She needed to calm herself to figure out how to tell Evan about the threats she had received. At the

Caroline picked up the kids from school and carefully considered when to break the news about Axel’s

condition.

Tyler and Lora were taken aback.

Caroline’s heart ached. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

She wondered if she had neglected her children.

“Mommy, is Axel’s weight loss related to his sickness, too?” Liora asked.

Caroline’s thoughts drifted. She had assumed Axel’s weight loss was due to adjusting to Villa Rosa, but

now she felt foolish. She couldn’t blame Evan for not telling her about her child’s condition when she

hadn’t noticed it herself.

Caroline felt overwhelming guilt and couldn’t find the words to speak. After returning to Bayview Villa,

she locked herself in her room and had no appetite for dinner.

Tyler and Liora were concerned but didn’t want to disturb her.

After dinner, Liora went to her room and pulled out the phone Evan had provided to send a message.

Evan: [Yes, he will. I’ll take him to spend Mardi Gras with you. Can you check on your mom now?]

Evan smiled.

Evan: [You’re not being a spy, Lia. You’re doing it because you care about your mom.]

Liora: Will you come and see Mommy if she really isn’t feeling well?]
