CHAPTER 175: DREAM OR NIGHTMARE
April felt a little dizzy, she had been using her magic without resting properly, Alessandro held her so she wouldnât fall and asked her.
- Are you okay?
- Yes, I just need to rest.
â You used too much magic, didnât you?
I think I used more than I thought when blessing your armor. Alessandro had planned to ask April to bless Cassianâs armor, but seeing the state he was in, he didnât tell her. He picked her up, carried her to the bed and said.
â I told you to rest.
â And I didâ¦
â But you kept using your magic even when you hadnât fully recovered.
There were too many injured and I couldnât⦠I know, you couldnât leave them.
April nodded, Alessandro gently stroked her hair. Cassian felt a little uncomfortable seeing them so affectionate, that made him remember Maya and made him feel miserable, he cleared his throat and said to them.
â Iâll leave you two alone to continue flirting.
Cassian turned around and left the tent before they said anything, he needed a moment alone. Leaving the tent, Cassian headed to his tent and was very surprised to see Ethan.
â What are you doing here? â I want to talk to you, do you have a moment?
â Would you leave if I said no?
No, Iâve seen Sophiaâs daughter at the camp, why was she allowed to come?
Nobody took her, she just showed up and in case you donât know, sheâs someone hard to convince, she does what she pleases.
â Even if she refuses to leave, she canât be here, itâs very dangerous and itâs not just because of the monsters.
â What do you mean?
â Some elven soldiers have seen her, they know sheâs one of us.
They are under your command, you canât have them controlled.
They are under my command, however they are not loyal to me.
â And what does that mean exactly?
I donât know what they can do if they find
out who she really is, fuck, sheâs part of the elven nobility, youâre aware of that, human kings are mean to their descendants and elves are even more so.
â Even so, I canât do anything to make her leave, April is aware of what youâre saying, sheâs aware of the danger she runs in this place, but as I said before she wonât leave, no matter what we say, thatâs her decision.
Her decisions are foolish and reckless, sheâs a spoiled brat who knows nothing about the world.
Cassian got a little upset by Ethanâs words and told him.
â You donât know anything about her so donât talk. Donât think about doing anything to make her leave, she thinks you were her friend.
â And I am, thatâs why I wonât do what she asks me to do, I respected the decision sheâs made.
â Even if that puts her in danger?
â If that happens Iâll be there to help her. Youâre a fool just like your brother.
Ethan said as he heads for the exit. Once alone Cassian wondered if the decision he had made to support April was right or if he should do what Ethan had told him and try to convince her to leave the camp to a safe place. But he wanted to respect her decision and support her, at that moment he found himself in a dilemma, but deep down he knew that even if he tried he wouldnât convince her to leave, April was very stubborn and didnât give in when she made a decision someone entered the tent, Cassian thought it was Ethan who was trying to convince him again to cooperate with him, but it wasnât him, when he saw who it was he wondered if it was a hallucination, if he had started to delirious from exhaustion, the person who had just entered the tent was Maya.
He stared at her like a fool, she looked beautiful, she was wearing a simple, straight-cut beige dress, her hair did not fall to the sides like a silky waterfall, she moved a lock of hair out of her face, placed it behind her ear and said.
â Youâre not going to say anything.
Cassian approached her and caressed her cheek, he wanted to check that it was real.
- Are you really here?
â Yes, itâs been a long time. How have you been?
â How...? - How come Iâm here? Yes.
â Itâs a long story.
Cassian didnât know how Maya had gotten there, but he was glad to see her, he hugged her tightly, since he had separated from her, his only wish and longing was to have her in his arms again.
You canât imagine how much Iâve missed you, how much Iâve dreamed of having you like this in my arms, tell me this isnât a dream?
Maya stroked Cassianâs head and answered.
â No, itâs not a dream, Iâm with you right now, Iâm in your arms, Iâm real.
Cassian took her face in his hands, he stared at her face in detail, then gave her a soft kiss on the lips and said.
Iâm sorry Maya, forgive me for not going to look for you, I wanted to but the war started Maya put a finger on Cassianâs lips and said.
-Donât worry, I know perfectly well, I know that
you couldnât go for me and it would have been in vain for you to go.
-What do you mean?
Maya was going to answer when a handsome and good looking man entered the store, he was wearing clothes very similar to Mayaâs, when she saw them together she frowned.
-Maya what are you doing with this human? Fay, I told you to wait outside.
-It was taking too long, but now I see why.
-Who is this guy?
He asked very dismayed. Maya ignored his question and went to Fay.
_ Fay wait for me outside, Iâll go now.
Fay left the tent somewhat annoyed and said.
â Donât take long, donât forget why weâre here.
â Iâm not.
When they were alone again, Cassian asked.
- Who was that guy and what did he mean by what he said?
Maya wished she could lie, but she couldnât, she couldnât do it anymore, the words came out of her mouth without her being able to stop them.
- Itâs Faylion one of the fairy princes, heâs my fiancé.
Cassian was speechless, what had been a dream a moment ago had turned into a terrible nightmare, he could finally reunite with the woman he loved, but she hadnât returned alone from the land of fairies, she had returned with a fiancé.
Tell me youâre joking, that man canât be your fiancé, that canât be, it must be a lie, right? In a terrible nightmare, he could finally reunite with the woman he loved, but she hadnât come back alone from the land of fairies, she had come back with a fiancé.
â Tell me youâre joking, that man canât be your fiancé, that canât be, it must be a lie, right? Maya clenched her hands into a fist, she felt helpless for not being able to deny it.
â I canât lie Cassian, Iâm obliged to always tell the truth, even if I wanted to tell you that itâs not true that Fay is just a friend, it would be a lie and I canât say them anymore.
Those words broke Cassianâs heart, he wondered what had happened to Maya during those months that they had been apart for her to end up engaged to another man.
