Chapter 943: Peak
However, due to a lack of concrete evidence and relying solely on
Sean's words, the police had no choice but to accept Louise's family's
proposal to drop the case against Preston.
Even the online community was powerless in this situation; it was solely
in the hands of Louise's family.
This news caused quite a stir in Hance City, but the commotion couldn't
significantly affect Preston. Sean saw this news and grew extremely
anxious, unsure of what to do, so he quickly contacted Kian.
He asked Kian, "Kian, is Preston safe now? Otherwise, why would
Louise's family suddenly withdraw the case?"
"He's bribed Louise's family, which is why they agreed to drop the case.
That's also why I initially asked you to provide any evidence you had.
But now, it's too late; the situation is already settled,â Kian responded
coldly.
Sean was disheartened because he had essentially betrayed Preston.
If Preston managed to make a comeback, wouldn't he seek revenge
against himself?
Kian didn't pay much attention to Sean, only advising him, "If you're
worried about Preston retaliating against you, consider leaving
Hancefor a while."
Kian didn't elaborate further; after all, his relationship with Sean had
always been one of mutual utility.
Recent events had clearly favored Preston, causing the atmosphere
around Ayan to grow heavy. As a result, Kian didn't dare report Sean's
situation to Ayan and could only handle it on his own.
At Simpson Group, Ayan sat in his office, his expression aloof. He
appeared lost in thought, his eyes reflecting a distant coldness. After a
while, he picked up his phone and dialed a series of numbers. When
the call was answered, he spoke, "Where are you?"
The other party seemed surprised by Ayan's question, hesitating for a
few seconds before responding in a calm voice, âIn a hotel room. Ayan,
why did you suddenly call me?"
"Wasn't it you who asked Kian to inform me, wanting to meet and
discuss something?" Ayan asked indifferently, "Or are you currently
unavailable?"
Eileen quickly denied, "Of course not. I just thought you were busy with
work and didn't want to bother you. The truth is, I don't really have
anything important. I've been idle every day, but I can't keep doing that.
I want to invest my time in work, but my agent and my former company
have completely cut ties with me. So, I'm not sure what to do now."
Eileen's reputation had been utterly tarnished before. Though she had
brought it upon herself, she had never once questioned if it was her
fault. Instead, she was fixated on how to restore her career. She still
wanted to face the public, to stand at the pinnacle of the show
business. She relished being in the spotlight, feeling like a dazzling
diamond.
After careful consideration over the past few days, she had come to
realize that, so far, only Ayan could help her. If she wanted to reclaim
her career, she would have to listen to Ayan's instructions, follow his
arrangements.
She said softly, âAyan, would you be willing to help me?"
Ayan, of course, wouldn't give a direct answer to that question. He
responded with a cold tone, "Since you're at the hotel, come
downstairs. I'll have Kian pick you up. Come to Simpson Group, and we
can talk?"
Eileen asked, "To Simpson Group? Won't that cause any trouble for
you?"
âTrouble for me? What kind of trouble could it possibly cause me?"
"Wouldn't Camille misunderstand? After all, she misunderstood last
time, so..."
âThat's something I should worry about,â Ayan casually reminded,
silencing Eileen.
Ayan immediately instructed Kian to pick up Eileen. At the same time,
he told Kian, "After picking her up, have the hotel staff open her room
and install a pinhole camera at the door. Be discreet, don't leave any
traces."
Ayan didn't explain why he was doing this, but Kian understood the
reason behind it.
Kian promptly went to the hotel to fetch Eileen. By the time he arrived,
Eileen had already come downstairs and was waiting by the entrance.
Though there were no obvious irregularities, Kian still took note. Thus,
when Eileen got into the car, he casually asked, "Miss Khan, why did
you come down so quickly? Didn't you wait for a while?"
The distance from Simpson Group to the hotel wasn't far, and Ayan had
decided last minute to have Eileen come to Simpson Group. Judging by
Eileen's attire and appearance, she couldn't have gotten ready that
quickly, even though Kian was a man, he had a rough idea of how
much time basic makeup required.
So, Eileen coming down so soon raised Kian's suspicions.
Eileen's expression remained calm, without much emotion. She didn't
seem nervous either, just offering a faint smile as she replied, "Ayan
called, and I got ready immediately. Since you came all the way here to
pick me up, I didn't want to keep you waiting any longer.â
Kian hurriedly said, "Miss Khan, you're too kind. You're Mr. Simpson's
guest, so it's only natural that I wait for you."
Eileen merely smiled gently and remained silent.
The twenty-minute car ride brought Eileen to Simpson Group.
Kian led her to the elevator and took her to Ayan's office without any
interruptions. He gestured for her to take a seat on the sofa and said,
"Miss Khan, please have a seat.â
Eileen nodded and said, "Thank you."
Inside the office, Ayan faced the floor-to-ceiling windows, gazing
outside. When he heard the sound of footsteps, he turned to look, his
gaze falling on Eileen. She returned the gaze, her voice gentle as she
asked, "Ayan, did you call me here for something specific?"
Ayan gestured toward the nearby sofa, inviting Eileen to sit as he said,
"Regarding Preston, you must have seen the news online, right?"
Eileen nodded, âYes, I know."
"Do you have anything you want to say?" he asked with indifference.
Eileen couldn't quite understand his question. There was a hint of
surprise in her eyes as her voice grew uncertain, "Ayan, I don't
understand what you mean. Are you suspecting me?"
"I haven't said anything yet. Why are you getting nervous? Has he
come to Hance to find you?" Ayan chuckled lightly. His deep eyes held
a faint smile that was somewhat overwhelming, making it hard to meet
his gaze for too long.
After he finished speaking, he continued to fix his gaze on her,
unwavering for even a second. This direct scrutiny caused Eileen's
heart to race, and she softly bit her lip, her voice light as she said,
"Ayan, I don't understand what you're talking about. How could he
possibly dare to come to Hance when the police is pursuing him? What
you're suggesting is impossible."
She tried to maintain her composure and even managed to smile, but
Ayan's reaction remained unchanged. He still looked at her the same
way, and he spoke in a low voice, "So, since you returned to Hance,
you haven't contacted him at all?"
