Grace felt that longâlost feeling of security again.
Chapter 109 Grace arrived at the agreedâupon spot. As she opened the door and saw Antonio, anger welled up inside her.
Antonio was quick to shut the door when she was about to leave.
Grace stepped back, creating some space. âWhy did you have Daisy invite me here?â she asked, her voice calm.
Antonio, sensing her readiness for a confrontation, felt a bit on edge.
He leaned back, feet on the desk, still with that same old arrogance. âWhatâs the problem? Weâve known each other for ten years. Canât we talk?â
âAbout what?â she asked, unimpressed.
Antonio played with his wine glass, acting casual. âLetâs talk about how you hooked up with Devin behind my back.â
His tone, expression, and attitude all left Grace feeling queasy.
She put down her bag, her voice resolute. âAfter I resigned, Iâve drawn a clear line with you, Mr. Kaufman. Thereâs nothing more to say.â
A clear line?
Antonio couldnât help but sneer, âDo you think keeping quiet means Iâm in the dark? A man like Devin, so by the book, hasnât had much female company. You made the first move, and he was sure to fall for it. Youâve got some tricks up your sleeve, charmed him into a wedding, and even fooled me. Youâve had your fun, right?â
His teasing tone made Graceâs face go cold.
Chapter 10 She didnât want to argue, so she played along, trying to figure out his game.
âSo what if I have or havenât had enough?â
Seeing her admit it, Antonio felt confident. There was a flicker of triumph in his eyes.
âIf youâre done, come back. I wonât hold it against you this time.
âIf youâre not done, my patience is running out. I donât have time for your games. If you want something, just say it. As long as itâs not crazy, like being a lover or something, I can handle it.â
It seemed that he was doing her a favor, which made Grace laugh.
âThanks for the offer, Mr. Kaufman, but Iâm not coming back. Youâll have to find someone else for whatever you need. Goodbye.â
Grace turned to open the door, not wasting any time.
Antonio was fuming. He couldnât stay seated. He jumped up, shattered his glass, and shouted, âGrace, donât be naive! Devin is just toying with you. A wedding? Thatâs just a joke. You canât really think heâll marry you, can you? When heâs done with you, donât come begging me. I wonât be as patient as I am now!â
Grace turned, hesitated, and then told him the truth, âMr. Kaufman, Devin and I got married a month ago. Iâve told you this so many times. Why canât you believe it? What happens in the future is none of your business.â
Hearing the word âmarriedâ hit Antonio hard. He stared at her in disbelief.
âWhy did he agree to marry you?â
Hearing the desperation in his voice, Grace walked away, her words echoing in the room. âNot everyone is like you, Mr. Kaufinan.â
The door shut with a bang.
Antonio stood there, stunned.
He figured their wedding was just for show, never dreaming theyâd really tied the knot.
His confidence, built over time, crumbled in an instant, replaced by confusion.
His head was spinning with confusion and questions. He couldnât just let her walk away and rushed to catch up.
Outside the door, no one was in sight.
His heart skipped a beat, and he quickly pressed the elevator button, rushing to catch up with her.
