Chapter nineteen: I'm not a liar (Ellie's POV)
"You want me to lie to her? You want me to tell her that you've got a girlfriend so she has to leave you alone? Are you serious?!" I exclaimed.
"Can you think of a better way?" he asked.
"Tell me this, genius," I spat sarcastically, "If you have a girlfriend then why did you sleep with her less than twenty-four hours ago?" I asked and he didn't have something to say. "Idiot," I muttered under my breath, "You can't lie to her, and neither will I," I huffed.
"Why not?" he whined.
"Because I'm not a liar. If you aren't interested in her, tell her that, regardless of how she reacts. I thought she would have figured it out by now. I even told her you don't date," I mumbled the last bit under my breath. I am so confused.
She left the apartment asking me to tell him to fuck off, and now she's following him around?
"Oh, by the way, she told me to tell you to fuck off, just thought I'd mention it," I shrugged.
He glared at me before rolling his eyes. "You created this problem, now you have to solve it, I don't care how you do that," he said.
"Well, I just won't do anything at all. Because it is not my problem. You slept with her, you brought her to the apartment, and then you left her hanging. Now, pay for it," I huffed before turning to the door to leave but he grabbed me and pulled my back, pinning me against the wall. I sighed in frustration while he shot daggers at me.
"Ellie, I swear," he sighed.
"Zach, I swear," I mocked.
"I hate you so much," he huffed while shaking his head slightly.
"Ouch. That breaks my heart to hear. Sometimes it's hard to face reality, but you gotta do it, okay? Tell her you're not interested, get on with it. I have class," I said before slipping out and heading for class.
What was he planning on doing? Just acting like she didn't exist? I'd rather her follow him around instead of her just randomly showing up at the apartment uninvited looking for him. He needs to sort himself out.

It was lunch and we were all at our table. All of us except for Zach.
"All right, Elle, go find Zach," Brett sighed.
"What? Why me?" I asked.
"Because you're the one that spoke to Jessica, and maybe she just didn't take it the right way, but you have to save Zach. You put him in this mess," Nathan shrugged.
"So, what? He was just gonna ghost her even though we go to the place where she works every day?" I scoffed.
"Yeah," all three of the guys shrugged.
"You guys are pathetic. You just go to these places and act like they don't exist and you don't know them?" I questioned.
"Well, I usually leave on good terms with whoever it was, so I don't have to ghost them," Brett shrugged.
"Just find Zach and bring him over. It's not like Jessica is gonna show up here," Spencer rolled his eyes.
"And why can't one of you go?" I asked.
"Because we're too lazy. Come on, please?" Nathan whined.
"Fine," I huffed while standing up and heading out of the cafeteria.
Where the hell am I supposed to find him? Where do people go to smoke?
That is if he's smoking right now. It's usually the back of the school.
"Damn it, that's so far," I mumbled under my breath while heading out to the back of the school. I got out the door, coughing as soon as I stepped out and the smoke filled up my lungs. This entire area is where everyone comes to smoke whatever it is they like to smoke. "Jesus, fuck," I coughed while squinting, my eyes burning as I looked around.
Everyone was staring at me. Literally everyone.
"Okay, I'm not E.T. you guys can stop staring now, I'm just looking for Zach," I spoke through my coughing fit.
"He didn't come by today," one of the guys shrugged.
"Don't lie to me," I rolled my eyes.
"Round the corner," someone else said.
"Thank you, gentlemen," I mumbled under my breath while walking over there. He sat against the wall with Jessica at the other end, looking around aimlessly.
How has she not seen him yet?
Well, to be fair, he is sitting down and the trash is right there to hide him. What a cozy spot.
"What the hell are you doing?" I looked down at him, biting back a laugh.
He jumped and looked up at me, his hand going to his chest. "Jesus, you scared the shit out of me. Get out of here, go!" He ushered me, whisper-yelling.
"If she walks by here, she will see you. You do know that, right?" I asked.
He huffed before standing up and rounding the corner, pulling me with him so she didn't see. I rolled my eyes following him while he leaned against the wall before killing his cigarette. "What are you doing here?" he asked.
"The guys are calling you," I answered.
"So?" he shrugged.
"So, don't you think you'd be safer, if you will, in a room full of people rather than out here with cigarette smoke as a weapon?" I asked, still choking up.
"Okay, why don't we just get you inside before you choke to death," he rolled his eyes and placed his hands on my shoulders, spinning me around and pushing me back inside.
I caught the guys giving him a look behind my shoulder but I just ignored it. "Don't you think the dramatics are a little high? She can't be that bad," I rolled my eyes.
He gave me a look before shaking his head disappointedly.
"Right, okay, let's go," I began pulling him back outside.
"What are you doing?" he asked.
"Helping," I deadpanned. We went outside and he stayed behind while I turned the corner and walked up to Jessica. "Hi," I smiled while walking over to her.
"Where is Zach? Have you seen him?" she asked.
"I live with him, so yeah, of course, I've seen him," I shrugged.
"Where is he?" she questioned.
"Dead to you, as far as you're concerned," I sighed.
"What?" she sputtered.
"All right, look. You have to leave him alone. Following him around isn't going to do anything but freak him out. Just let him be. Please don't tell me I wasted my breath for nothing this morning. Jessica, come on. There are guys better than Zach Rivers for you."
She wasn't gonna listen, was she? "Yeah, but-"
No, I'm losing patience. "Jessica, just leave him alone!" I snapped, "It's already happened, just get on with it. Find someone else, thank you very much," I said before turning around and strutting off.
I'm sick of jumping into situations for Zach, I should honestly just stay out of anything that involves me solving his problems for him. "If that doesn't do it, I'm sorry, I can't help you," I shrugged.
"Damn," I heard the guy beside Zach mumble before he began laughing with another guy. I should really learn their names. Zach grabbed his cigarette and killed it, glaring at him before pulling me back inside.
"You're a little sassy today, something up with you?" he asked, "Period?"
I turned to him, "Ask any girl that and she will get annoyed, so never say that again, and no. I'm just a little sick of helping you," I huffed before beginning to walk to the cafeteria.
"I didn't ask you to help," he scoffed.
"Maybe you should replay this morning in your head." I rolled my eyes.
"Okay, but you created the problem," he stated.
"You think I created the problem, but really it was you when you brought her back to the apartment," I scoffed.
He stood in front of me, making me stop abruptly. "If I didn't know you any better, I'd say you're jealous," he smirked.
"Yeah, I'm the one with a date this Friday but I'm jealous, that sounds about right, doesn't it?" I asked.
He rolled his eyes before moving out of the way and walking with me. "Where are you going for your little date?" he asked.
"Aren't you curious?" I teased.
"Frankly, no. I was just asking to be polite."
I stared at him in disbelief. "Did you just admit that you were trying to be polite to me? Wow," I chuckled.
"A little dramatic, don't you think?" he asked.
"A little dramatic, don't you think?" I mocked, raising the pitch of my voice. Mocking him is probably what I'm best at. Seriously.
He rolled his eyes as we entered the cafeteria.
"Here, your prized possession. Saved him from the dead for you," I sighed while taking my seat. He shook his head before starting a conversation with Spencer while Brett started talking to me.
"What did you say?" he asked.
"What he wanted me to. I told her to leave him alone," I huffed.
Never again.
Lesson learned. When Zach gets with a girl, DON'T interfere.
Just let him ghost her.
