Chapter 78
Susan hadnât wanted to address Belinda as âMom,â but she had no choice. She had to swallow her pride in order to get into the ward.
âIâm sorry for neglecting Lily. Iâm really trying to compensate her for that. What I said that day was said out of a fit of anger. Sheâs still my daughter, after all.â
Inside the ward, Belinda heard the commotion outside.
She didnât want to see Belinda. After Lily had lost her temper last time, she was worried about how Lily would react if Susan did something bad to her again. She didnât care about Susan, but she cared about Lily. She didnât want Lily to get arrested because of Belinda.
After a momentâs hesitation, she got out of bed and opened the door to the ward.
She looked at the crowd of people gathered outside, then said to the bodyguards, âThanks for your work. You can let them in. I know them.â
The bodyguards glanced at each other before letting Julia and the others in. However, as soon as they got in, one of the bodyguards called Loid.
âMr. Laurier, some people from the Martinez family are here to visit Ms. Brooksâs grandmother. Madam Hutchinson allowed them inside. I couldnât stop them.â
âAlright.â Loid hung up immediately after that.
In the ward, Belinda settled on the bed and pointed to the small couch at the side. âMake yourself comfortable.â
Julia did not sit down. She went up to the bed and took Belindaâs hand with a concerned expression. â Belinda, Iâm sorry that I only found time to visit you now! How do you feel?â
Belinda took her hand back impassively. âDonât worry yourself about this. Iâm just the same; right on deathâs doorstep.â
âDonât say that, Belinda. Youâre still young,â Julia said with a kind smile. Anyone who didnât know better wouldâve been fooled by her kind expression. âJust let me know if you need anything. Iâll help you in way I can.â
Ever since Susan threw a tantrum at the hospital, Belinda had lost all pleasant feelings toward her. Naturally, she wouldnât be fooled by Juliaâs act.

She smiled. âIâm old. What could I need at my age? Donât worry about me. Lily will help me if I really need anything.â
âSheâs just a child. She wonât be able to help you much Julia said as she patted Belindaâs hand. âJust let her focus on her studies so that she can get into a good college in the future.â
Belinda gave her a look, a faint smile on her face. âMrs. Martinez Senior, what do you want? You canât be here just to visit me, judging by how many people you brought. Just say what you want straight.â
Julia stiffened, but her expression didnât change. âSharp as ever, Belinda. Yes, weâre here because we have a favor to ask of you.â
She fell silent for a moment before continuing, âWeâd like to ask if you could convince Lily to allow Shannon to go back to Anmer Heights.â
âSorry, I canât help you with that. This is Lilyâs own decision to make. Plus, Anmer Heights doesnât belong to Lily. She canât decide that either,â Belinda said, her expression grave.
Sheâd always known that the Martinez family werenât good people. This just proved her right. They were all scheming against Lily.
âYouâre Lilyâs grandmother. Sheâll listen to you. She just has to talk to Loid and itâll be done,â Julia said with a smile.
âSorry, I canât help you.â Belinda didnât want to continue talking to her anymore, so she said bluntly, âI need
to rest. Please leave now.â
Juliaâs expression darkened. She couldnât believe that Belinda, a poor village woman, would talk to her like that.
She stood up, the smile disappearing from her face. âYou and Lily came to Lagersfield with nothing to your name. We helped you get the help you needed from the hospital, and we never mistreated Lily. And now, you wonât even help us with such a small thing?â
