When Anya left the cafeteria, she was still in a state of shock.

Dan and Sean followed Lily out in silence. lan took a peek at Lily, trying to read her expression. He had expected her to be anxious or even afraid.

To his surprise, she was not. Her face was icy, and her back was straight. She looked proud.

“Thank you.” Anya finally snapped out of her trance. She lowered her head and said in a small voice, “But you shouldn’t have…”

With a sigh, she dropped the rest of the sentence and asked, “What should we do? Jack will come after you. Maybe we should tell the teachers.”

Lily was texting Loid. When she heard Anya, she lifted her head. “Why should we do that?

She had been preoccupied with sending a text earlier, so she missed the first part of Anya’s words.

“At the very least, the teachers will defend you. We really can’t afford to cross Jack. I don’t want to get you into trouble.” Anya’s expression was grim. Lold had replied to Lily Lily dipped her head and typed out a few words quickly: “Get a few bodyguards to protect my grandma. I’ll cover the cost” After sending the message, Lily put her phone away. She set her cold eyes on Anya’s face. Her stare made Anya uneasy.

“W–What is it?” Anya assumed she had attended Lily somehow. She immediately grew nervous

After staring at Anya for a while, Lily suddenly grinned. “Let’s go, I protect you from now on!

Anya’s heart instantly warmed. She looked up at Lily’s face, which was bathed in sunlight. Lily was stunning.

Despite her earlier anxiety, Anya felt cellewed for some reason. She believed Lily would be alright.

Nearby, lan rubbed his forehead in exasperation after hearing Lily’s bold words. He gave her a gentle reminder.

“Do you know how powerful Bridgeport’s Dalton family is? You paralyzed Jack’s leg today. They really will make you pay for it with your entire family’s life. You can’t stand seeing

a fellow student being bullied, but have you considered how the fallout will be too much for you to handle?

Lily tilted her head up. She looked at fan, her expression somewhat devilish. “So he’s got money and power. And that’s why you just watch as other students get bulled?”

Jan’s face flushed. He dipped his head, embarrassed. “Twant to help too, but the Flescher family is completely outmatched by the Dalton family”

Lily let out a chuckle and ignored him. Pulling Anya along, she turned and wallord away.

Looking at her back, Lan felt deeply conflicted

Lily promptly tested back: “Bridgeport’s Dalton family.”

That message took Lily by surprise. She smiled, then returned her phone to her pocket.

The incident in the cafeteria that afternoon quickly became known throughout Ember Creek. Even the Head of Student Affairs, Corvina Frias, was alerted.

In the Student Affairs Office, Corvina heard the report from a student. She rubbed her temples and asked, “Where is Jack Dalton right now?”

“He’s at the hospital,” the student answered honestly. “According to the doctor, his leg is most likely irreparable.”
