During the time before the afternoon meal, Luo Old Madam called Chen Zheng Min before her. Since she already had the intentions, then she might as well be decisive. She calmly asked him some questions. Because, for the most part, she was still just inquiring about her own third younger brotherâs situation and getting a feel for Chen Zheng Min in passing, even Jing Wan, who was quietly sitting next to her, didnât detect anything fishy either. And as for the one getting asked, he furthermore wasnât aware.
Because heâd more than once heard his grandmother mention this great aunt before, he knew that their relationship was good. Sadly, after this great aunt had married, theyâd rarely ever met, especially in these last ten years. Because of this, he politely and respectfully replied to every one of Luo Old Madamâs questions. It can be said, he hid nothing he knew, and didnât stop till he said it all in full detail.
Luo Old Madam felt somewhat sentimental again, âDonât know if I will still have the chance to meet them in this life.â
âGrandfather said, he might return to the capital again. Great aunt will definitely have the chance to meet grandfather again. Great aunt please do take care of your body.â
âThatâs good, thatâs good.â Luo Old Madam then said some more things to him, such as donât be too studious, especially at night, need to rest early. Also, donât always stay shut indoors, can allot some time to go out and stroll around. And if he encounters any problems, he can directly go find Head Minister Luo. If heâs not around, coming to her is feasible too. She will leave the question overnight and have someone send a reply to Chen Zheng Min the next day.
Chen Zheng Min naturally was very moved. Great uncle, Luo Pei Shan, was a âFlower Snatcherâ[1] back in the day, and also had ten or so years of valuable experience. Last time, heâd only given him a bit of pointers, and he could already feel the benefits from it. Just, âWill it be too troublesome for great uncle?â His face was slightly red.
This was feeling embarrassed? Jing Wan had always thought of herself as a âthick skinnedâ person. Seldomly did she ever see men blushing, and it was even only because he might trouble someone else. From her view, this was quite rare, and couldnât help giving a few extra glances. However, clearly knowing that it would inconvenient others, but still being honest with oneâs desires, this kind of person can also be considered not bad.
Luo Old Madam seamlessly gave Jing Wan a glance and smiled, âThereâs nothing troublesome about it, itâs just trivial matters. Your great uncle also checks your fourth biao uncle[2]
and those few older male cousinsâ situation everyday too.â Towards talented youngsters, Luo Pei Shan was still willing to guide, let alone her full blooded younger brotherâs eldest grandson. If Wan Wan can become engaged to him, in all likelihood, her familyâs master will put in even more effort.
Because it was just âin passingâ, Chen Zheng Minâs sense of guilt lightened a bit.
Since there were still others present, it wasnât convenient for Luo Old Madam to ask Jing Wanâs opinion. Thus, for the time being, she pressed it down and didnât mention it.
This trip to the Chen Manor can be said to be âthe joy of both guest and hostâ. At least, those few that were upset in their hearts, who would go pay attention to them?
When they left the Chen Manor, Jing Wan was still left by Luo Old Madamâs side, and same as before, they didnât leave anyone in the carriage to serve them.
âWan Wan, how did you get along with the Chen family female cousins?ân/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
âTheyâre all very easy to get along with.â Chen familyâs first branch didnât have as many as Luo familyâs in this generation. Moreover, the three eldest older female cousins were already married off, and the latter two cousins were still quite young. This way, the ones close in age with Jing Wan, including the second branchâs, were just those three or four. Moreover, their personalities were all the relatively good type, except for one little younger cousin, who kept eyeing her accessories. Her flattering words were flying out like water. She was practically just a step away from directly asking for it, making one somewhat annoyed. Jing Wan just smiled and brushed her off. Because she knew that this kind of thing, once there was a start, then perhaps it might get out of hand someday. Itâs not like she was a money tree either.
Just that little girl is probably calling her petty behind her back.
Jing Wanâs thoughts werenât wrong. Actually, that little cousin was Yun-shiâs daughter. A woman with unscrupulous means and had no sense of shame, how good could she raise her daughter to be? While the little girl went to complain to her mother, the other few girls, with unsightly expressions, all went and told the matter to their respective grandmothers. Just thinking about that situation even made them feel ashamed and unable to show their faces.
Never mind that Chen Old Madam was enraged, even Chen Second Old Madam was very angered too. Because she was unsatisfied with Yun-shi, she didnât bother with her and allowed her to mess around. But now, she canât continue to be tolerating towards her anymore. Or else, if it causes the first branch to be unhappy, their entire second branch will all suffer. She called Yun-shi and daughter over, scolded them once over, then confined them for a month.
Have to say, that little girl, in front of Chen Second Old Madam, was also a mannerless one, and began shouting on the spot. Afterwards, Chen Second Old Madam had someone slap her mouth and threw her into the ancestral hall, shutting her in there for three days. Yun-shi was discontent and got angry. As a result, her daughterâs days were lengthened to fifteen days. Only now did Yun-shi and her daughter know to be afraid. Thatâs why, in this world, if a mother-in-law wants to sort out a daughter-in-law, it really was a very simple matter. So much so that they didnât even need to find an excuse or reason to. Since Yun-shi didnât value Chen Second Old Madamâs indifference previously, then starting from today, she was destined to be in deep waters and scorching fire in the future.
