Chapter 1204: Control
âIt was only today when she confessed at the police station that
everything was orchestrated by me that I saw her true colors, Cami. I
didn't deceive you; everything I said was true. You have to believe me."
âI know you have misunderstandings about me now, and no matter
what I say, you probably won't believe it. But I still want to say one
thing: all of this is Eileen's personal actions, and I have nothing to do
with it. I am now implicated by Eileen and manipulated by Ayan. Why
are they so coordinated and cooperative? Isn't that worth
contemplating? Do you really believe everything is just a coincidence?"
"What do you mean then?" Camille asked indifferently.
Preston sensed an opportunity and quickly continued, âI don't mean
anything. I'm just afraid you're being deceived because everything
that's happening now has made me deeply worried. Cami, it's too
dangerous for you to stay by his side alone. I'm afraid he might harm
you!"
"He would harm me?" Camille found it amusing and asked, "Why would
he harm me?"
"Because of Eileen, do you really think he would send Eileen to the
police station because of this incident? I'm afraid that won't happen.
Perhaps all of this is just an illusion.â
âBut you're not him. Why are you so certain?" Camille asked coldly.
Preston replied, "I understand men, and I understand Ayan. He has a
sense of loyalty towards Eileen. How could he possibly send her to the
police station over this?"
Camille pursed her lips and remained silent, which made Preston
somewhat uneasy. He didn't know if Camille was really listening or not.
Because Camille didn't respond, Preston worriedly asked, "Cami, are
you listening to me?"
"Yes, I'm listening. Go on!"
"Cami, I don't mean to sow discord between you. I just don't want you
to be deceived. You... it wouldn't hurt to be more cautious.â
"Alright, I understand."
Camille cooperatively agreed, which caught Preston off guard.
The atmosphere fell quiet, and this silence made Preston increasingly
uncomfortable. He didn't want it to be like this; he hoped Camille would
refute his words, giving him an opportunity to ask if Ayan had said
anything to her.
With so many things happening, Preston hoped Camille didn't know,
but at the same time, he wanted her to know a little bit.
Perhaps it was because he could use this opportunity to sow discord
between Camille and Ayan while gathering some information from
Camille's mouth.
But now he found himself in a dilemma, and the more he thought about
it, the more complicated his mood became.
This continued for quite a while until Camille spoke up, "Are you done
talking? Is there anything else you want to say? If not, I might have to
hang up because he's back."
After Camille finished speaking, Preston didn't object, so Camille didn't
ask any further questions. Without saying anything, she simply hung up
the phone.
After ending the call with Preston, Camille let out a deep sigh. She
lightly pursed her lips, her expression not looking good. She sat on the
sofa without any intention to move. The housekeeper came out of the
kitchen and saw her sitting there, unable to help but ask, "Mrs.
Simpson, weren't you going to bring fruit tea to Mrs. Simpson? Why are
you back so soon?"
The housekeeper asked and then noticed the fruit tea on the coffee
table. Camille also snapped out of her thoughts and said, "I'll go later.â
The housekeeper nodded, "Alright, I'll put it in the refrigerator to chill.
It'll taste even better later.â
"Okay," Camille replied softly.
Camille continued sitting on the sofa without getting up. Her face
looked quite unpleasant because Preston's phone call completely
eradicated the little bit of affection she had left for him.
Camille didn't know how long she had been sitting there until Ayan
returned and saw her sitting there in a daze. He walked up to her but
she didn't react at all. Ayan instinctively narrowed his eyes and sat
down next to Camille, reaching out to hold her waist and asked softly,
"What are you thinking?"
Camille snapped out of her thoughts and was slightly startled. She
subconsciously looked at Ayan, her expression somewhat dazed, and
asked, "When did you come back?"
âI've been back for several minutes now, but you didn't react when I
called you. What were you thinking?" Ayan replied.
Camille was deeply lost in thought, especially as she recalled her years
of interaction with Preston and his numerous dismissive and
manipulative actions towards her. The more she thought about it, the
darker her expression became. She looked up at Ayan, met his eyes,
and took the initiative to reach out and encircle his waist with her hand.
She said, "Preston called me just now."
"Oh? What did he tell you?" Ayan asked.
"Guess," Camille teased, burying herself in his chest.
Ayan's face remained calm, but his black and white eyes flickered with
a hint of coldness. He asked, "Did he tell you not to trust me and to be
cautious? Did he say that I must have ulterior motives with Eileen,
otherwise Eileen wouldn't stand by my side to falsely accuse him?"
Most of it was correct.
Camille looked up at Ayan and said, "You really understand him. If
someone didn't know, they might think you two were good friends!"
"He's deluding himself,â Ayan sneered, his eyes filled with disdain,
which made Camille unable to help but laugh.
The two of them locked eyes like this, and Camille's gaze wavered with
a desire to speak but hesitated. She didn't directly speak until Ayan
asked, "Do you have something to say?"
Camille pursed her lips and said in a low, deep voice, "Is Preston's
current situation within your control?"
Camille asked seriously, without any hint of inquiry, but rather with
certainty.
She stared at Ayan without blinking, and Ayan gave a faint smile, lightly
pinching Camille's chin. His black and white eyes were full of fondness
as he said, "You really do understand me. Nothing can be hidden from
you anymore, huh? Looks like I'll have to be more careful from now on,
or else you'll see through me completely!"
"So don't ever lie to me. I'll see through it instantly and won't hesitate to
expose you. You better be careful,â Camille threatened in a serious
tone, though her threat was meant in a playful manner.
From last night until now, the atmosphere had been somewhat heavy
due to the many things that had happened. Every step had to be taken
carefully, as one wrong step would never lead to the current outcome.
Camille looked at Ayan calmly and asked, "So where is Preston now?"
"He's in an orphanage in the suburbs. Kian is still investigating the
connection between him and the orphanage, but there's no result yet.
So for now, I don't know what their relationship is,â Ayan calmly replied,
mentioning that Kian hadn't provided any updates yet.
