As Shannen rushed over, she deliberately knelt right under Julia’s cane. Startled by the sudden movement, Julia couldn’t stop her swing in time and the cane accidentally struck Shannon’s face.

Julia quickly stopped and pulled Shannen up. “Shannon, you silly child, why would you rush out like that? Come here, let me see where you’re hurt.”

Shannon buried her face in her hands, shaking her head and sobbing “Grandma, I’m fine. I just can’t bear to see Mom being punished”

Julia was startled “Mrs. Laurier is in Lagersfield?”

Shannon nodded. “Yes, she came the day after we moved in. She’s very fond of Lily.