Yun-shi didnât dare to reproach Chen Second Old Madam again, but her heart deeply bore grudges against Jing Wan. The previous grudges still havenât cleared, and now new ones were added again.
Jing Wan was unaware. If she knew, sheâd probably feel she was too wronged. These enemies really came a bit too strangely.
âWan Wan, what do you think about your older cousin Min?â
âEh?â Jing Wan was somewhat confused and for a moment didnât react in time.
âGrandmother is saying, to let your older cousin Min be your husband, what do you think?â Luo Old Madam smilingly teased.
Jing Wan was slightly startled. Her first reaction was, âwasnât this too fast?â. Before coming, they were still just talking about her marriage, but now, when they get back, she might have a future husband nailed down? âFrom the first glance, he seems rather not bad. However, because this involves marriage, this granddaughter feels that the first impression isnât that important.â Jing Wan honestly replied.
As for older male cousins and younger female cousins marrying, it was the norm in this worlds. Moreover, they werenât considered closely related cousins. The bloodline was separated by a generation, so it was even more distant. So the possibility of hereditary diseases should also reduce some.
âEn, youâre right. Weâre not in a rush either. Later, grandmother will think of ways to let you two meet a few more times. Also let your grandfather help you look too. If Wan Wan is satisfied, then we can settle it. If youâre not satisfied, we can just search again for others. But we canât just put our eyes on Min boy alone either. While grandmother can still move around, in the future, Iâll also visit those banquets more often. Your great-auntâs side, Iâll also let her help you ask around again for suitable candidates.â
âMany thanks grandmother.â Jing Wan knew, her own grandmother actually didnât like banquets that much, but for her sake, she didnât hesitate to go. And even break traditional etiquette by secretly helping her conceal it. How could she not be moved? Her eyes somewhat became slightly moist.
Luo Old Madam patted her hand, âOur Wan Wan deserves the best.â
When Jing Wan was in her previous life, there was a period of time where she blamed the heavens for being unjust. Why give her a blissful family, then instantly shatter it all? Since that human degenerate loved power that much, why canât he just keep pretending for the rest of his life? Not only did he have an affair, for the sake of an undetermined fetus, he actually even murdered her mom in cold-blood. Taking bribes and bending the laws, all to support his outside lover. Not only that, he even got involved with the mob. Human trafficking, gambling, and drug dealing, not one did he leave behind. When the above had the signs to investigate him, he instead met with retribution and violently died first. Originally just a wealthy home, was completely sealed off and seized. A pile of evidences, still letting him âtake creditâ for even after death. On the mob side, all the bosses were met with calamity. Unable to find the creditor, they instead went to find them. Grandma, for the sake of protecting her, injured her body, suffering for as long as half a year of despair and distress. Those whoâve never experienced it will forever not know what kind of feeling that was.
But afterwards, Jing Wan felt she herself was very fortunate. After all, she had such a grandma whoâd pulled her back from the edge of the abyss. After her grandma passed away, she unknowingly obtained spiritual comfort in another world. What was more fortunate was that sheâd encountered another caring grandmother, who although was completely different in personality and experience from her grandma, yet similarly wholeheartedly cared for her. Furthermore, the other relatives by her side also treated her very well. If this wasnât considered fortunate, then afraid there werenât many fortunate people in this world.
Returning to the Luo Manor, Luo Old Madam unexpectedly received an invitation card. It was an invitation card from the Sun familyâs Ding Duchess. Turns out, Sun Yi Jiaâs flower banquet tomorrow was only a portion of the Sun familyâs banquet. After finding out that the Head Minister of Ritesâs madam had entered the capital, the Sun family sent another invitation card over. Before that, Jing Wanâs eldest aunt, Wang-shi, had already received an invitation card.
And these matters, the younger generation, like Luo Jing Ying, was completely unaware of. They all saw receiving an invitation card from Sun Yi Jia as an honor.
The whole banquet, seemingly invited all the noble madams in the capital, as well as their familyâs unmarried daughters.
âThis is attempting to look for wives for the few young masters of the Sun family?â

[2] Biao Uncle â Excuse me while I throw my self off a cliff. THE FAMILY RELATIONS IN THIS NOVEL IS TOO COMPLICATED FOR ME!! So I guess literally it would be âcousin-uncleâ, I feel like this relationship in english is something like âsecond cousinâ, I know english is stupid with these. But itâs referring to Jing Wanâs fourth uncle, so to Chen Zheng Min, heâs his grandfatherâs sisterâs fourth son. âBiaoâ refers to any cousins that donât share same surname. To make things easier, any tang cousins, Iâll just refer to them like siblings instead of calling them cousins.
T/N: I quite like this MCâs character setup a lot, there arenât many MCs in Cnovel land that choose to move on with their life. While I do enjoy revenge plots, it does annoy me a bit when MCâs become way too consumed by their past and refuse to move on, and also especially annoying when MC goes full on dumb because they got triggered by something that happened in their past. I guess a part of me just wants these MCs to focus on living a happy future, but angry when author continues to torture them ;v;)/
