Chapter 102 Grace had been by Antonioâs side for ten years, and sheâd heard every kind of sneer and taunt there was. She was past being bothered by them.
She was trying to think of something to say when Devin, standing right there with her, didnât back down but met Antonioâs gaze straight on.
âAntonio, what you said isnât right. In the Hudson family, we believe everyone is equal. Thereâs no hierarchy. Grace and I are a perfect match, and sheâs no longer tied to the Kaufman family. Youâre way out of line. Is this how you were brought up?â
Antonio was left speechless, his face turning red from embarrassment.
He clenched his fists, his face twisted in anger.
His buddies, sensing things were getting ugly, hurried over to pull him away.
With his anger boiling over, Antonio hurled harsh words at Grace. âIf you marry him today, donât ever step into the Kaufmanâs place again!â
Under his furious glare, Grace nodded gently, a faint smile on her lips. âMr. Kaufman, donât worry. Itâs a given.â.
Hearing her faint voice, Antonio felt like his efforts were in vain as if he was hitting a wall of fluff.
With a dark look, he gave her one last, long look, then pushed past everyone, and stormed off.
The waiters quickly cleaned up the mess, and Devin breathed a sigh of relief.
After explaining to the guests and signaling for the party to go on, helped Grace to the back.
With the onlookers gone, it was just the two of them, a couple still finding their footing with each other.
he Graceâs face was etched with regret as she met Devinâs gaze, her voice heavy with apologies. âIâm sorry. I didnât know heâd cause such a scene at the wedding. Itâs all my...â
Devin shook his head, his expression warm and kind again.
âHeâs from the Kaufman family. If he wants to cause trouble, I canât exactly stop him. What can you do? Weâre married and we will face this together. Itâs over, so donât feel guilty or blame yourself.â
Grace knew it was all connected to her, but she couldnât shake the feeling.
âIf it hadnât been for me, things wouldnât have gotten this out of hand. With so many people at the wedding and all this chaos, I bet Mr. and Mrs. Hudson are really upset.â
Seeing her still upset, Devin handed her a glass of water and then put his arm around her, comforting her softly, âStill calling them Mr. and Mrs. Hudson? My parents are kind and understanding. Theyâd only blame the Kaufman family and feel sorry for you, their new daughterâinâlaw. Donât worry. Iâm here for you.â
Taking a few sips of water, Grace started to regain her composure. To keep him from fretting, she let the matter drop.
Devin put the glass on the table and squatted down to hold her ankle.
âDid you hurt yourself when you fell? Those heels are skyâhigh. Did you twist your ankle?â
Grace was surprised he noticed such a small detail and was momentarily 10.57 stunned.
Devin grabbed some tissues, gently wiping away the dirt from her leg.
Then, lifting her wedding dress slightly, he saw the large scar. His voice was filled with concern. âWhen did you get this injury?
Was it the day you were looking at houses? I heard a car on the phone. Did you have a car accident?â
Grace wanted to deny it, but seeing the look on his face, she didnât want to lie to him.
âYes, but itâs almost healed. It doesnât hurt at all.â
Seeing her force a smile, Devin felt even more distressed.
He let her wedding dress fall back into place and then helped her to a seat. After sending a message to his assistant, he placed her high heels to the side.
âIâll have my assistant bring a new pair of shoes. You rest for now.â
âBut the wedding party...â
Devin held her hand, his tone soft yet firm. âThe wedding party is just a formality. Since itâs our wedding, I just want you to be at peace.â
Grace couldnât remember the last time someone cared for her like this. It felt like a distant memory.
A pang of emotion hit her, and she swiftly lowered her gaze.
Yet, she couldnât stop the tears from welling up.
