Chapter 28

Falling for the Mafia Brothers1,062 words~6 min read

A few weeks passed, and it got easier for Kyle. She still missed being with Dimitri, but she had Max and Viktor to occupy her mind and time.

Tonight was the night she was leaving to either meet her father or have a word put out that she wanted to meet him.

Kyle was nervous and didn’t know what she was getting herself into, but she knew Max and Dimitri would keep her safe.

“Are you ready, little bee?”

“I guess. I’m really nervous. What if something happens?”

“We will deal with whatever happens when the time comes. Dimitri and I will be there.” Max kissed her and led her out to the car.

Dimitri was already in the car waiting for them, and Kyle didn’t know what to say, so she acted like she would have if he were someone else. She said hi as she slid into the car.

Things still felt a bit awkward, but she no longer cried when she was around him, which Kyle took as a positive sign—or at least, that’s what she told herself.

Dimitri was having a hard time. He thought letting her go would clear things up, but it was all a mistake, and he was missing her.

“How long will it take to get there?” she asked the brothers.

“The drive will take about four hours without any stops,” Dimitri responded.

“What happens when we get there?”

“Ellis will be the one waiting and will signal us when someone shows up. You will not be getting out of the car until we have confirmation Viktor is there to meet you,” Max explained to Kyle.

“And will we be notified if they show up elsewhere?”

“Yes. Let’s hope they show up where we will be so we can get more answers,” Max stated.

It didn’t take long for Kyle to fall asleep in the car. Even when she was younger she couldn’t stay awake on a long car ride. Max had his arm around her, and her head was resting on his chest.

“How is she doing?” Dimitri asked his brother. He wanted to know what he had missed. He wanted to know that she was doing all right.

“She’s doing well. She still loves you. Tells me often that she misses you too. You can try and push her away, but she isn’t going to let go.”

“I miss her too, more than I care to admit or thought I would. To be honest, Max, I’m afraid we can’t give her what she wants if she has both of us.

“What if she wants to get married or, for god’s sake, have children? She can’t have a normal family.”

“I understand where you’re coming from, but you shouldn’t make that choice for her. Maybe you should have this conversation with her, but you need to tell her that you love her. You do love her, don’t you?”

“I think so. I’m not even sure what to call my feelings for her. I’ve been miserable, and I can’t look at another girl. I tried. I kissed another and felt fucking guilty.”

Max started laughing at his brother.

“You have it worse than me, Dimitri.”

“Wake up, little bee.” Max loved waking her up; he thought she was always adorable when she stretched out and groaned at being woken up.

Max kissed her on the lips.

“Mmm . . . this is a nice way to be woken up,” Kyle said, kissing him back.

Dimitri hated watching his brother kiss Kyle because it was what he wanted to. He wanted to be with her. He was angry at himself. He was mad because he was stupid enough to push her away.

He needed a breather.

Dimitri got out of the car and slammed the car door shut, then left Kyle and Max.

“What’s wrong with him?” Kyle asked Max.

“He’s angry at himself for what he did to you, and he is having a hard time admitting he was wrong to push you away.”

“I’m going to go talk to him.” Kyle got out of the car, and because it was dark, she couldn’t see which way he went until she saw the light of a cigarette.

“Get back in the car, Kyle.”

“I came out here to talk to you, and I’m not going back to the car until we speak.”

“We can talk back at the house. Please get back in the car.”

“I miss you, Dimitri, and it hurts knowing I’m not with you.” Kyle was hoping this would get him to speak to her.

Dimitri took another drag of his cigarette before putting it out and turned toward Kyle.

“Why? Why do you miss me?” Dimitri knew the answer she would give, but he wanted to hear her say it.

“Because I love you. I didn’t want this break; I want you,” Kyle was almost pleading. She wanted him to know she really wanted him back.

“I can’t give you what you deserve though.”

“What do I deserve, Dimitri?” Kyle’s tone had a hint of anger. All she needed or deserved was them, and she was irritated that he couldn’t see that.

“Love, family, someone to marry—you can’t have that with two guys.”

“Yes, I can. I love you, and I love Max; I don’t need to be married to you for you to love me or have a family. You need to get over this. You and Max share girls all the time. This is no different.”

“It is different, ~myshka~. It’s different because we want to be with you, and only you. We didn’t want any other girls—you were it for both of us, and I realized that you’re always going to love one of us more, and Max will win.

“I know you’re going to want to have children, and I’m not sure I want them, and if we had children, I would want to know that they are mine and not my brother’s.”

Kyle walked over to Dimitri and held his face in her hands. She stepped up on her toes and gave him a light kiss.

“I love you and Max the same. You’re both different and both hold all of my love, and we can take our future one day at a time. Just come back to me, Dimitri. I love you.”
