the car.

Loid turned his head slightly to glance at Lily before slowly withdrawing his gate. His thin lips were pursed, and his expression was unreadable.

Shaun’s brows furrowed as he took a moment to process what he had heard. “Poisoned? Are you joking?

Lily raised an eyebrow, giving Shan a look that clearly implied he was an idiot.

Shawn remained silent, unsure of how to respond

Once again, he felt Lily’s disdainful gaze directed at him.

“Who would joke about their own grandmother?” Daniel looked at Shaun as if he were an idiot.

Although they hadn’t known Lily for long and had never heard her mention anything about the Martinez family or her grandmother, all three of them could sense that Lily cared deeply for her grandmother.

And the fact that Lily was unable to neutralize the poison indicated that it was far deadlier than the Bloodbane poison. The situation was already bizarre enough, so why would he be considered foolish for thinking that Lily was joking?

Ignoring the stares of the other three people in the car, Shaun beaned forward and asked Lily, “What kind of poison is that powerful?”

“Mindshroud poison,” Lily murmured, her voice devoid of any emotion.

A sharp screech of tires filled the air as the car abruptly came to a halt. As soon as Lily finished speaking, Daniel slammed on the brakes, turning his head in shock. Instinctively, Shaun turned to Loid. His jaw dropped, and he was unable to utter a single word.

As Loid turned to Lily, his stern expression softened, but his brows farrowed tightly. None of them spoke. The tension in the air was thick and heavy.

Amidst the tense silence, Lily remained composed. Lily continued to scroll through her phone. Her demeanor was as calm as if she’d just mentioned something trivial.

After an agonizing three minutes, Loid averted his gaze and took Lily’s hand in a tight grip He said gently. “Let’s go.”

Daniel hurriedly turned his head and started driving Shaun also turned around. His gaze was fixed on the outside of the car, his heart pounding wildly Loid didn’t ask Lily anything else. He leaned back in his seat, lost in quiet contemplation

Suddenly, Lily felt his hand grasp hers. Lost in thought for a moment, she hated her gaze to catch Loid’s profile Sunlight streamed through the car window, illuminating his well- defined features. His face resembled a flawless sculpture.

Her hand felt warm in his grasp.

Loid didn’t speak, but a subtle change in his grip spoke volumes. Lily felt a surge of reassurance. It was as if he had promised to protect her.

Lily lowered her gaze. She had a hand pressed against the car window. Her eyes narrowed, the light catching them as they shifted from brightness to darkness.
