Dorothy paused as her eyes widened with disbelief, âAnd when you played basketballâ¦â
âThereâs a thing in this world called BandâAids.â
âYouâre quite the daredevil, you know. Back in middle school, you were just a teenager! Tattoos are
forever. How could you be so sure weâd meet again when we grew up?â
At the end of the day, it was just youthful naivety, wasnât it? The impulsiveness of a teenager!
âI never thought that far ahead. When you returned the letters I wrote you, I thought it was your way of
saying no.â So after that, he didnât dare to think about their future.
âYou thought I rejected you, yet you kept the tattoo?â
âDorothy, donât question my loyalty.â
He had never been swayed by anyone else, so why would he remove the tattoo?
âSo, do you have any idea how I felt when I got that text from you?â he asked.
Dorothy blinked in confusion, âWhat text?â
âThe one where you asked for some âmovieâ. You said you wanted to see them.â
Dorothy froze on the spot, her eyes desperately searching for an escape route.
But Everett, holding her hand placed on his tattoo, wouldnât let her go.
âYou finally asked for something, I figured. Although I donât have those âmovieâ, I could give you a live
demo.â
Her face was now a shade of red that could rival a ripe tomato, and her hand was still firmly in his grip,
unable to retract it.
âI was asking Karen for them. And how did you immediately know what âmovieâ meant?â
Everett let out a reluctant chuckle, âI donât mess with women, but I havenât taken a vow of celibacy.â
âSo, you watch that stuff too?â
âOccasionally. Jeffrey forces it on me.â
âI knew it!â Jeffrey, Everettâs buddy, was just like Karen to her!
Speaking of Karen, Dorothy realized she needed to make some arrangements for her.
After all, Karen had traveled miles to be here. It wouldnât be fair to just leave her to her own devices
while she spent time with Everett.
âHow about I invite Karen over for dinner tonight? Is that okay?â
âYou call the shots.â Everett had no objections.
He was grateful to Karen, after all. He knew how much she looked after Dorothy, and of course, he
would have been even more grateful if Kenneth wasnât her cousin.
âGreat, then Iâll shoot Karen a message!â
Everett nodded, âSheâs never been to Swevia Country before, right? I can arrange for someone to
show her around for a few days before she heads back.â
âIâll ask her what she wants to do when she gets here.â Dorothy paused, then added, âAnd⦠If you see
Jeffrey again, could you explain that Karen isnât meanâspirited? Sheâs just really protective of me. I
want to apologize on her behalf since she said. something really harsh.â
Despite her lukewarm feelings for Jeffrey, she knew she owed him thanks for looking after Karen in
Swevia Country.
âHe deserved the scolding. Thereâs no need to apologize.â
Dorothy was taken aback, âDid something happen between them?â
Had she missed something in her deep slumber?
Everett chose his words carefully, âKaren called you earlier. You were asleep, so I picked it up.â
âAnd?â
âShe said⦠Things got physical between her and Jeffrey.â
Dorothyâs jaw dropped, âAre you saying they-â
Everett quickly clarified, âNothing serious happened, just that Jeffreyâs been in the hospital so long. He
was used to being a ladiesâ man so now he was uncomfortable with no women around. So, seeing
Karen, he got some bad ideas. Donât worry, Iâve already given him a talkingâto, telling him to stay away
from your friend.â
Dorothy pursed her lips, finding the whole situation rather baffling, âKaren laid into him so fiercely, and
he still had the nerve to try- something on her?â
