Yasmin froze in place.
All her savings combined only amounted to 10,000 dollars. How could she pay now?
Erik saw how ugly her expression was and chuckled. âDonât tell me you donât even have a couple
hundred thousand dollars saved up, Yasmin?â
âThis wonât do,â Joel responded. âA couple hundred thousand dollars is nothing with Blake around.
Heâll surely cover for Yasmin.â
Yasminâs face had crumpled.
Blake had cut her bank card off. Where could she find the money to pay back everyone at the
table?
Right when she was moping about this, Joel called out, âBlake, why donât you come to play
Yasminâs hand? She keeps on losing.â
Blake was looking at his phone on the couch. He shot Yasmin a look when Joel said this.
Yasminâs brows knitted tightly together as she thought about her financial debt.
Blakeâs own brows knitted slightly. He got up and went to the card table. âScooch over.â
Yasmin looked up at him.
Blake met her eyes.
âMove. Do you hear me?â
Yasmin glumly shuffled over.
Blake sat down beside her. Then, he said, âShuffle the cards.â
Yasmin returned to her senses immediately. She tugged at his clothes when no one was looking,
whispering, âYouâre still playing? I already lost 300,000 dollars!â
Blake got another card from Erik, adding it to his hand. He then pried Yasminâs hand away
from his shirt.
âAre you listening to me?â Yasmin growled when Blake ignored her. She reached over to tug at his
clothes again, but this time, she accidentally touched a certain somewhere when Blake dodged her
hand.
Blakeâs breathing hitched. He shot her an icy look. âKeep your hands to yourself in public.â
Yasmin flushed red. She didnât do it on purpose!
Everyone at the table grew more serious now that Blake had joined them. They were all looking at
the cards, no longer paying attention to Yasmin and Blake.
Yasmin quietly sighed in relief. She leaned into Blakeâs ear and whispered, âBe careful. This is a
very expensive round.â
As if deliberately opposing her, Blake added another card to his hand.
âHey!â
âYasmin snapped unhappily.
Blake grinned. âYou wonât lose with me around.â
Yasmin was about to call him a proud snob when Erik added a card to his hand. Blake then called,
âDealerâs bust.â
Blake then put his cards out for all to see. Joel leaned over to look. âFiveâcard Charlie? Damn!
Looks like itâs not that Yasminâs hand sucks, itâs just that youâre not good at blackjack.â
Yasmin wasnât good at it. She didnât even know how much a fiveâcard Charlie could win.
She turned her curious eyes to Joel and asked, âHow much did this set win?â
â300,000 dollars. Youâve won back your due, Yasmin.â
Yasmin was stunned. She glanced at Erik to find his expression somewhat sour.
This made her feel gleeful. She looked back at Blake.
He was already starting the second round with a calm expression on his face.
âI didnât know you knew how to play blackjack,â Yasmin murmured gently in his ear.
âI donât play much.â Blakeâs tone was flat. âI just have a good memory. I learned the basics after
playing with my mother during New Yearâs.â
Yasmin marveled at his talent.
Sure enough, Yasminâs financial nightmare ended once Blake joined their game.
Now, it was Erik who stopped getting blackjacks.
Blake won several rounds, none of which Yasmin knew how to calculate. She turned to Joel and
asked, âHow much have I won now, Dr. Sawyer?â
âYouâve already won a little over a million dollars, Yasmin.â
Yasminâs eyes widened.
âYouâve basically won against everyone now that Blake is here to help you, Yasmin. Blake has a
good memory and can remain calm all the time. None of us usually play with him,â
Joel said.
So that was how it was.
