Chapter 2

“Attention all passengers, please return to your seats, as we will be landing in Athens, Greece, in approximately 15 minutes,” announced the intercom. The girl nudged the sleeping boy, “Anya! Anya!” The sleeping boy jerks awake, eyes glazed over with a dazed look on his face. “Wha..” he mumbles, slurring his words. “Anya, wake up! We are about to land!!” she called excitedly. The boy’s eyes slowly focus before he notices his hand is tightly interlocked with hers. He quickly rips his hand away, “Uhm… did you get any sleep?” he paused, an awkward silence leaking into their space, “Do you know what we are doing today after we arrive?” The girl sighs, “From what I remember, we are going to get to our hotels, and then, depending on how long that takes, we may visit some monuments today. Though I didn’t get much sleep, so I don’t know if I’m going to be up for it.” Before either could speak, the plane lurched, shaking a little, and within a second, the girl’s hand was interlocked with the boy’s again. Neither of the two acknowledged this occurring, and before either could, the intercom chimed, “Ladies and gentlemen, we are beginning our descent and will be landing shortly. Thank you for flying with us, and we wish you all a nice day.” A loud gasp came from another passenger on the plane, “Look!” The boy looked out the window curiously, seeing the city of Athens with sprawling hills of ancient architecture. While in contrast, next to modern skyscrapers jutting out and piercing the sky. Silent admiration swept over Anya’s face, while Adeline craned her neck to try and see out the window, and when successful, was met with the same beautiful view. A few minutes pass, and the plane eventually touches down at the airport. A flash of a memory came into Anya’s view; this was nothing uncommon for him. Random memories were nothing special to him as he experienced them a lot, even though no one else ever said they did. He brushed it off and continued out of the plane. Waiting near the exit, the three students found each other in the crowd. “Hey, Will! How was your flight?” said the girl in her usual peppy tone. A tired expression slid over the taller boy’s face, “Miserable… this chick next to me would just not stop talking, and even when she fell asleep, she started snoring!” Anya laughed, “Well, other than Ms. Scaredy Cat here, I think it went pretty well.” Adeline turned quickly, playfully slapping him on the shoulder, “Hey! You said you were nervous on your first flight too, jerk!” Anya laughed stiffly before saying, “I lied!” Quickly rushing off with Will close behind. The girl scoffed and took chase, following the two towards their teacher.
