Chapter 26 On our daughterâs kindergarten activity day, my husband Antonio Kaufman said he had to skip it because of work.
He even forbade me and our daughter Leah to go there.
I could tell Leah was really disappointed, so I decided to take her there myself.
But then, we found Antonio right at the kindergarten.
He was holding hands with Sophia Ross, his childhood sweetheart, a little boy in his arm. Together, they looked like a pictureâ
perfect family.
It wasnât until he spotted Leah and me that he frowned slightly and let go of Sophiaâs hand.
âGrace, donât get the wrong idea. Itâs not easy for Sophia to be a single mother. Todayâs her sonâs fifth birthday, and he wants to feel some fatherly love,â Antonio explained.
I forced a smile, took Leahâs hand, and told her, âSweetie, this is your uncle.â
Seeing this, Sophia quickly took her son from Antonioâs arms, looking apologetic. âPlease donât be mad. Antonio is trying to be kind.
âYou know, my son has never had a dad.
âToday is his fifth birthday, so he wants a dad to be with him.â

Sophia was a bit shocked, and the little boy she was holding started to cry. âDad, you said youâd stay with me and Mom today.â
With that, he glared at me with a fierce look.
Before I could respond, Antonio stepped in front of them and scolded me, âGrace, youâre a mother too.
âCanât you have some sympathy for others? Sophia and I have been friends since we were kids. I just want to spend the day*
with them. Why canât you be more understanding?â
âWhy should I? Sophiaâs misfortune isnât my fault,â I thought.
But I didnât argue with Antonio.
Other parents started to arrive with their children, and someone came over to greet us.
âGood morning! You guys always show up together for the kindergartenâs family days.
âYouâre better parents than my husband. He always says heâs too busy with work and doesnât care about our childâs growth at all.â
Sophia gave a few awkward responses, while Antonioâs eyes flickered with a moment of panic.
I managed a weak smile and confronted him, âAntonio, is this what you meant by just being Jacobâs dad for one day?â
Frustrated and angry, Antonio grabbed my arm.

He glanced down at Leah and warned me in a low voice, âIf this gets out, it wonât be good for our daughter.â
Leah hadnât quite grasped the idea that her father was having an affair.
She just pressed close to my leg and held my hand.
Feeling her unease, I squatted down, stroked her hair, and whispered, âDonât worry, sweetie. Mommyâs right here. I wonât let anyone hurt you.â
I watched Antonio walk away with Sophia and Jacob.
In no time, they were swarmed by a bunch of people.
Many people gathered around to chat with Antonio.
They praised him for his successful career, having become the CEO of a billionâdollar company in his early thirties.
Antonio looked very pleased, and Sophiaâs eyes were glued to him, like she was proud too.
Jacob, who was in Antonioâs arms, turned back and made a face at me.
I just smiled, for none of them knew that I owned 75% of the shares in Antonioâs company.
I needed to take care of my daughter, so I didnât go to the office much.
After we got married, Antonio said he wanted a fancy job. Since he was begging for it, I gave him a spot as the General 60.58%

Antonio seemed to have forgotten that he owed his success entirely to my help.
