Chapter 48
Trapped in Love
Chapter 48 Are You Leaving
After Evan hung up, his handsome face contorted with disgust.
âMr. Jordan.â Reuben, who was behind the wheel, sensed Evanâs unease and spoke up.
Evan massaged the space between his brows and said, âTell me everything you got on her.â
Reuben complied and started relaying the details. âWe spoke to Ms. Loveâs foster parents. Their
statements align with the information in Ms. Loveâs medical records. They even mentioned how
she always spoke about saving you when they brought her home all those years ago.â
Hearing that, Evanâs eyes narrowed, a mix of confirmation and lingering suspicion taking hold.
Daniella had always given him a vague weird feeling, but now, he was sure.
A sinking feeling settled in Evanâs heart. He raised his gaze to meet Reubenâs âTake me to the
hospital.â
Reuben appeared taken aback. âMr. Jordan, you have a video conference scheduled this afternoon.â
âReschedule it for tonight,â Evan coldly commanded.
Without saying another word, Reuben steered the car toward the hospital.
However, just as they arrived at the hospital entrance and Evan was about to step out, Reuben
abruptly halted him. âMr. Jordan, Ms. Love cut her wrist.â
Evan froze in his tracks, turning to face Reuben, his brow furrowed âWhere is she now?â
Reuben responded swiftly, âSheâs being rushed to the hospitalâ

Inside the emergency room, Caroline stirred from her slumber, roused by the beeping machines
surrounding her. With great effort, she pried open her heavy eyelids, casting a weak glance at her
surroundings, the curtain shielding her from the room.
The familiar scent of disinfectant filled her nostrils, evoking a bitter sense of recognition. Suddenly, the
curtain was pulled aside, and Scott approached with a thermos in hand.
Upon noticing Carolineâs wakefulness, Scott inquired tenderly, âCaroline? Are you feeling any better?â
Caroline mustered the strength to move her lips, her voice hoarse. âYeah.â
Scott placed the thermos on the bedside cabinet and took a seat beside her. âYou should have listened
to me and rested more. Your anger caused you to faint in a fit.â

Caroline cast her gaze downward, fully aware of her condition. The events leading up to her fainting
were still vivid in her memory.
She vowed to seek revenge against Daniella, their feud burning within her, but now was not the
time. Once her motherâs funeral was concluded, she would gradually gather evidence.
Composing herself, Caroline asked in a calm tone, âThe funeralâ¦â
Scott gently interrupted her. âYour friend is handling it. Donât worry. You can afford to rest for a while
longer before rushing back. And you need to eat now; otherwise, youâll be too weak for the
burial tomorrow. Furthermoreâ¦â
Scottâs voice trailed off as he lowered his gaze, concealing the emotions that welled up in his eyes. He
added softly, âYou should also consider the wellâbeing of your baby, even if you donât think of
yourself.
Caught off guard, Caroline looked at him, her expression one of astonishment. âYou⦠you know?â
Scott nodded, a deep sense of bitterness evident. âThe doctor conducted a comprehensive check-
up on you.â
Caroline pursed her lips, preparing to speak, when a familiar voice from nearby cut through the
air.
âEvan, Iâm sorry. Iâve caused you trouble.â
The moment Caroline recognized the voice, her eyes filled with pure hatred. Itâs was Daniellaâs
disgusting voice!
Soon after, Evanâs subdued and hoarse voice reached Carolineâs ears. âDonât ever do this again.â
Daniella sobbed. âEvan, do you trust me now? I didnât kill Carolineâs mother.â
Evanâs tone turned colder. âEnough. Letâs not bring that up again.â
Carolineâs eyes dulled, while Scott looked at her with concern, uncertain of what he could say.
Undeterred, Daniella continued, her voice pleading, âEvan, I donât mind if you investigate my past
with my foster parents. Itâs normal for you to doubt me. But now, do you still doubt me?â @
After a brief pause, Evan asked, âElla, what do you want from me?â
Daniella replied, âI just want to be with you. Even if you donât care for me now, I want to stay by
your side.â
Evan stated firmly, âYou were the one who saved me. Of course, Iâll fulfill that promise. Give me a
month. Iâll announce our engagement after that.â
Upon hearing Evanâs final words, Caroline slowly closed her eyes, tears streaming down her

Upon Carolineâs return, Lily approached her with concern evident in her voice. âMs. Shenton, what
happened to you? Youâve become so thin.â
Lilyâs worry resembled that of a caring mother. Suppressing her pain, Caroline forced a smile.
âLily, Iâve come back to pack my belongings
Lily appeared bewildered. âMs. Shenton, are you leaving?â
Caroline gently patted Lilyâs shoulder, offering no further explanation, and turned to ascend the
stairs.
Evan was nowhere to be seen, and Lily made no effort to stop Caroline. She swiftly packed her
belongings into two suitcases.
