Paper sighed quietly to himself, shifting to sit up on his blue striped mat, lazily drawing random shapes into the sand beside him. The laughter and chatter of the other contestants was slowly getting louder and louder, and he'd be lying if he said the noise didn't irritate him.
What was taking OJ so long?
...Okay, maybe he was getting a little impatient... it probably hadn't been longer than ten minutes... but still, surely 'finishing a few things off at the hotel' wouldn't take this long? It had been a relatively slow morning, and even then he'd been helping out for the majority of it.
He couldn't help but worry that OJ was throwing himself into his work again, and shoving their relationship aside. But those worries didn't pester him for too long, since he soon heard his lover's footsteps approaching him, his juice sloshing slightly in his glass.
"There you are! I was starting to get a little worried."
"Hahah, sorry, sorry... it's just... it's been so long since I even left the hotel at all, and I just needed to-"
"I know, I know, you needed to triple-check everything was in order-"
"What? No, I know everything's fine with the hotel. I was looking for these!"
He took out his arms from behind his back, a proud grin on his face... and Paper was completely and utterly lost.
"...A bucket and spade?-"
OJ rolled his eyes, crossing his arms over his chest as his tone became a little more teasing and smug.
"C'mon, Paper, don't tell me you've never built a sandcastle before."
"No no, I just... I'm surprised. You're actually trying to have fun instead of worrying about everything else..."
OJ let out a dramatic scoff at that, pouting at his words.
"Hey! I can have fun! And I don't worry that often..."
"Sure, sure..."
He got up from the mat, taking the bucket and spade for himself as he sped towards the shoreline. OJ chuckled a little and soon ran after him, watching as Paper got to work with constructing their fortress.
"Hey- I only found the one set, hon, we gotta share...-"
"I know, I know! Just let me build a few more!"
Soon enough, the entire space between them had been occupied by a massive sandcastle that Paper had carefully crafted. He was pretty satisfied with the job, gazing at his masterpiece for a few moments before handing his sculpting tools to OJ.
"Here, you can build another layer on! Oh- should I make a moat?!"
OJ could've sworn Paper's eyes were twinkling with stars. They always were, when he was extremely excited about anything... it was just one of the many things that made Paper... well, Paper.
"Well, I don't see why not..."
They got to work building their magnum opus, faster than anything they'd ever worked on before. There was some very efficient bucket-passing between them, and they were done in just a few minutes. Paper fell back on the sand to gaze upon their palace, resting his head against his lover's shoulder.
"Beautiful, isn't it?"
"Yeah. I mean, the water will wash over it all soon.. but I'd say we made something pretty special."
They sat in comfortable silence, enjoying each other's presence as the cool breeze brushed past them. Nothing else existed in the world at that moment; there were no contestants screaming their heads off in the ocean, no afternoon gossip going on behind them, no fighting or chaotic madness... just the two of them, and their little sandcastle.
For about 5 seconds, before Yin-Yang came along and stomped on it, in traditional Yin-Yang fashion.
Paper let out a startled gasp, staring at what once was his glorious castle. Just a few seconds later, OJ's gaze locked onto the culprit, absolutely fuming and already plotting their demise. He sprung to his feet, not even taking a moment to think as he chased after him.
"GET BACK HERE YOU LITTLE-"
