Furious, Josie slammed her water bottle onto the table. âThatâs not true! Ms. Shenton isnât that kind of
person.â
âWhatâs the point if you believe her?â The male employee continued indignantly. âCan you make money
with that? You, a secretary, canât understand how much the sales department has suffered. Theyâve
labeled us as Ms. Shentonâs lackeys, but we have to respond politely. What do you even know?â
Josie glared at and rebuked him loudly, âCanât you endure it? Do you know how they slander and curse
Ms. Shenton every day?â
âI donât know, I canât take it anymore!â The male employee ran his hands through his hair. âMs. Shenton
must be guilty. I think the company will go bankrupt sooner or later.â
âIf you canât handle it, leave!â Josie exploded. âYou donât deserve Ms. Shentonâs kindness. Sheâs been
buying you nice food lately, and youâre ungrateful!â
âWhat did you say?â
âI said youâre ungrateful!â Unable to contain her emotions, Josie stepped forward and slapped the man.
âYou bitch! How dare you slap me?â The male employee was furious and attempted to slap Josie.
The other employees were frightened and rushed to intervene.
Chaos erupted in the conference room.
Caroline and Kenny heard the commotion as they passed by the conference room. They exchanged
glances and hurriedly entered the room.
Kenny opened the door and was met with a chaotic scene that angered him. âItâs lunch break. Why
didnât you rest and instead got into a fight?â
One of the employees approached Kenny and explained the situation.
Upon hearing the explanation, Kennyâs expression soured. He turned to Caroline with indignation. âYou
decide what to do with this employee.â
Caroline nodded and entered the conference room. After studying her employees for a moment, she
spoke calmly. âI understand your concerns. You might think Iâm avolding rumors and not addressing the
companyâs situation. Some of you believe the company is going bankrupt. I wonât try to convince you
otherwise. If you want to leave, go ahead. I wonât stop you.

âIâm leaving!â The male employee angrily removed his work ID and tossed it on the floor, âI wonât stay in
a company with no future!â
âIâm leaving too.â
âIâm sorry, Ms. Shenton. I wish you success.â
Caroline watched her departing employees silently. She counted as they left, stopping at 17.
Turning to the remaining 50 or so employees, Caroline asked, âIs anyone else absent?â
Josie wiped her tears. âYes, Ms. Shenton. There are about ten more.â
âGo check if they want to stay or leave.â
Sobbing, Josie nodded. âAlright.â
After Josie left, Caroline asked, âWhat about the rest of you?â
âWeâll stay with you, Ms. Shenton!â a female employee declared.
âYes, youâve always been good to us. We wonât abandon you in tough times.
âDonât worry, Ms. Shenton. Weâre committed, no matter what happens.â
With bitterness in her voice, Caroline replied, âAlright, I wonât betray your trust.â
After resolving the situation, Caroline and Kenny returned to Carolineâs office.
Kenny paced back and forth, still fuming. âIâm furious!â
Sipping on the coconut juice Kenny had brought, Caroline explained calmly, âItâs natural. Thatâs how
things
go.â
âDoesnât matter! We shouldâve never spent so much on their food!â Kenny barked.
Caroline corrected him, âDonât generalize. You should refer to the ones who left.â
âYouâre right.â Kenny settled on the sofa. âWhat a bunch of ungrateful jerks!â Caroline looked at him and
asked, âDo you share the same doubts as them?â
