Chapter 76
âFuck off.â Lily didnât want to talk to the idiot that was lan.
Anya stared at her phone in silence for a while. Then, she put her phone back in her pocket and looked at Lily. âShall we go have lunch?â
Lily raised her eyebrows. âYou donât want to go to the concert?â
Anya laughed bitterly. âI want to, but I canât.â
âWhy not?â Lily stuck her hands in her pocket as she followed Anya out of the classroom.
lan followed them.
âI donât have the money,â Anya said.
She was from a poor village. Her parents worked very hard just to send her to school. She didnât want to use their money for a concert.
Lily glanced at her, pursing her lips without saying anything.
They arrived at the cafeteria and sat down to eat. Halfway through their meal, Jack approached them with his tray. He stood beside Lily somewhat reverently. âMay I sit with you, Ms, Brooks?â
From the moment Jack approached Lily, everyoneâs eyes were on them. They didnât know that Jackâs leg had healed, so they were all surprised to see him up and about. Some of them thought that Jack was trying to make trouble for Lily again.
After all, they all knew that an arrogant scion like Jack would never apologize to anyone of his own accord, especially not to someone who had humiliated him and crippled his leg. He wouldnât rest until he got his revenge.
They thought that heâd been forced to apologize to Lily that day. Now, they were all waiting for a show.
However, when they saw Jack just standing respectfully beside Lily with no sign of getting angry, they were all shocked. Lily looked up and saw Anya slightly curling up into herself from fear. She frowned. âGo sit over there. Youâre scaring my friend.â.
âOh, okay.â Jack did as he was told obediently.
lan watched all this happen dazedly. Then, he gave Lily a thumbsâup. âGood job!â
There were only so many people who could make Jack so meek. Seeing this, the other students lowered their heads, too scared to meet Lilyâs eyes.
She was terrifying. They didnât want to cross her.
After lunch, Lily and her friends left the cafeteria. Jack followed them out hurriedly.
This time, he went up to Anya and lowered his head deferentially. âAnya, Iâm sorry for everything Iâve done to you in the past. I hope you can forgive me.â
âHuh?â Anya had not expected this, so she was confused.
Lily and lan stood beside her silently.
Jack glanced at Lily before continuing, âIâm willing to compensate you for any physical or mental harm that Iâve done to you. Or you can treat me the way I used to treat you if you want. I wonât retaliate.â
Anya finally came back to her senses, but she still didnât dare to meet Jackâs gaze. âThereâs no need for any compensation. Iâll forgive you.â
Jack breathed a sigh of relief. âThank you.â
Lily did not say anything. She just pulled Anya along with her and left.
lan followed them. âLily, why is Jack so scared of you?â he asked in a low voice.
Lily looked up and smiled coldly. âProbably because Iâm not a good person.â
Anya stopped. âYou are a good person!â she said earnestly.
Lily laughed and patted Anya on the head. âYouâre dumb.â
Anya was confused.
Was she dumb?
Lily was a good person. She wasnât wrong. Before she could say anything else, Lily walked away.
