Chapter 79
Belinda laughed at that.
âMrs. Martinez Senior, I may be old, but my memory still serves me well. I know for a fact that Lily was the one who paid for my hospital bills. That has nothing to do with the Martinez family.â
Julia paused for a moment. Turning to Susan, she asked, âWhat is she talking about?â
Susan trembled slightly. âWe used the card Loid gave Lily, Mom.â
Susan still didnât believe that Lily would have that much money. She thought that the card belonged to Loid, so she never mentioned it to the rest of the Martinez family.
âWhy didnât you tell me?â Julia glared at Susan.
Susan lowered her head and kept quiet.
Julia ignored her and turned back to Belinda. âSince weâre being honest here, Iâll stop beating about the bush. We told Lily to marry Loid in Shannonâs place because we thought Shannon was too young for marriage. However, Shannon has matured a lot lately, so Lily doesnât need to sacrifice herself anymore.â
She paused for a moment and continued, âAs you know, Loud wanted to marry Shannon in the first place. Even though he has accepted Lily for now, it doesnât mean that he likes her. You know how Lily is. He might think sheâs interesting now, but what about the future?â
Belinda thought for a moment. âThis is between the two of them. I donât want to get involved.â
âI can see that you love Lily a lot. But if you really love her, you should think about her future. Loid is not meant for her. You know very well that your family background is far beneath his. Sheâs just going to humiliate herself by marrying him. Do you really want her to face all that scorn from the Laurier family?â Belinda pursed her lips without answering.
Julia smiled. âIâm doing this for the good of both our families, Belinda. And also so that Lily wouldnât get hurt in the long run. What do you say?â
âEven if I agree, Lily wouldnât,â Belinda said, wavering.
She had only met Loid once. She didnât know him at all. She was also worried that Lily would get hurt.
âSheâll listen to you. She cares about you a lot,â Julia said.
Belinda hesitated, then nodded. âAlright, Iâll talk to her But not for your sake. Iâm doing this for her. Also, you donât need to come visit me anymore. We donât need to see each other,â she said, politely indicating that they should leave.
Now that she had gotten what she wanted, Julia had no reason to stay any longer. She left with the rest of the Martinez family.
At the entrance of the hospital, Liam finally spoke up, Mom, why are you insisting on Shannon marrying Loid? Also, Lily may be a little badâtempered, but she never did anything to us. Why canât you just leave her be?â
Julia snorted. âWhat the hell do you know? Lilyâs a brat. We canât fix her. But sheâs also very pretty, so if she stays by Loidâs side for any longer, he might fall in love with her. We need to get Shannon into Anmer Heights as soon as we can so that it doesnât happen.â
âDonât you care about Shannonâs future? What are people going to think about her when they find out that sheâs seducing her sisterâs fiancé?â
er
Julia had always been the decisionâmaker for the Martinez family. She had full veto power over every decision. No one else could say anything against her.
Liam had always opposed the plan of letting Lily marry Loid in Shannonâs place, but his objections had gone unheard.
He just hadnât expected Julia to go so far in her bid for a marriage alliance with the Laurier family. She was really willing to do just about anything to get what she wanted.
