Chapter Nineteen: Shots Fired

I blink repeatedly, still shocked by Nova's sudden kiss. An unknown feeling sets in my stomach. Nova slowly sets me down, his face painted red.

I pat his shoulder, trying to get rid of the awkwardness. "You did nice bro," Cole walks up to us and puts him in a headlock. I awkwardly laugh and take a few steps back.

Manon grabs my arm and drags me away. Once we're at a far distance away from the gang, she turns to me with bug eyes.

"Dude he kissed you!" she screeches and I roll my eyes.

"It's not a big deal. Besides, it was on the cheek." I correct her. She slaps my hair multiple times.

"It still counts!" she exclaims. I glare at her and slap her arm back. "So, are you two a couple now? Oh my gosh! You guys should get together and make little Nova's and Fro-"

"Woah let me stop you there," I cut her off, "We are not a couple, and never will be."

"We can have double dates now!" she squeals, completely ignoring what I just said. I slightly move my head and notice Nova staring at me. Cole nudges his shoulder, but he doesn't budge. I shift uncomfortably on my feet.

"I, uh, got to go steal some kid's lunch money." I lie and start walking away. As I walk past Nova, my shoulder bumps into his arm. We both look at each other, but I look back down.

Ah.. this is awkward.

I keep walking past him when he grabs my arm, stopping me. "Matthews wait,"

I stare at his hand clamped around my arm.

Fight me, Nova. I'll take him down so fast, faster than you can hi.

"Um, uh... are you- can you- do you want to go get some McDonald's with us? After we change though..." he asks, staring deeply into my eyes.

"Well, I do like McDonald's..."

Say no, dumbass.

Don't cuss at me.

Say no!!

Since you cussed at me, I'm going to say yes.

You're an idiot.

Technically you are because we're the same person.

I smile at him, "Sure why not? I could use a burger and some extra pounds." I make a double chin, and he chuckles.

What an idiot.

"Okay cool! Meet me and Cole by the car with everyone else in a few," he finally lets me go. The skin he touched tingles.

Not because he touched it, but because his hands are warm, and my arm is cold. It's simple science or knowledge. Whatever.

Manon skips up to me with an amused look, and I immediately smile like an idiot. "You don't like him huh?"

"Shut up," I laugh and she shakes my shoulders. "You tryna fight, Manon?" I then gently punch her in the gut.

"No, but where are we going to eat because I'm starving!" she exclaims.

"McDonald's," I sing and she punches the air.

"McDonald's sounds so good right now. I think I'll get a salad-"

"Hold up," I stop her, "What kind of person goes to a junk food restaurant, just to eat salad. Get a burger or an extra large fry. What is wrong with you woman?"

"Hey, I'm trying to be healthy."

"Why? Be a pig like me."

Kai and Iris approach us, both talking excitedly about the track race. I raise a brow at them before smirking.

This has made the life of me so fun...

"Hey Chip, did you know Iris likes the Percy Jackson series?" I ask and he gasps. They begin talking excitedly about it, forgetting about us.

Manon leans over, "I don't think that's a series..."

"Don't question my knowledge." I hiss.

"Really? I love those books!" Kai exclaims which makes Iris blush.

Lord have mercy.

"Hey, guys!" Cole calls out from across the field, jogging over to us. Once he passes me, he swoops Manon up and kisses her. She giggles and holds onto him.

"Where's my hug?" I jokingly pout and cross my arms.

Suddenly, as I'm watching the two lovebirds, I'm swooped up into the air. Screaming, I look at the person, only to see it's Nova. I hold onto him and he smirks at me.

I laugh softly and hang my head back, "You could've given me a heart attack!" I exclaim and jump down. "Is it your goal to kill me someday?"

"Yes. Yes, it is," he answers and smiles. I place a hand over my heart as it melts. How can someone be so cute? "Shall we go?" We all say yes and start walking away. I sling my arm over Nova, and he tenses up.

"Do you even relax bro?" I tease. He rolls his eyes and mutters something under his breath. "Like seriously," I begin to say as we get in Cole's car. I sit in the back with Nova, Kai, and Iris. And since they're so tiny, we had no problem with space.

I almost forgot. Nailia left earlier. She said, "she was tired of hanging out with such losers."

Like, okay. Bye Felicia.

"Relax," I scoot closer to Nova, and start massaging his shoulders. As normal, he tenses up. But not just a little. He tenses up a whole lot more than he usually does. "Don't trust me, I know nothing of massaging. Manon is the queen at massaging." I explain.

He grabs my hands and pries them off of his shoulders. He doesn't say anything as he puts his arm around me.

"You talk too much Matthews,"

As I open my mouth to say something, he yanks me towards me. He puts my head on his chest and I could hear his heartbeat. Strangely, my heart picks up its pace and I feel my cheeks heat up.

What is this?

My cheeks heat up more as he starts making circles on my arm with his finger. Surprisingly, Nova doesn't smell like sweat so he must've showered.

At least he has manners.

Can you feel the love toniiiiiight?

Now isn't the time for The Lion King music.

"What are you guys doing back there?" Manon asks, staring at me through the rearview mirror. She winks at me and I grin.

"Nothin'," I answered innocently. "Just hanging out." I hear Cole snort before parking the car. We all step out and stretch our limbs.

