Chapter 96
Every time Lily was with Melanie, she felt relaxed and at home.
Melanie held Lily by the hand, saying, âCome on in! She treated Lily like her own daughter, seemingly forgetting about her son.
Loid was speechless and amused at the sight.
Lily spotted a man in the living room. She greeted him politely, âHi, Stefan.â
She recognized him from the files as Loldâs father, Stefan.
Stefan Laurier nodded warmly at her. âTake a seat and relax. Make yourself at home.â
She grunted and joined him on the couch while Melanie went to the kitchen to make hunch. Stefan placed the newspaper on the coffee table and shot Loid an astonished look He heard from Melanie that their future daughterâinâlaw was in charge of Loidâs medical treatments, but he had some lingering concerns before seeing Loid in person.
Now that he confirmed that Loid was doing well, he felt more reassured. He turned to Lily, asking, âI heard you go to Ember Creek How is it so far? Is it stressful?â âItâs alright,â she replied curtly with a humble and calm attitude.
Stefan nodded in satisfaction and poured her a glass of water. âI heard from Melanie that youâre treating Loidâs illness. Sorry for the trouble. Just come to me if you need any help.â âNo trouble at all. He paid me,â Lily answered, looking up at Stefan.
He smiled. âWell, Iâll thank you on Loidâs behal
He finally understood the reason Melanie praised Lily to the heavens. The girl was indeed a unique personality.
âLunch is ready,â Melanie announced.
Lold led Lily to the dining table. Melanie, after laying out the final dish, settled beside Lily. She cut a slice of steak and placed it on Lilyâs plate. âGive it a taste.â Then, she stared at Lily nervously
Lily book a bite of the steak and commented, âItâs delicious.â
Looking visibly relieved, Melanie piled more food onto Lilyâs plate. She urged, âJoin us for lunch the next time. Youâre too thin, and you need more protein. Iâll keep you wellâfed.â Lily had nothing to say to that. Melanie only had eyes on Lily, smiling all the time and ignoring the presence of her husband and son. Stefan and Loid could only lament the special treatment accorded to the Lauriers future daughterâinâlaw.
After the pleasant lunch, Melanie had a chat with Lily as Stefan and Lold looked on in silence
Soon, Melanie noticed Lilyâs low mood. She inquired, âDid something happen to you at school?â
âNo,â Loy answered in a faint, disinterested voice.
Melanie pur on a stem look. âYou donât look fine. You seem upset. Let me know if anything has happened to you. If youâre bullied at school, Tâll go teach those rascals a lesson!â That elicited a chuckle from Lily. âIâm really fine. Iâm just bothered by the parentâteacher conference. As you know, my grandma is still in the hospital.â
Melanieâs chest tightened. She was aware of Lillyâs background. She was abandoned at a young age and raised by her grandma.
Now, Belinda was hospitalized. As for Susan, Melanie snorted, thinking, âIber Susan will only attend the conference for Shannon! Poor Lily
After ging it some thought, she patted the back of Lilyâs hand. âItâs not a big deal. Iâll attend as your parent.â
Lily looked at Melanie with an arched brow. âYou?â
âYeah! As your future motherâinâlaw, Iâm considered your parent too. Why canât attend? Melanie sounded confident
Asmier
@ crept onto Loidâs lips. Melanie appeared to be really fond of her future daughterâinâlaw.
Lily smiled at Melanie and agreed to it because she found it hard to turn down Melanieâs zealous offer.
