Chapter 106 Way before she even thought about getting hitched, Grace had heard the buzz about Devin.
The grapevine was buzzing that he was a mild and unassuming guy.
Knowing he was easygoing, she figured it was worth a shot to give him a call.
But when he said yes to her crazy idea and got that marriage license in no time. Grace had to give him some serious props.
After what happened today, she was even more thankful she knew him.
Hearing him say something so sweet, Grace felt like sheâd hit the jackpot.
She looked at Devin, her heart pounding, with a ton of things on her mind but no clue where to start.
Seeing her all dazed, Devin thought she was cute and playfully nudged her nose.
âDonât you want a date? How about we start as friends?â.
Grace got that he was trying to ease the tension, but she couldnât help but blush.
Too shy to meet his gaze, she dropped her eyes and fidgeted with her glass.
Devin felt a flutter in his heart at the sight of her shyness.
Weâve got the marriage license now. Give me a shot, huh? Maybe weâre meant to be.â
His words made Grace feel shy and her checks flush.
After a moment of debate with herself, she pave a tiny nod.
It was such a small move that Devin wasnât sure and asked again.
Graceâs heart was racing and her voice was barely there. âLetâs give it a shot and start as... lovers.â
The smell of disinfectant hit Antonio as soon as he opened his eyes to see Quinten Kaufmanâs stern mug.
âYou did this to yourself over a woman? Antonio, what were you thinking?â
Hearing the stern rebuke, Antonio shut his eyes once more, his brows knitted tight.
âIt wasnât about her.â
âNot about her? Come on! Livia left yesterday, and youâre here in the hospital with a hangover. If you really cared, you should go after her! Whatâs the point of this selfâpity?â
Quintenâs nagging was getting on his nerves, and Antonio was about to lose it.
âSheâs got a boyfriend now!â
âSheâs got a boyfriend, and youâre still mooning over her? The girls from the Coffey and Mullen families are way better than her.
Why are you so fixated on her and nobody else!?!â
Antonio knew his dad was just trying to push him into a marriage, which only made him more annoyed.
âNone of them compare! No one else is as good as Grace!â
The words left both of them in shock.
Antonio was all mixed up, wondering why heâd even put Grace in the same sentence.
Quinten just gaped at him, totally shocked.
âGrace? Sheâs the servantâs daughter. Sheâs not in your league. Youâre aiming way too low.â
Antonio was ticked off hearing Quinten talk like that, and he shot back.
âShe might not be in my league, but Iâd rather see her than those from the Coffey and Mullen families.â
Antonio actually put up a fight for an assistant. Quinten, with a stern face, started to probe, âYou care about her that much, huh?
You must have a thing for her.â
Antonioâs heart skipped a beat, and he froze on the spot.
He turned away, trying to hide how he felt.
âHâHow could I have a thing for her?â
His voice wavered with a hint of uncertainty.
Quinten, an old hand at this, could tell something was up.
âIf you really like Grace, just keep her around. Her mom was a good woman. Also, your grandma likes Grace. If it doesnât work out, donât handle it badly. Marriage is a big deal, and you should listen to your mom. Youâre not getting any younger. Stop messing around!â
