Chapter 32
That was why when Susan approached her, Lily agreed without hesitation to come to Lagersfield
Upon her arrival, she used her hacking skills to investigate the entry and exit records of all personnel at the particular bureau for the past two decades. Strangely, she found no record of her father ever entering the premises.
Her father seemed to have never existed in this world.
She couldnât believe that a living person could just vanish without a trace. Despite her grandmotherâs disapproval, she was determined to get to the bottom of this mystery.
Lily accompanied Belinda for a while, gently tacking the blanket around her before leaving the ward.
Meanwhile, Loid headed to the doctorâs office
Belindaâs doctor had just finished surgery, but when he heard Loid was waiting, he rushed over without a momentâs pause.
âMr. Laurier.â Winston Barrett stood beside Lold with a hint of nervousness.
Loid sat casually in the chair, his gaze so intense that Winston couldnât meet his eyes.
With a curt nod, Loid lifted his head and said politely, âSit down, Donât be nervous, I just have a few questions.
In just a short while, Winstonâs face was covered in sweat. He sat respectfully next to Loid and mumbled, âPlease ask away.â
âShow me Belinda Hutchinsonâs treatment plan.â Loid leaned back in his chair, his long fingers tapping rhythmically on the desk as he spoke slowly.
Winston was taken aback. Belinda Hutchinson? Wasnât she one of his patients? Did Loid low her?
Winstonâs body immediately tensed up, and his expression was filled with anxiety. âApologies, Mr. Laurier. Belindaâs condition is quite unique, and we havenât yet developed. treatment plan.â
Loid narrowed his eyes. A chilling air emanated from him as he uttered, âNo treatment plan?â
Winston shivered as the ky tone in Loldâs voice sent shivers down his spine. âItâs because we canât find the cause of her illness,â he explained hurriedly.
âAll her organs are aging rapidly. Weâve done tests, and itâs not natural aging. It should be poison, but we havenât been able to identify it yet. For now, we can only suppress it with the special antidote from the Medical Research Institute.ââ
*No wonder Elly sent her grandmother to this hospital in the city center,â Shaun mused, stroking his chin. âItâs the only one with the research instituteâs special antidote.â
Shaun paused, suspicion flickering in his eyes as he looked at Lold. âBut her pills can suppress the poison, right? Why does she still need the special antidote?â
He had clearly seen Lily feed Belinda two pills earlier.
With her medical skills, suppressing the poison shouldnât be an issue. Yet, she was still shelling out a fortune for the research instituteâs special antidote. That was a bit unusual
Loidâs eyes narrowed in contemplation. After a moment, he looked up and said, âThis can only mean that her pills arenât very effective against the Mindshroud poison.â
He stood up, his tall and slender frame creating a commanding presence. His intense gaze focused sharply, narrowing with purpose. âHas anyone else used the special antidote?â Winston shook his head. âNot yet. Itâs extremely expensive, and most people canât afford it,â he explained.
With acurt nod and a polite tone, Lold addressed Winston, âAlright, thank you for your attention to this matter.â
Winston was taken aback by Loidâs unexpected appreciation. âYouâre welcome, Mr. Laurier. Itâs my duty,â he replied.
His expression then turned serious as he said, âHowever, these special antidotes are rare, and the Medical Research Institute only provides a small amount each month. Iâm worried that â
Loid tucked his hands casually into his pockets. âJust focus on treating the patients wholeheartedly, Iâll provide the medicine,â he said nonchalantly
Leaving her grandmotherâs ward, Lily navigated the hallway toward Winstonâs office as she wanted an update on the treatment. She paused at the door. Her eyebrows arched subtly, a flicker of intrigue crossing her dark eyes as she overheard Loidâs conversation
After a moment of hesitation, Lily stepped inside.
Dr. Barrett, Lily said, her voice soft and respectful yet tinged with assertiveness. âIâm sorry to trouble you again about my grandmother.â
âNo trouble at all. Itâs my duty,â Winston replied with a smile.
Lily had been standing with Loid since she arrived, and now she was mentioning her grandmother, Winston immediately grasped the situation
