Chapter 1182: Apology
After a brief gaze, Preston's voice followed, saying, "Mr. Burris, you're
making me feel like an outsider. Although I was arranged by Mr.
Armstrong to join the company, I understand very well who is in charge
of Armstrong Corp at the moment. Originally, I wanted to discuss the
meeting's content with Mr. Burris in advance, but the museum called
and rushed me. Additionally, since I have had little interaction with Mr.
Burris, I was concerned that you might have a certain opinion of me
after I confessed. After all, I haven't contributed much to Armstrong
Corp since I arrived, and it wouldn't be appropriate for me to start
demanding things.â
Horace maintained his indifferent demeanor as he looked at Preston.
How could Camille not perceive the hidden implications in his words?
Without changing his expression or showing much emotion, Horace
asked, "So, Mr. Walker, what do you want to tell me now? Are you here
to express your apologies?"
Horace, of course, wouldn't follow Preston's line of thinking to guess
and assume. On the contrary, he went against Preston's purpose for
coming today, deliberately acting ignorant and pretending not to know
Preston's intentions.
This questioning made Preston quite anxious, but he couldn't show too
much of it. He could only go along with Horace's words and say, "Well,
today I did want to apologize to Mr. Burris. Previously, due to some
rumors and misleading information, I doubted Mr. Burrisâ abilities,
thinking they weren't as remarkable as I see them now. So, I had some
doubts about Mr. Burrisâ approach to handling things. But after this
experience, I realized I should only believe what I see with my own
eyes and not blindly trust rumors."
Horace's eyebrows slightly furrowed, clearly displaying a change in
expression that Preston naturally caught on to.
He continued, "Mr. Burris, I didn't mean anything else. I was just
speaking honestly. I deeply admire people who are efficient in their
work and have capabilities. This time, Mr. Burris, you have impressed
me, so I sincerely want to apologize.â
"Mr. Walker, there's no need to be so polite. It was just a trivial matter.
Your serious and formal approach actually makes me a bit
embarrassed.â Horace's fingertips lightly tapped on the desk, his
handsome face revealing deep emotions. Preston wanted to delve into
what Horace was truly thinking at the moment.
However, Horace was always composed and calm, no matter the time
or place, making it truly difficult for anyone to see through him.
Therefore, Preston's face was somewhat unpleasant, but he didn't dare
to show too much displeasure in front of Horace. He could only cover it
up with a smile and said, "I believe that honesty is necessary in our
work. I think Mr. Burris understands the meaning behind my honesty
today, right?"
"Naturally. But what I'm curious about is, wasn't Mr. Walker arranged to
join the company by Mr. Armstrong? So why didn't Mr. Walker directly
approach Mr. Armstrong to clarify things? I believe that with Mr.
Armstrong's trust in Mr. Walker, he would provide endless support.â
Horace smiled lightly, clearly indicating his intention to get to the bottom
of this matter.
However, Preston deliberately evaded and said, "Mr. Burris, the matter
is already in the past. There's no need to bring it up again. As long as I
understand the kind of person Mr. Burris is in my eyes, it's enough. As
for the misleading by others, I don't think it's important anymore.â
âThat's true. Since Mr. Walker feels that way, let others say whatever
they want!"
"Yes." Preston smiled faintly and continued, âMr. Burris, I have another
matter to discuss."
"Go ahead.â Horace looked at Preston, waiting for him to continue
speaking.
Preston said, "Mr. Burris, now that you're cooperating with Simpson
Group, I assume your focus will be on the collaboration with them. In
that case, I can take charge of the museum project. Although the
museum requires me to be promoted to continue the collaboration, I
believe that since Mr. Burris has secured the project with Simpson
Group, the museum won't say much. This way, Armstrong Corp can
secure another project. So, I hope to have Mr. Burrisâ support.â
"What kind of support do you want?"
âI don't need Mr. Burris to do anything specific. I'm just a small project
manager for now. I hope Mr. Burris can publicly acknowledge that I'm
also a part of the project with Simpson Group. That's all, is that okay?"
This was Preston's main reason for coming today. He wanted to use
the Simpson Group project as an excuse to secure the museum
project. He wanted to make Ayan feel powerless against his plans. If
Ayan wanted to hinder his project in this way, he would use Ayan's
project to secure the museum project.
So he was willing to lower his head in front of Horace and apologize, all
for the sake of securing the museum project.
Preston believed that his thoughts and calculations were perfect
because he seized the opportunity. He assumed that Horace and Ayan
would naturally not consult each other. When he had this idea, he
already imagined the ultimate result, which was exactly what he
wanted.
Can everything really unfold according to Preston's desires? Horace's
expression was calm, and he seemed to have little reaction. He silently
observed Preston with a slightly cold and distant gaze, making it
difficult for Preston to grasp his thoughts.
Their gazes locked, and neither of them looked away first.
After nearly half a minute, Horace's voice finally sounded unhurriedly.
He said, "Mr. Walker wants me to make an announcement?â
"There's no need to make a public announcement. Just a few words
during a company meeting will suffice. Rest assured, Mr. Burris. I
absolutely, positively will not be involved in any projects related to
Simpson Group. To be frank, I have some conflicts with Ayan. Mr.
Burris, you've only recently arrived in Hance City, so there are certain
things you may not be aware of. It's not something that can be
explained in a few words, but you only need to know that I have no
interest in any projects from Simpson Group. I only want to secure the
museum project and make a contribution to Armstrong Corp. As for
everything else, I will cooperate with Mr. Burris."
Preston's words were sincere, to the point where he almost directly told
Horace that as long as he secured the museum project, his heart would
naturally align with Horace's.
However, what he didn't realize was that he was insignificant to Horace,
with no utility whatsoever.
Nevertheless, Horace showed no sign of his thoughts. He simply
glanced at Preston with a faint expression before saying, "I understand
Mr. Walker's intention, but... I'm afraid I don't have the final say in this
matter. It all depends on the museum's decision. What do you think?"
"Rest assured, Mr. Burris. If you follow my instructions, I'll take care of
the subsequent matters. I'll talk to the museum myself. I have a good
relationship with Jenson, the project manager at the museum. We're
old friends, and now we just need a prestigious title to appease the
people at the museum."
Preston believed that these were minor matters. As long as he
convinced Horace, the museum project would be almost halfway
secured.
Horace didn't interrupt Preston during his speech, but waited until he
finished before saying, "Since Mr. Walker has brought it up, I'll have my
secretary organize a meeting this afternoon to announce this news.
How does Mr. Walker feel about that?"
âThank you, Mr. Burris."
"Don't mention it. Securing the museum project will bring significant
benefits to Armstrong Corp. Thank you for your hard work, Mr. Walker.â
âIt's my duty. Please feel free to give any instructions in the future.â
"Very well."
Preston stood up and said, "I won't disturb your work any longer, Mr.
Burris. I'll return to my office to handle some matters.â
Horace remained silent, nodding his head as Preston left the office.
Once Preston was gone, the secretary closed the door, and Horace
returned to his desk with a serious expression. He said, "Mr. Burris, are
you really going to agree to Preston? By doing so, aren't you indirectly
helping him?"
