Cake Clean Up

A month of Payjay fluff!375 words~2 min read

"Okay, now add a cup of sugar..."

Paper read out the instructions for the cake they were baking as he watched OJ scramble to find all the ingredients in the hotel's kitchen. Soap's birthday was tomorrow, and Paper had completely forgotten about it! So he thought he'd bake her a cake last-minute. Simple, homemade, tasty gift, right? She did a lot for the hotel, and he wanted to recognise that.

He planned to make it himself, so it was a complete surprise when OJ said he'd wanted to help out too. Apparently to learn how to bake, because he'd never really had enough time to try before. So here they were.

OJ poured in the cup of sugar into the batter, with so much precision and caution you'd think he was in the middle of a high school science experiment. Paper couldn't exactly complain though, it was better than him being messy.

"Okay... that's all the ingredients, now we just have to mix them together."

Paper switched his phone off, smiling as he watched OJ clumsily drag his fork through the batter several times, his movements hasty and completely erratic. It was quite entertaining to watch, but Paper would never admit that to his face. Instead, he went with:

"Y'know, you're pretty cute when you're so focused on something like this."

Which, in the next 10 seconds, he'd learnt was a complete mistake. He could only watch as OJ's eyes widened, focusing all his attention on Paper and letting the bowl slip out of his hands and into the ground.

...He didn't know how OJ even managed to do such a thing.

Paper blinked a few times, walking over to the mess as OJ stared at it in horror. His face was so red that it made Apple look like Blueberry by comparison.

"...You know we're not making Soap clean this up, right?"

"Yeah... yeah, I know..."

They spent a good few seconds in complete silence, contemplating what had just happened... before Paper burst into laughter, giving his partner the widest, most beautiful smile OJ had ever seen.

"C'mon, I'll help you clean up..."

And so OJ mopped the ground with Paper by his side, once again completely distracted by that fond smile Paper wore.
