Chapter 535
Trapped in Love
Chapter 535 Right to Know
âCanât you call me from a safe place?â Evan asked.
He controlled his emotions and spoke coldly. âWhat do you want from me?â
His sudden change in demeanor took Caroline aback.
âWhereâs Axel? Do you have his phone?â Caroline finally asked what was on her mind.
Evanâs eyes shifted. âWhy do you need to talk to him?â
Caroline noticed Evanâs change and frowned. âAre you hiding something from me?â
Evan snapped, âNo! Just talk!â
Caroline pleaded, âCan you let me speak with Axel?â
âNo!â Evan firmly refused.
Caroline couldnât lose her temper with Evan, knowing he had saved her and Liora from a dangerous
situation.
She said, âIf possible, please let me talk to him. I miss Axel so much.â
Evan was moved by the sight of Carolineâs teary eyes.
Axel was in protective isolation after his bone marrow transplant. Evan believed Caroline wouldnât be
as stressed if she learned the truth now.
Evan was about to say something when Carolineâs phone rang.
She answered the call and said, âWhat is it, Kenny?â
Kenny asked, âWhere are you? Did you leave the company so early?â
Caroline replied, âI wanted to spend some time with Lia. How can I assist you?â
Kenny said, âNever mind then. Iâll head home, too. The goods will be delivered to the company in the
afternoon,â
âUnderstood. Weâll inventory the goods later this afternoon. See you at home,â Caroline said.
âSure.â
After ending the call, Caroline turned her attention back to Evan. âWhat were you saying earlier?â

âNothing.â Evan replied coldly.
He decided not to tell Caroline about Axel. She was about to leave for Mount Zenya, and he wanted to
prevent her from getting distracted and putting herself in danger,
Caroline sighed. âAlright, I should get going now. Please take care of Axel.â
Caroline turned and left shortly after.
Evan walked to his car, and Reuben said, âSir, it was wise of you to stop the car earlier. Otherwise, Ms.
Shenton might have been on her way to the hospital now.â
Evan gave Reuben a stern look. âPlease refrain from speaking if you canât do it properly!â
Reuben was stunned and quickly fell silent, realizing he had sounded disrespectful toward Caroline. He
started the car and glanced at Evanâs expression in the rearview mirror.
âYou donât look well, sir, Reuben remarked.
Evan stared out the window, unable to shake the image of Carolineâs dejected expression when she
spoke about Axel.
âDo you think Iâm protecting her by not telling her about Axel? Evan asked in a low voice.
âIn my opinion, yes. However, Ms. Shenton has a right to know as well,â Reuben replied.
âWhat if I were to tell her after Axel is discharged from the hospital?â Evan asked.
âI think Ms. Shenton might be upset, given her personality,â Reuben explained.
Evan closed his eyes slowly and contemplated how he would break the news to her when she returned
from Mount Zenya. He didnât want to see her become overwhelmed by Axelâs situation.
He couldnât move on from her, and he had cared about her subtle emotions for a long time.
Caroline returned home at noon with snacks that Liora enjoyed.
