Chapter 1171: Furious Curse
In the depths of her heart, she silently said, âCamille, I hate you!!!" She
had completely lost her mind, devoid of rationality. She didn't even
attempt to search for reasons within herself. However, she didn't dare
to take any real action, as she was afraid of death. She also feared that
if she died, Brody would replace her with someone from the outside. As
long as she firmly held onto her position, no other woman from the
outside world would ever see the light of day. This was her most
important principle.
Camille was oblivious to Page's thoughts, so naturally, she didn't care
at all.
Camille was still waiting for a response from Preston, but a whole day
had already passed, and it seemed that Preston hadn't made any
moves.
After leaving the Armstrong family, Preston didn't go straight back to the
company. He didn't have the motivation to work at the moment. His
mind was filled with thoughts of how to get Brody to agree to his
demands.
With each passing minute and second, Preston felt his opportunities
dwindling. He took a silent deep breath, his expression cold, and
repeatedly asked himself in his heart, "What should I do? What should I
do?"
Quintus noticed Preston's state and felt somewhat concerned. Of
course, he hoped that Preston would climb higher, as only then would
his own position and prospects become more secure.
Quintus drove the car and spoke softly, âMr. Walker, did Mr. Armstrong
not agree to your request? Doesn't Mr. Armstrong realize that it would
be beneficial for him as well? Only when this project is completely in his
hands can Mr. Armstrong secure a place in Armstrong Corp. Otherwise,
according to the current situation, he will have to follow Horace's
arrangements. Isn't that something he doesn't want?"
Preston squinted his eyes, a glimmer of cold indifference flashing in his
gaze. He sneered, "He's just a timid coward who thinks everything is a
risk. He wants to take advantage and reap the maximum benefits while
giving as little as possible.â
Quintus echoed, "You're absolutely right. The surname Jian is exactly
like that, stingy. In my opinion, you've spoiled him too much. You should
let him experience some losses to understand who has treated him
well."
Preston found these words enlightening, but his current state of mind
was so chaotic that he couldn't come up with any solutions in response
to Quintusâ suggestion.
He took a silent deep breath, his expression turning cold. He said,
"How can we make him suffer?"
âI overheard them, the couple arguing. If this news spreads within
Armstrong Corp, will it affect his position? After all, a company's biggest
taboo is discord between a couple, especially a couple like Mr.
Armstrong and his wife. They have always presented themselves as a
loving couple in public!"
Preston didn't think much of Quintusâ suggestion. He believed it was
just a trivial and petty method, capable of causing only minor
disturbances even if it worked. But what he wanted was an immediate
solution. However, he had no other options at the moment, so he had to
listen to Quintusâ advice.
He immediately had Quintus release the news. Although it wasn't a
major issue, the fact that Brody and Page, the loving couple, were
arguing to the point of divorce meant that their assets would have to be
divided if they proceeded with the divorce.
Wouldn't that mean Brody's shares would also be split in half?
If that were the case, the largest shareholder in Armstrong Corp would
be set in stone. Currently, Horace held the most shares, but he still had
Camille's shares. If Camille regretted and wanted them back, the
Armstrong family could potentially become the largest shareholder.
If Brody and Page were to divorce, Horace would truly become the
largest shareholder.
Upon learning this news, the upper management and employees of
Armstrong Corp remained composed and subtly leaned towards
Horace, trying to align themselves with him without being too obvious.
Armstrong Corp had already been split into two factions, one
supporting Brody and the other supporting Horace. But now, the people
who were originally on Brody's side were leaning towards Horace,
hoping to continue their survival within Armstrong Corp using this
approach.
Horace also sensed something amiss. He instructed his secretary to
gather information and find out the situation, and the result was, "Mr.
Burris, it seems that Mr. Armstrong is considering a divorce, and his
people are concerned that he won't fare well in the company if he goes
through with it. That's why they're expressing loyalty to you!"
Horace furrowed his brows, his expression turning cold. He said, "Mr.
Armstrong wants a divorce?"
"Yes, this news only came out this morning, and it's still unclear who
leaked it."
"Go to the Armstrong family yourself and find out the result from Mr.
Armstrong's side." Horace gave a faint order, showing no hint of joy
despite the current situation. For him, the outcome didn't make much
difference. What he wanted was to improve the operations of
Armstrong Corp and present a different Armstrong Corp to Grace. As
for who held more or fewer shares in Armstrong Corp, it was
inconsequential to someone who genuinely wished for the company's
welfare.
If it weren't for Brody's selfishness, Horace would have never wanted to
have such a strained relationship with him. Even for Grace's sake, he
wouldn't have fought with him over anything.
But Brody is too selfish. His heart is only filled with himself, never
considering who truly owns Armstrong Corp. He only wants to get more
money, that's all! His thoughts have already diverged from Horace's
goals and intentions, so naturally, he won't let him succeed.
Horace instructed his secretary to confront Brody face to face on behalf
of the Armstrong family. As soon as Brody heard the question, he
immediately thought of Preston, but he didn't mention Preston's name
in front of the secretary. He simply told the secretary, âThese are all
rumors. Don't believe this nonsense. My wife and I have a good
relationship!"
The secretary responded, "Mr. Burris is also concerned that someone
is intentionally spreading rumors behind the scenes. That's why he
instructed me to come personally. Since Mr. Armstrong says there's
nothing to worry about, Mr. Burris will be relieved.â
After the secretary left, Brody was infuriated. Because only Preston
knew about this matter, he was convinced that Preston had leaked the
information. He couldn't tolerate it and immediately called Preston to
berate him.
After hearing Brody's questioning, Preston realized that Quintusâ plan
wasn't perfect. He had been too hasty, which led to the current
situation. But in the face of Brody's attitude, he still had to maintain a
friendly demeanor and said, "Mr. Armstrong, the information did not
leak from me. Think carefully, it's not just me who knows about your
quarrels and potential divorce with your wife. There are many servants
in the house, and there are so many neighbors nearby. How can you be
so sure it was me? Besides, I'm not foolish. It would be unfair to both
you and me if I did such a thing. So why would I do it?"
"Are you saying you have nothing to do with it?" Brody asked
indifferently.
Preston replied without hesitation, "Of course, of course I have nothing
to do with it. On the contrary, I want to know who has been keeping an
eye on you. Do they know that I visited you today and want to find out
what we talked about?"
Preston's words were enough to shift all the suspicion onto one person,
Horace. His guidance naturally led Brody to consider this possibility.
Brody remained silent for a few seconds and then asked calmly, "So
what should we do now?"
By using "we," Brody described himself and Preston, indicating that he
was willing to cooperate with Preston's plan. This made Preston very
happy, and his facial expression relaxed. He said, "Mr. Armstrong, my
solution is simple. Just follow what I say. Only by following my
instructions can we restrain Horace. Moreover, my promotion is
temporary, and everything is up to you. If you think I'm not doing well
enough, you can demote me at any time. If you think I'm doing a good
job and it helps you restrain Horace, then we can continue. In short,
everything we're doing now is for the project, isn't it?"
