Chapter 1009: Backing
Brody's words hung heavily in the room, casting a tense and serious
atmosphere. Everyone exchanged glances, all instinctively turning their
eyes to Horace. It was clear to everyone who Brody was referring to.
However, apart from Brody and Horace, the others present were merely
high-ranking employees with no substantial shares. They didn't dare to
speak out, as they were essentially employees.
Under Horace's leadership, Armstrong Corp had shown steady
improvements. The company was clearly on the right track, and this
was evident to the internal employees, especially the executives. Unlike
in the past under Brody's management, many things had been
superficial, done only for appearances, while the reality was far from
ideal, as evidenced by the recent Elijah incident.
Thus, the room fell into contemplative silence, with no one offering a
response to Brody's words.
Seeing the lack of response, Brody continued, "Mr. Burris, even if
Camille's signature is on the document, how can we be sure it's really
her signature? How can we prove it's her signature without her
admitting it? I won't accept it unless Camille herself confirms it."
Brody was adamant, leaving Horace with no choice but to dial Camille's
number. Despite having other means to resolve the situation without
bothering Camille, he wanted Brody to be convinced without any
doubts.
When the call connected, it was Brody who spoke first, almost
snatching the phone from Horace's hand. He questioned Camille
sharply, âCamille, are you sure you want to transfer your shares to
Horace? Tell me, this isn't the truth, and it's not voluntary, is it?"
Camille was currently at the Simpson's mansion, accompanying the old
Simpson. Upon hearing Brody's voice, she immediately understood the
situation. She glanced at the old Simpson and nodded subtly before
leaving the old Simpson's bedroom. She calmly responded, "Yes, it's
voluntary.â
Camille's reply further infuriated Brody. He didn't care if the timing was
appropriate or not. His face turned red with anger as he pressed, "Do
you know what you're doing? I asked you to transfer the shares to me
earlier, and you said you wanted to obey Grandpa's wishes. Now, what
are you doing? Do you realize that your actions are harming the
Armstrong family?"
Brody was seething with anger, but Camille remained composed. Her
tone was still calm as she replied, "Obeying Grandpa's wishes was
correct, but now I believe that Armstrong Corp is better managed by
only one person. Besides, my partnership with Mr. Burris is just that-a
partnership. I can have my shares back whenever I want. I have no
interest in running the company. The current arrangement suits me fine.
It requires no effort on my part, and I still get dividends. Why not take
advantage of that?"
Brody slammed his hand on the table in frustration and said, "Camille,
are you deliberately opposing me?"
Camille remained composed and replied, âI'm not opposing anyone. I'm
simply following my inner decision to transfer my shares to Mr. Burris.
This doesn't affect your interests, does it?"
Brody wanted to say more, but he held back. After all, Horace and other
high-ranking officials were present, and he didn't want to tarnish his
image in front of everyone. His frustration was evident, but he didn't
voice his full thoughts regarding Horace.
Brody lowered his voice, his words dripping with intensity, "What you're
doing is destroying the Armstrong family, Camille. Let me make it clear
to you, as long as you carry the name Armstrong, you're still a part of
the Armstrong family. Even if the Simpson family supports you, you
must adhere to the Armstrong family's rules. I insist you come back
immediately.â His brows furrowed, as if he had just realized something
important, and he added, "We need to have a serious conversation
about this."
Camille, without hesitation, declined, "There's no need to return to the
Armstrong family. I don't think there's anything left for us to discuss,
especially at a time when I don't want to be a sacrificial lamb for the
Armstrong family. If there's nothing else, let's leave it at this."
With that, Camille hung up the phone, giving Brody no opportunity to
speak further. Brody was left fuming, and he felt like throwing his phone
out the window.
Brody clutched his phone tightly, his face displaying deep frustration.
After nearly half a minute, he tossed the phone onto the table in front of
him. His sharp eyes remained fixed, unblinking. Horace, sitting nearby,
calmly inquired, "Mr. Armstrong, now that the call has been made, and
we've heard her opinion, can we continue?"
"This matter isn't over. I won't sign, and I won't hand over the company
seal. I'll talk to Camille first, and then we'll see!â
Brody spoke as he rose from his seat, intent on leaving. Horace's voice
rang out, "Mr. Armstrong, does this mean you intend to violate the
rules?â
"What are the rules?" Brody replied. "This is Armstrong Corp, and the
rules here are determined by the Armstrong family. It's not a matter of
whoever holds the most shares having complete control.â
Horace simply smiled and posed a question to the others present, "Do
you all agree with Mr. Armstrong?"
The people in the room exchanged glances before one of them spoke
up, "The person with the majority of the company's shares should have
the final say in the company's decisions, right?"
Everyone stood by Horace's side, leaving Brody glaring at them coldly.
He had thoughts about telling them to shut up and felt they shouldn't be
here in the first place. In his view, these people were just Armstrong
Corp's executives, essentially employees, so why did they think they
had a say in the boss's business?
However, Brody held his tongue, choosing not to express his
frustration. He was unable to continue the meeting with the current
atmosphere. He felt that he had lost face as the chairman in front of all
the employees. His reputation was tarnished by a much younger man.
Brody left the office, just as he had said. He didn't hand over the
company seal, nor did he sign any documents. The legal department
and the company's executives decided to draft a new company seal for
the time being, temporarily invalidating the current one. Horace agreed
with this proposal, and they proceeded accordingly.
The meeting continued for about an hour before concluding, but the
matter was far from over.
Brody remained opposed to Horace's cooperation with Camille. He was
like a caged animal, restless and anxious. If Horace truly gained control
of the majority of Armstrong Corp's shares, Brody felt that he would be
completely restrained, and he couldn't bear that thought.
Brody made a decision, but before acting on it, Mr. Wesley contacted
him again to inquire about the progress. Brody reassured him with a
nonchalant response, âIt's happening soon. She's already wavering.
Don't worry; the Armstrong family won't go back on our word."
Brody placated Mr. Wesley, and then he returned to the Armstrong
family's mansion.
In his heart, Brody resolved that if Camille acted unfairly, he wouldn't
hesitate to take action.
At this moment, Camille remained unaware of these developments.
After chatting with the old Simpson, Camille went to the garden to find
Talia. Talia was currently with Timmy, taking a stroll in the garden.
Timmy was overjoyed and clung to Talia, not giving her a moment's
rest. He wanted his grandmother to be with him all the time.
Talia was both happy and exhausted from entertaining Timmy.
Camille approached them and interrupted, handing Talia a glass of
water. "Mom, have some water and take a break. You don't have to
keep playing with him. It's too tiring."
Talia smiled and accepted the glass of water from Camille. "He's my
grandson; of course, I want to spend time with him. It might be a bit
tiring, but it's worth it. Have you seen your grandpa sleeping?"
Camille replied, "Yes, he just lay down for a nap. I guess he finds it
exhausting to chat with me. He probably won't want to see me
tomorrow, thinking the countryside is more comfortable without my
presence.â
Talia asked, "How could that be? He really misses you." Talia finished
her water and looked at Camille with a sincere expression. She said,
"Cami, we're truly grateful to you. Even though we're family, we still
want to say thank you. If it weren't for you, your Grandpa would be
even more stubborn.â
Because of Camille, the old Simpson was willing to take better care of
himself, hoping to live longer and support Camille for as long as
possible.
Camille responded, "Grandpa values me."
