Chapter 257
Trapped in Love
Chapter 257 Something Was Very Off
The deputy factory manager, Caleb Depp, had sustained injuries while dispersing the workers. He
sat up in bed and greeted, âMs. Shenton, youâre here.â
Calebâs wife stood and offered her seat. âPlease, have a seat, Ms. Shenton.â
Caroline smiled and signaled her bodyguard to place the gift basket down. Then, she sat and said, â
Even though the police have already taken a statement, Iâd like to inquire about some details.â
Caleb nodded. âI understand. Our mismanagement resulted in your financial loss.â
âMoney is a minor concern. What matters is that we are all safe,â Caroline replied with a faint
smile
Caleb added, âYou care deeply about everyone, Ms. Shenton Honestly, Iâm puzzled about the fireâs
cause. It originated in the warehouse, where the fabric was stored. But we inspected it diligently
daily and noticed no fire hazards.â
Caroline nodded, âHmm. The detective mentioned the same and hasnât ruled out deliberate arson.â
Caleb emphasized, âAbsolutely! The warehouse is secured, and there are fire alarms, too. We didnât
hear any alarms when the fire started.â
Calebâs wife chimed in âYes, we were working, and there was no noise. By the time we realized,
the fire had already spread. The real silk and cotton fabric burned quickly.â
Caroline asked, âDid you notice anyone acting suspiciously? If you canât recall now, please inform
me if you remember later.â
Caleb assured, âDonât worry, Ms. Shenton. Iâll definitely let you know if something comes to mind.â
Caroline engaged in conversation with them for a while before departing.
As she was about to head downstairs, her phone rang, and she answered when she saw Paigeâs
name.
Paigeâs worried voice sounded, âCarol, I saw the news, and I didnât call you yesterday because ! knew
youâd be busy.â
Caroline sighed. âI understand.â She pressed the elevator button weakly.
Paige continued. âWhat did the detective say? Have they checked the surveillance footage?â
âThe surveillance footage didnât reveal any suspicious individuals at the time or any other time.â
âCould it be an inside job, then?â Paige wondered.

Caroline paused and frowned. âThatâs a possibility, but why would an employee do that?â
+15 BONUS
âWhat if it wasnât an employee but someone close to you? Donât forget Daniella! She just started her
company, and now yours is in trouble. It seems suspicious, right?â
âI had my suspicions, but I canât make accusations without evidence,â Caroline shared
Paige sighed. âYouâre too lenient! You canât establish a strong foothold without being ruthless!â
The elevator doors opened, and Caroline stepped inside. âIâll be cautious around those close to me.
I have to hang up now. Iâm going into the elevator.â
âOf course.â
Paige contemplated and sensed that something was amiss.
How could there be no leads on the fire incident? Had someone planted an ignition source
beforehand?
After pondering for a few minutes, Paige grew increasingly agitated and smacked the table,
inadvertently shaking her phone.
Suddenly, she thought of Alex and quickly dialed his number.
Alex answered promptly, Iâm busy. What do you need?â
Paige said urgently, âHey, Pug, when can you spare some time? I need your help to analyze
something.â
âHey, âPugâ doesnât sound too great. Can you call me something else?â
