To put it bluntly, the Lopez Corporation wielded such a significant influence in the business world that
blacklisting a company like Laneâs would be a piece of cake.
âSurely Mr. Lopez isnât the type of man who canât handle losing, right?â
âActually, he really canât stand losing Dorothyâ
On the fourth attempt to reach Jeffrey over the phone, he still didnât pick up. Heather finally had to
accept the bitter truth that she was short of a rightâhand man
Without Jeffrey as her inside man around Everett, things would indeed be more troublesome.
While sitting on the sofa in her hotel room, Heather meticulously contemplated where to start
investigating Everettâs sudden marriage announcement Even his parents didnât know who the brideâtoâ
be was. If she couldnât squeeze any useful information out of Jeffrey, then she would have to rely on
her own efforts
Suddenly the cellphone, placed aside, started ringing.
Barefoot, Heather walked over, and, upon seeing that it was Maxton calling, she furrowed her brows in
annoyance but had to answer it nonetheless.
âDadâ
heard from your mom that youâre back. Where are you? Iâd like to see you
Tm swamped with work, Dad. I donât have much time I reach out when Im free
With that, Heather was about to hang up, but Maxton beat her to it. âAht I was just thinking of setting up
a meeting between you and Dorothy You two are sisters, after all Youâre bound by blood. Her mom is
dead, and in this world, all she has left is me, her father, and you her sister. My health hasnât been the
best of late. Iâm getting old, so who knows when I might be gone? I want you two to settle your past
grievances. Donât let the issues of our generation affect you.â
âDad, do you two keep in touch?â â
âShe wants nothing to do with me. But Iâve been to her momâs grave and managed to get her current
phone number.â
Heatherâs eyes lit up. âQuickâ Tell me her number!â
Afraid that Maxton might suspect something, she quickly added in a soft tone. âDad, youâre night. We
sisters should get along well. Although she took Everett from me and made me furious, weâre still
sisters. Iâm thinking we should mend our relationship.â
âHmm. Dorothy is as stubborn as her mom, and I didnt like her for that. But Iâve been doing some
thinking. She is my flesh and blood. She bears the Sanchez family name, so I have to acknowledge her
as my daughterâ
âDad, donât worry. I can forgive her for her past actions.â
Maxton suddenly added, âBy the way, your mom and I have already gotten our marriage license. When
you have time, change your last name to Sanchez Itâs your moms wishâ
Heatherâs lips twitched, and she hesitantly forced a smile. 18 do it when I have timeâ
In her memory, Heather hated it when her classmates and friends asked her why she and her mother
shared the same last name while her father didnât. She didnât have an answer,
How she wished as a child that she could share her fatherâs last name, just like other kids. But Maxton
couldnât give her that. Heâd just tell her mother to put up with it a while longer, saying that Bella would
soon be gone.
And that while turned into decades
Now he wanted her to change it, but she no longer cared.
Did Maxton think that Heather knew nothing of his little scheme? He just thought that she could marry
into the Lopez family, and once she had power, he could use it to his advantage.
Humph
All of them were just selfâserving.
After hanging up, Maxton sent Dorothyâs phone number.
Heather chuckled
it seemed that Lady Luck was on her side after all. She provided her with a lead so swiftly.