"Alright people, what's the game plan?" Cole asks everyone. I raise my hand and clear my throat.

"Get food, and act like fools."

"Correct. And who are we?"

"Home of the bears!" Manon cheers and everyone claps.

(A/N: *cues dramatic opera music*)

"And what do we do best?!"

"Use our bear paws and beat Rode high!"

"Who do we represent?!"

"Ollie the bear!"

"And what do we stand for?!?"

"Strength, courage and energy!"

"Yeah, that's right!" Cole hollers, clapping his hands. Kai and Iris cheer while I and Manon clap. Nova loses his control and starts laughing hysterically.

"We're acting like we're going to have another football game," he laughs and clutches his stomach. I begin slowly laughing, as his cute laugh is quite contagious.

Oh god, I just called his laugh cute.

"Well you guys did win, and you haven't won in a long time..." Manon trails off, looking at me. I nod with a smirk and hold up my hand to my forehead, forming the letter L. She does the same.

"Losers!" we both yell at the same time. They roll their eyes, look at each other, and start walking away.

"Oi, you can't just leave us!" I shout and begin chasing them. Manon, Kai, and Iris trail behind me. "I'll hit you both with a bag of poo!"

We run inside to find Nova and Cole already looking at the menu. I waltz right up to Nova and slap the back of his head.

"Ow!" he hisses and rubs his head. I smirk and do the same to Cole.

"There's my congrats on winning," I state and cut them. "Can I get three hamburgers with extra pickles and two large fries. Oh and a large coke." the guy at the register nods, putting in my order.

I turn around only to find the gang staring at me in shock.

I don't know why I keep calling them the gang.

"What? A girl can be hungry," I say and move aside so they could order their food. I watch

After they ordered, we got our food and sat down. Iris sat by Kai, Manon and Cole sat to together, and Nova willingly sat by me. Everyone digs in and I pull out my phone.

"I got to text my mom really quick," I state and send her a text.

Me: hey ma, whatcha up to?

5:58 p.m

Mom:

5:59 p.m

Me: gee mom. Getting down without me? I thought we got down together?

6:00 p.m

Mom: Yes I am. Now go have fun and be young.

6:00 p.m

I chuckle and shut my phone off. I snatch up a hamburger and dig into it.  "What else can you eat like that?" Nova asks with a smirk. I raise a brow, putting the last piece in my mouth.

I continue staring at him, making him uncomfortable. I start shoving some fries in my mouth when he lets out an awkward chuckle.

"I'm just joking," he says in between chuckles. He takes a sip of my soda, watching me the whole time.

I playfully glare at him and lean up close to his face. "That's my soda you're drinking," I state.

"Do you have a problem with sharing? If I recall, I'm the one who bought this." he retorts.

"Not everyone is a rich buttface, Nova," I remark in triumph.

"Shots fired." Cole laughs and imitates shooting noises.

He sets down my soda and pushes my head away. I snort and move onto my next hamburger.

"So, Chip, how's life?" I ask Kai and he smiles. Kai shoves some chicken nuggets in his mouth and offers some to Iris. "Are you excited about your track race?"

He nods, "Yeah. I've been practicing." I go to grab my soda when I notice a hamburger missing. I abruptly stand up and slam my hands on the table. Everyone looks at me like I've grown three heads.

I glare at all of them. "Alright, you little twats. I may be annoying, but whoever took my hamburger, is dead." I threaten them, looking into their eyes to prove I'm not joking.

"You ate it, idiot." Nova states and Cole gives him a certain look.

"No, I bought three. I ate two. I may suck at math, but I know I had one left. So, who ate it?"

"Seriously guys," Manon speaks up, "She will literally fight anyone who touches her food. I've seen it happen."

"It was Nova," Cole blurts. "I told him not to but he didn't listen,"

I slowly turn to him, "You ate my food?" I force my eye and head to twitch.

"Matthews, calm down." he holds up his hands.

"Calm down? I was planning to eat that! Do you know how freaking excited I was-" but before I could finish, he shoves a pinch of fries in my open mouth.

I chew the fries and sit down. "Fine. You win." Crossing my arms, I stare at Nova. His jaw moves as he chews his food, he licks his lips and puts more fries in. Something unknown swirls in my stomach.

What on Earth is happening?

"Ma? I'm home!" I yell into the quiet house as I step in.

Dad stands next to the couch with his arms crossed. I spot Nailia lying on the couch, watching t.v.

"Where's ma?" I ask dad. He doesn't answer me and continues to stare me down. "Okay, don't answer me then."

I begin heading upstairs, "I'm tired of you disrespecting me, Frost!" Dad yells at me as I walk upstairs.

"Then leave," I reply and walk into my mom's room. I see her in her bed, her face buried in a book. "Hey ma," I greet and gently throw myself on the bed.

"Hey, honey," she greets back.

"Whatcha reading?"

"The Fault in Our Stars," she answers. "Where did you get that jersey?"

I look down and sure enough, I still have Nova's jersey on. "Oh... it's Nova's."

"He let you wear it? That's nice of him,"

"Yeah... I guess it is..."

Y'all i had writer's block for like half of this chapter, so if its bad, go hate on writer's block.

I was too tired and lazy to fix any errors in this chapter so please excuse those fools.

*hears my song*
