In between the lines, there was a hint of resentment.
After all, in Palomaâs eyes, the young couple had a quarrel, and in the end, her own son ended up in
the ICU due to a car accident! That would be uneasy for anyone.
âEverett, is that so?â Huxley didnât allow Heatherâs words to mislead him, nor did the help her up.
Instead, he addressed Everett directly. Huxley disliked Heather, thinking she was too cunning! He
would rather believe Everettâs words
âHeather, are you suggesting that Jeffreyâs accident happened because he didnât notice the oncoming
traffic?â Everett didnât answer Huxley directly; instead, he questioned Heather. âBut after reviewing the
surveillance footage, itâs clear that a car recklessly crashed into him, leading to the accident. You are
twisting the facts here.â
âL⦠I didnât! I wasnât aware of the details, and I didnât see the surveillance footage, so I just assumed it
was because he just didnât pay attention to other cars!â
Everett tightened his lips, his eyes fixed on her with a stern gaze.
âYouâre just trying to clear your name, to make his parents think you didnât know.â
Her le punctured Heather was a bit flustered, but still pretended to be calm.
âEverett, what are you implying? Are you suggesting that I caused Jeffreyâs accident?â
âThere will be an investigation, no need for your theatrics here.â
Huxley and Paloma heard every word of their conversation. While Huxley remained composed, Paloma
was visibly shocked.
âYou twoâ¦arenât you married? Why are you talking to each other like this?â
âI have nothing to do with Heather Everett bluntly clarified, showing no intention of saving dignity for
Heather, âAs for Jeffreyâs case, I will investigate thoroughly. Iâll keep communicating with the doctors,
and once he wakes up, the truth will be revealed.â
Paloma nodded, then looked at Heather who was still kneeling, her gaze filled with doubt.
âGirl, you can get up! If youâre not involved in this, you donât need to do this. We, the Turners, wonât
blame an innocent person for no reason.â Of course, this was on the condition that she wasnât involved.
What Heather had originally planned was completely different from what was happening, leaving her
awkwardly stuck.
Neither standing up nor continuing to kneel seemed right
Luckily, it was soon time to visit the ICU. The Turner parents were preoccupied with seeing their son,
and they didnât pay any further attention to
her.
After they left. Everett walked over to Heather and whispered, âYouâve overplayed your part.â
âI was genuinely apologizing! Never mind, it doesnât matter if you donât believe me.â
* only believe in facts.â Everett strode away, but after a few steps, he suddenly stopped, turned around
and looked at her, âAnd one more thing! Heather, youâd better pray that your claim about Langston
being your child isnât true.â
At his words, Heather immediately looked up at him.
When she met Everettâs icy gaze, she instinctively shrank back.
ââ¦.. Iâve always followed the instructions of your parents. You canât blame me!â
âIf itâs true, I wonât let anyone involved off the hook, including my parents.â
âThey are your parents; what can you possibly do?â
Everett tightened his lips, âRegardless, things wonât go the way you think! As Iâve stated, I could never
marry someone who has hurt Dorothy.â
