Chapter thirty-three: You're mine (Zach's POV)

"Imagine being in a car with someone driving like that," she said while I rested my head in her lap, both of us focused on the screen that showcased the movie Baby Driver. "It would be so much fun," we said in sync.

I looked up at her and she laughed while I broke out into a grin. I grabbed the remote and turned the TV off while she frowned.

"What did you do that for?" she asked while I sat up and shifted her body so she faced me.

"So that I could do this," I said before pulling her into a kiss.

When I pulled after a minute, she stared at me slightly confused but the smile evident on her face. "What was that for?" she chuckled.

"No reason," I replied.

"Zach," she cleared her throat, "What do you like about me?" she questioned.

I sighed while falling into thought. I couldn't put it into words even if I tried. I liked everything about her. Every single thing. "I like the way you breathe," I answered.

"Huh?" She looked at me, tilting her head slightly to the side seeming extremely confused.

I chuckled at her obliviousness and explained simply. "Every little thing about you. That's what I like," I said.

"That's a lot to like within a week." She arched a brow at me smugly.

"Who says I've only liked you a week?" I asked rhetorically.

"You can't sit there and tell me it's been longer," she scoffed.

"It has," I nodded, "Now that you know that I like you, and I know you like me, I can admit that I've liked you for..." I thought about how long it's really been. "A little more than two years."

I liked her when I was fifteen when I left, I liked her the two years I was gone and kept trying to distract myself and forget about her, and I like her now that I'm back. If I think about it, she's the only girl I've ever really had feelings for.

"You have not liked me for that long," she laughed while scooting closer.

"I have," I shrugged while her hands found mine.

"Really?"

I nodded in response.

"Interesting," she smirked before scooting back.

I grabbed her and pulled her towards me, kissing her hastily just in time before the door swung open. We broke away and turned to the door where Brett stumbled in with a very irritated Spencer holding him up.

"He has no capacity for alcohol. Can I get some help here?" he huffed while Brett's arm was hung around Spencer's shoulders.

"Nah," Ellie and I replied.

He glared at us before taking Brett into his room and then waving us bye, seeing himself out.

"Where were we?" she asked while leaning in once again.

"Zach!" Brett yelled, appearing in his doorway. I mumbled curses while increasing the distance between us and standing up, turning to Brett while he stumbled over to me. "You are my best friend! Did you know that?" he slurred while pouncing onto me, pulling me into a hug.

I huffed and stumbled slightly while Ellie chuckled as she stood up. "Goodnight Brett," she sang to him. "Goodnight Zach," she whispered before blowing me a taunting kiss and then going back into the room, leaving me with...

"You're my best bud!"

Leaving me with my best bud, Brett.

I sighed while walking into my room after leading Brett back to his room. The bed was empty and I looked to my right as she walked out of the bathroom while brushing her hair. "Is he okay?" she laughed.

"Yeah, he's fine. He's sleeping now," I replied while falling onto the bed. She went back into the bathroom to brush her hair, leaving me there. "Ellie!" I yelled. "Ellie! Ellie! Ellie!" I called out, whining like a child.

She showed up and stood at the foot of the bed. "Why are you shouting?" she asked.

"Why are you so far?" I frowned.

She sighed while putting her hairbrush on the dresser before walking over and getting in bed beside me. I stared, waiting for her to lay on top of me. Her lying beside me isn't close enough. She huffed and rolled her eyes before climbing on top of me. "Better?" she asked.

"The best," I grinned before kissing her.

She giggled before pulling away and beginning to run her fingers through my hair.

"Can I ask you something?" Something I've been dying to know.

"Sure," she replied.

"What did James do this week?" I knew she didn't want to answer, but I had to know. I would kill him. The smile faded from her face while she kept her eyes trained on her fingers that danced in my hair.

"The same shit," she answered.

"Like?" I dug further.

"Follow me around, tried apologizing, tried talking to me," she paused, "He tried getting back together with me."

"What do you mean?" I asked, my grip unknowingly tightening around her waist.

"He asked to get back together. He said he wanted me back," she explained.

"When?" I asked, my fingers digging into her lower back.

"A few days ago," she replied.

"Why didn't you tell me? I was at school, I could have dealt with him then and there. You just let him torment you the entire week?" I asked. How could she let that happen? Why didn't she tell me?

"You were already suspended and weren't supposed to be there, I didn't want you getting in any more trouble," she sighed.

"But-" I began but she cut me off.

"Zach, I don't care what he asked, okay? It's not like I would agree to anything that he would say," she said.

"Yeah, but how dare he even ask?" I growled.

"He just asked, doesn't mean I would listen," she replied.

"Yeah, but he can't ask you that," I huffed.

"Why?" she questioned, a smile tugging ever so gently at her lips.

"Because you're-" I sighed.

"I'm what?" she grinned at me.

"Because you're mine."

Her finger traced the edges of my face while she bit her bottom lip to keep herself from smiling. Might I add, she failed miserably. "I'm yours?" she chuckled.

I raised my eyebrows at her.

"Yeah, I'm yours," she nodded before kissing me.

How dare he even ask her that?

She grunted before pulling away. "Will you stop? I'm yours, is my reassurance not enough?" she lifted a brow at me.

"Of course, it's enough," I replied, tucking her hair behind her ear.

"Then stop thinking about it and kiss me," she whined.

I did kiss her, my hands still subconsciously pressing into her lower back. She grabbed my hands and moved them lower till they rested on her butt before she rested hers on my chest. A little while after that we went to sleep, hoping tomorrow could be a little more exciting and me praying that James fell down a hundred-foot hole.

We woke up the next morning to slamming of cabinet doors. I woke up before she did so I went out to see what the chaos was and stumbled upon Brett aimlessly opening and closing cabinets.

"What the hell are you doing?" I groaned while rubbing my eyes.

"Where is the Aspirin?" he almost growled.

"How would I know? This is your apartment," I replied.

"You and Ellie are the ones who bought everything and set it up. Where did you guys keep the Aspirin?" he questioned.

"She might have kept it somewhere but I have no idea where it is," I answered.

"Then ask her," he deadpanned.

"She's sleeping. Just look for it. Calmly," I talked as if I were explaining this to a child.

"My head is pounding!" he yelled.

"God's sake, it's the third cabinet at the bottom!" Ellie's voice echoed through the door, coming out muffled but audible.

"You heard her," I shrugged.

He opened the cabinet and there it was, right in front of it. The first thing there, actually. He looked at me sheepishly and I shook my head, going back inside and getting back into bed, stealing the covers.

"Stop. Don't even try," she ordered, snatching them back.

I bit back a laugh and pulled them closer to me again and she huffed.

"Zach, I'm not kidding. Stop," she demanded, stealing them back.

I sighed before spooning her, pulling the covers over both of us.

"See, it's not that hard to find a solution," she mumbled sleepily.

I glanced at the time. It's seven, we've still got time. I kissed her cheek before closing my eyes and drifting off. Or at least trying.

I was still thinking of the possible things that James tried on her in the time that I wasn't there. And just lying here and thinking about it was making my blood boil.

She spun in my arms and faced me. "Go back to sleep. You can kill James tomorrow. When it's Monday," she mumbled before pecking my lips and then going right back to sleep.
