Lane wasnât one to dwell on Dorothyâs past.
As long as her future was with him, thatâs all that mattered!
As for Heatherâs remark about Dorothyâs mother being the other woman, whether it was true or false
held no significance for Lane. He wouldnât even bother to investigate.
He had known Dorothy for more than a hot minute, dating back to her first day at East Star Enterprises.
Witnessing her ascent through the ranks, he observed her tenacious defense of projects time and time
again. It was her resilience and perseverance that Lane truly valued.
âDo you truly not mind that sheâs had another manâs kids?â Heather asked.
âOf course, it bothers me, but I donât care. Itâs all in the past, and she hadnât met me back then, right?
Whatâs important is that she belongs to me now.â
The more Lane spoke like this, the more Heather seethed with anger,
In Heatherâs eyes, Dorothy didnât deserve Lane! That woman should have met her demise alongside
her mother! If it werenât for them, how could her own mother have been the talk of the town, shamed for
years?
But then it struck her
If Lane could assist in breaking them up now, it might not be a bad idea! After all Everettâs mother had
already planned to make Dorothy disappear for good. Whether Dorothy could be protected was Laneâs
problem! And if Dorthy were to die, it wouldnât be considered a breach of their agreement, right?
âI can see that you are truly in love with Dorothy, just as I am with Everett! Shall we talk business then?
Her sudden change of attitude raised Laneâs eyebrows..
âYou have to promise me you wonât hurt Dorothy
âDonât worry. If I wanted to hurt her how would she still be living so comfortably after all these years? If
she hadnât reappeared in Everettâs life, I wouldnât have anything to do with her Heather explained with a
sigh. âItâs a twisted fate. If I had stayed by Everettâs side, he never wouldâve used Dorothy as my standâ
in, and none of what followed would have happened.â
Lane glanced at Heatherâs face.
True, she bore some resemblance to Dorothy. But Dorothy was serene and gentle, while Heather
seemed to carry an underlying sharpness, a hidden malice that she couldnât conceal no matter how
hard she tried
âIâm not interested in your history with Everett, but if you hurt Dorothy, I wonât let you off the hook
either.â
Heather shrugged nonchalantly and smiled, âDeal! I promise youâ
Everett had cooked up a storm, a table full of dishes that were a feast for the senses.
Langston had been staying with him for a while and had probably put on a good few pounds!
âTake it easy, youâll have trouble digesting if you eat too quickly at night Everett would always say,
meticulously picking out the bones from the fish before serving it to Langston.
Dorothy felt at ease with her son being with Everett. If it werenât for the threats from the Lopez family,
she knew just how caring Everett
could be
Holding her bowl, Dorothy watched as Langston gobbled up the meat Everett had served him, smiling
up at him repeatedly. The sight. twisted her heart with an increasing ache
*Excuse me, I need to use the restroomâ
She couldnât bear it any longer, her eyes were already showing hints of redness. She stood up and left,
hoping to compose herself without letting Everett notice anything amiss.
No sooner had Dorothy left than Everett instinctively thought to follow and check on her, but Langston
tugged at his shirt first.
âAre you planning to have Mommy stay over tonight?â
Everett paused in surprise. âYou have a plan?â
âSure do! But you have to let me into the Lopez Corporationâs CEOâs back end just oncelâ
Everett nodded without hesitation, âItâs a dealâ
