Chapter 28
Susanâs expression froze momentarily, but she quickly regained her composure and smiled. âNo, we can afford it. Itâs only 20 thousand a month. Itâs not a big deal.â
Lily gave her a sidelong glance before tuming and opening the door to the ward. She called over a nurse, then reached into her pocket and pulled out a card. Handing it to the nurse, she instructed, âIâd like to pay for a yearâs treatment.â
As she pulled out her card, Loidâs pupils constricted. A hint of amusement graced his previously cold demeanor.
Shaunâs eyes widened in disbelief. It was a black card. This card was globally limited, held only by individuals with assets worth at least a few billion dollars,
âWow, Lily is something else! She even has a black card!â Shaun thought
She was no ordinary country bumplin; she was a hidden billionaire.
Lilyâs gaze darted toward the group before she calmly looked away. In truth, the black card was given to her by someone else. Years ago, she cured a wealthy man and charged a betty so mition for her services. Over time, she deposited all the money she eamed onto this card
Lily had never checked the balance on the card, nor did she know the exact amount. However, she was certain it was at least a few billion dollars.
This was just an estimate. If she were to check the balance, the actual amount would likely be even higher.
The nurse returned with the bill in a flash. She handed the card back to Lily with a newfound respect in her eyes. âMs. Brooks, this is your card. Please keep it safe.â
The nurse had never seen a black card before. While processing the payment, her colleague informed her that the owner of such a card had a net worth of at least a few billion dollars. This revelation left the nurse taken aback.
She had been specially assigned to this VIP ward, so she always feared she might make a mistake and upset the wealthy patient.
âThank you,â Lily politely replied as she took back the card.
Susan had no idea that Lily was holding a black card. With her limited exposure to the world of the elite doe to her social status, Susan was only familiar with debit cards and credit cards. She had never even heard of a black card, and Liam had never mentioned it to her either.
When Lily pulled out the black card to pay, Susanâs first instinct was to assume that Loid had given it to her. It triggered immediate envy.
Within two days of Lily moving into Anmer Heights, Loid had given her a card. Susan thought his generosity was astounding. She was unaware of the cardâs balance, but she knew that Belindaâs medical expenses amounted to a staggering 4.8 million.
Despite the hefty sum, Lily had paid it without hesitation, and Loid hadnât even flinched.
Susanâs thoughts churned with regret. If Shannon had married Loid, given Shannonâs capabilities, she could have easily inherited at least a hundred million before his death. Instead, she gave the best bachelor to Lily. This would only embolden that wretched Lily. Susan would never allow such a thing to happen.
After a moment of silence, Susan walked over to Loid with a smile and said, âLoid, thereâs no need for you to worry about the medical expenses. My family can afford it.
âIt wouldnât be good for Lilyâs reputation if word got out that youâre covering her grandmotherâs medical bills, especially since you two arenât married yet.â
Loid raised an eyebrow. He looked at Susan with a faint smile. âYouâre rightâ
Susan sighed in relief. âThen Iâll call Liam and tell him to refund the money to you.â
Lold chuckled, amusement flickering in his voice. âI didnât pay for anything, so why would 1 ask for a refund He stood beside Lily, his expensive attire accentuating his air of refinedelegance and composure.
Susan was taken aback. âBut didnât you just pay for the medical expenses?â she asked, confusion lacing her voice.
Shaun couldnât help but burst into laughter. âAre you really clueless or pretending to be? The card belongs to Lily. Loid didnât give her a penny.â
Susan turned to Lily in disbelief. âWhat? Itâs your card?â
How was this possible?
It was over four million.
That was not a small sum
Lily was just a country bumpkin. Where could she have gotten so much money from?
