“Did he agree to go? He probably doesn’t enjoy crowds, right?” Caroline asked, puzzled.

“At first, he didn’t. But he agreed after Alex told him you’d be joining!” Paige chuckled.

Caroline said, “You acted without consulting me.”

Paige replied, “Yikes, what do you mean by acting without consulting? We’re going on vacation after

Mardi Gras!”

Caroline ended the call and entered the villa.

Liora rushed over and asked with excitement, “Mommy, are you going on a holiday?”

Caroline gently touched Liora’s nose. “Yes, your godmother is pregnant and invited us to celebrate.”

“Pregnant? Is she having a baby?” Liora tilted her head in confusion.

Caroline nodded. “Yes, she’s carrying a baby in her womb. You’re going to be a big sister, Lia!”

“Really? I’m going to be a big sister?” Liora jumped up in excitement.

“Yes. I’m visiting the hospital tomorrow.” Caroline led Liora to the living room, holding her hand.

Tyler turned and asked, “Are you going to see the doctor about Axel?”

Caroline nodded. ‘Evan told me Axel will be discharged before Mardi Gras, so I want to confirm the

time. We can’t leave Axel alone if we’re going on a trip.”

Tyler got up and said, “Mommy, can I come with you?”

“Me too, Mommy!” Liora chimed in.

Caroline smiled. “Sure, we’ll go together.”

The next day, Caroline took the children to the hospital.

Caroline heard Evan’s voice as she arrived at the doctor’s office.

“How is Axel?”

Richie replied, “Mr. Jordan, your son will be released from protective isolation later. His condition ist

“Thank you,” Caroline said as she took the tissue and wiped her tears away.

Evan soon walked out of the office and found Caroline standing at the door with their children.

He was momentarily stunned before saying. “Axel is doing quite well. He’ll be released soon.” 1

“I heard that. Axel is working hard to get well!” Caroline said, smiling with tears of joy.

Evan looked at Caroline in amazement. It had been a long time since he had seen her so joyful. He

regretted not telling her about Axel’s condition sooner.

Half an hour later, Axel was wheeled out of protective isolation.

He wore a cap and mask, with a pale face and dimmed gaze.

“Axel!” Liora called out in excitement.

Axel’s body tensed briefly before he raised his head to see Caroline, Evan, Tyler, and Liora at the door.

“Daddy… Mommy… Ty… Lia…”

Caroline instantly shed tears upon hearing Axel’s hoarse voice. “Axel…”

Caroline knelt down, sobbing. She wanted to touch Axel’s emaciated face but was concerned that her

hands weren’t clean.

“You can touch him,” the nurse reminded her.

Caroline nodded. “Thank you.”

She placed her hand on Axel’s hand.

“Axel, I’m sorry I’m late,” Caroline said, tears in her eyes as she held Axel’s cold hand.




